How horrible war really is?

What is War?

It could be the soldier's helmet, his uniform, cold muddy and torn

The battlefield ,trench is all reality, another black deadly morn

It could be artillery sounds and thick smoke covering the sky

An enemy's sneak attack is a young man's horrible cry

A blood stained prayer book had been found by a soldier's side

He hoped this would soon end, let peace be the only guide

War could be the wretched sight, smell of dead bodies so near

Their tired, scared brothers, "Oh, this is hell, no man should be here!"

Yes, it's these reminders and a poppy to show so much more

Many families, a lasting sorrow for the soldier isn't there at the door

War is killing, War is death, War should never be

In honour of Remembrance Day, November 11, 2009
