I recommend you listen to "Like Toy Soilders" while reading thia, because it's where I got my inspiration from.

Step by step, heart to heart, left right left,
We all fall down like toy soldiers.
Bit by bit, torn apart, we never win.
But the battle wages on for toy soldiers...

William.

The voices of excited soilders echoed through the bowels of the ship. The butterflies in my stomach started doing backflips. We were so close, so close, to the island. We were the last batch of soilders sent out, we were the final push that the soilders needed to win this war, we were the key to glory. I smiled to myself. Glory. I made my way to the deck of the ship and leaned over the edge to wash the waves hit the bow of the ship. A young man came and joined me. He smiled over at me.

"You look very young, how old are you?"

"I'm sixteen, sir." He nodded at me.

"Ever been to war, boy?"

"Never, sir."

"I have - believe me, it isn't like what the motherland told you. They promise glory, money, wealth. They lie." The soilder laid his hand on my shoulder. "I feel sorry for you, son."

A slight tingle of fear ran down my spine but I ignored it. The soilder walked away shaking his head in dispair. I could see the island clearly now and I called back to my fellow mates, the ship was starting to arrive! Glory, here we come! The ship speeded along under the front of the ship banged against the sand.

Before me and my mates was bloodied water, dead soilders lay on the sand. Fear controlled me as my mates jumped over the edge of the ship, ready to throw themselves in battle. I jumped over the edge and the bullet went through my heart before I could hit the sand.

Jason.

I sat laid down in the grass, my eyes almost closed. I'd been shot in the leg and I was slowly bleeding out, I was in the middle of an open field. You're stupid, Jason. Who runs head first into a war zone? Trying to play hero? I groaned as the pain in my leg flared up again. I couldn't feel the majority of my leg, I knew it was either I die or lose the leg. But then again, care here was so poor that I'd probably die anyway. I looked over at the slowly setting sun and watched it lower as I could feel the life slowly escape from me. The sun disappeared and I closed my eyes peacefully. This was okay, I couldn't feel the pain anymore. Besides, I could see my little brother William now if I died. Just as I gave up, I felt hands grab me under my shoulders and I snapped my eyes open.

My buddy Romi grinned down at me. "We're saving you, Jace," I laughed merrily.

"Romi, my man, thank you! Thank you!" I started to cry tears of relief.

"Let's do this, let's get you back home." I weeped tears of pure joy at his words.

I'm going home.

...

Romi.

I sat in on the bunk bed of my cabin, blood on my hands. Jason is dead. He'd died in the hospital room as he wept, he kept saying; "I'm going home, I'm going home." to himself. The grief consumed me, he was my best mate. I met my best mate at war and now he's been ripped from me. Gods, how cruel this world can be. They sent us young men out of here so the rich men could stay rich. Grief was all I could feel, I opened my door and stormed out into the rain of bullets and let the war take me away to join my best mate.

We all fall down like toy soldiers.
Bit by bit, torn apart, we never win.
But the battle wages on for toy soldiers
