Chapter 8

WEDNESDAY

JENA HASN'T SEEN OR HEARD FROM CHARLES

IT'S TWO O'CLOCK

JENA IS AT THE STREAM CLEANING LAUNDRY ON THE WASHBOARD

JENA PUTS THE CLEAN LAUNDRY INTO THE BASKET AND CARRIES IT BACK TO THE HOUSE

JENA THEN HANGS THE CLOTHES ON THE LINE

TEN MINUTES LATER

JENA THEN GOES INTO THE HOUSE

"Are you done? " asked Ma. "Yes. " replied Jena. "Good, now go water the crops. " said Ma. "All right. " said Jena.

JENA GOES BACK OUTSIDE AND GOES TO THE WELL TO FILL UP THE BUCKETS WITH WATER

JENA FILLS UP AND WALKS TO THE CORN AND STARTS WATERING

TEN MINUTES LATER

CHARLES COMES RIDING UP

"Jena! " yells Charles. "Charles! " yells Jena. "What are you doing? " asked Charles. " What does it look like I'm watering the crops. " replied Jena. " I know but you shouldn't be doing all this lifting. " said Charles. " Really? " asked Jena. " This is a man's job, let me help you. " said Charles. " I'm sorry but it's part of my chores. " said Jena. " Not while I'm here. " said Charles. "All right. " said Jena.

CHARLES GETS OFF HIS HORSE AND THEN TAKES THE BUCKETS FROM JENA AND FILLS THEM UP WITH WATER

CHARLES WATERS THE CROPS FOR JENA

THIRTY MINUTES LATER

CHARLES IS FINISHED

"Thank you, Charles. " said Jena. "You're welcome, how about going for a ride? " asked Charles. " I don't think so. " said Jena. "How come? " asked Charles. "Well my parents really want me to stay close to home. " said Jena. "You're be with me. " said Charles. " I know but it's not safe. " said Jena. "Well than I guess we're just have to talk here. " said Charles. "Thank you. " said Jena. "Let's go in the stable. " said Charles. "All right. " said Jena.

CHARLES AND JENA GO INTO THE STABLE

"Jena, what are you doing Saturday? " asked Charles. "Nothing. " said Jena. "Let's go for a ride then. " said Charles. "All right that would be great. " said Jena. "Good. " said Charles.

CHARLES KISSES JENA

JENA KISSES CHARLES BACK

FIVE MINUTES LATER

"Well I'll see you on Saturday. " said Charles. "Great, well bye. " said Jena. "Bye. " said Charles.

CHARLES LEAVES THE STABLE AND GETS ON HIS HORSE AND RIDES OFF

JENA GOES INTO THE HOUSE

"Jena, are you done watering the crops? " asked Ma. "Yes. " replied Jena. "Good, now you can go clean the stable. " said Ma. "Yes, Ma. " said Jena.

JENA GOES OUT OF THE HOUSE AND WALKS TO THE STABLE

JENA GETS THE SHOVEL AND STARTS TO GET TO WORK

TWO HOURS LATER

JENA GETS DONE AND GOES BACK INSIDE THE HOUSE

"Jena, your done? " asked Ma. "Yes. " replied Jena. " Good, now go take a bath you

stink. " said Ma. "All right. " said Jena.

JENA GOES BACK OUT TO THE STABLE

MA BRINGS THE HOT WATER OUT

TEN MINUTES LATER

JENA TAKES HER BATH AND THEN GETS OUT AND GETS DRESSED

JENA THEN GOES BACK IN THE HOUSE

"Jena, sit down we're having supper. " said Ma.

JENA SITS DOWN AND JOINS THEM FOR SUPPER

LATER THAT NIGHT

IT IS EIGHT O'CLOCK JENA TURNS IN FOR THE NIGHT

Chapter 9

TWO DAYS PASS IT IS FRIDAY

IT'S THREE O'CLOCK

JENA IS IN THE STABLE

JENA HEARS SOMETHING OUTSIDE

JENA GOES OUT OF THE BARN AND LOOKS AROUND

JENA THEN SEE'S AN INDIAN THAT HAS LONG BLACK HAIR, WITH A BLACK FEATHER IN HIS HEADBAND, MUSCULAR BUILD, A MARKING ON HIS CHEST A BIRD OF SOME SORT, AND DARK BLACK EYES.

JENA RUNS AND GOES TOWARDS THE HOUSE

JENA GOES INSIDE THE HOUSE

"Jena! " yells Pa. " Huh! " yells Jena. " What is it? " asked Pa. " Indian he was out by the stable." said Jena. " What, stay here! " yells Pa.

PA GRABS HIS GUN AND RUNS OUT TO THE STABLE

PA DOESN'T SEE ANY SIGN OF THE INDIAN

PA GOES BACK INSIDE THE HOUSE

"Jena, are you sure, you saw an Indian? " asked Pa. " Yes, I saw him, he had long black hair, with a black feather in a headband and a bird of some kind on his chest. " replied Jena. "All right, just stay in the house. " said Pa. " I will. " said Jena. "Good. " said Pa. " Jena, will you play cards with me? " asked Max. "Yes, Max, let's go upstairs. " said Jena. "Right. " said Max.

JENA AND MAX GO UPSTAIRS

TWO HOURS PASS

"Jena, Max supper is ready! " yells Ma. "All right be down in a minute! " yells Jena. "Good. " said Ma.

MA, PA, MAX AND JENA SIT DOWN AND HAVE SUPPER

ONE HOUR LATER

JENA TURNS IN FOR THE NIGHT

Chapter 10

NEXT DAY IT'S SATURDAY

PA GOES OUT AND COLLECTS THE EGGS TO HAVE FOR BREAKFAST

ONE HOUR LATER

THEY ALL SIT DOWN AND HAVE BREAKFAST

TWENTY MINUTES LATER

"Jena, let's do something. " said Max. "What would you like to do? " asked Jena. "Marbles. " said Max. "All right. " said Jena. "Great. " said Max.

JENA AND MAX PLAY MARBLES FOR AWHILE

ONE HOUR LATER

"Jena! " yells Pa. " Yes, Pa! " yells Jena. "Your Ma and I are going into town, you two stay here and stay out of sight. " said Pa. "All right. " said Jena. "Good, and stay away from the windows." said Pa. " Yes, sir. " said Jena.

PA AND MA LEAVE

TWENTY MINUTES LATER

MAX FALLS ASLEEP

JENA GOES DOWNSTAIRS AND STARTS MAKING LUNCH

TWO HOURS LATER

JENA HAS LUNCH READY WHEN MA AND PA ARRIVE BACK AT THE HOUSE

"Wow, Jena this looks great. " said Ma. "Thanks. " said Jena. " Where is Max? " asked Pa. " He fell asleep about two hours ago. " said Jena. "Good. " said Ma. "I'll go wake him up so he can eat with us. " said Jena. "That won't be necessary, I'm up. " said Max. "Good, come down and eat. " said Ma. "Great. " said Max.

MA, PA, JENA, AND MAX SIT DOWN AND EAT

IT'S ONE O'CLOCK

JENA SEE'S SOMEONE RIDING UP

"Charles, is here. " said Jena. "Good. " said Ma. "We're going riding is that all right, Pa? " asked Jena. "That will be fine. " said Pa. " Thanks. " said Jena.

JENA GOES OUTSIDE

"Hi, Jena. " said Charles. "Hi, Charles. " said Jena. "So are you ready to go for a ride? " asked Charles. "Yes, let's go. " said Jena.

JENA AND CHARLES GO TO THE STABLE AND GET SUNSHINE OUT

JENA GETS ON SUNSHINE AND CHARLES GETS ON HIS HORSE

THEY RIDE AND RIDE

THIRTY MINUTES LATER

CHARLES STOPS HIS HORSE

JENA STOPS BEHIND HIM

"Charles, what's wrong. " asked Jena. "Indians. " replied Charles. "They are coming this way. " exclaims Jena. "Head for the trees now! " yells Charles.

JENA AND CHARLES RIDE THE HORSES INTO THE TREES TO GET COVER FROM THE INDIANS

THE INDIANS PASS THE TREES AND RIDE AWAY

JENA AND CHARLES START TO RIDE BACK TO JENA'S HOUSE

THEY ARRIVE BACK AT JENA'S HOUSE

" Bye, Jena I need to go round up the town's people and let them know that Indians are among us. " said Charles. "All right, be safe Charles. " said Jena. "You too, bye. " said Charles. "Bye. " said Jena.

CHARLES RIDES OFF

JENA GOES INSIDE THE STABLE TO TAKE SUNSHINE BACK TO HER STALL

PA COMES OUT TO SEE WHAT'S GOING ON

PA GOES INSIDE THE STABLE

"Jena, what's going on? " asked Pa. " When Charles and I we're coming back we saw Indians, we hid near the trees. " said Jena. "I'll finish here, get inside the house. " demanded Pa. " Yes, sir. " said Jena.

JENA GOES INSIDE THE HOUSE AND TELLS MA AND MAX ABOUT THE INDIANS

"Is your Pa, in the stable? " asked Ma. "Yes. "replied Jena. "All right, help me with dinner. " said Ma. "Yes, Ma. " said Jena.

PA COMES BACK INSIDE THE HOUSE

"What are we going to do? " asked Ma. "Don't worry, they haven't been here yet. " said Pa. "True but what if they do? " asked Ma. "I got two guns. " said Pa. " Funny like that's going to stop them. " said Ma. "We could give them tobacco and coffee. " said Jena. "Yes, try and maybe trade or be friendly to them. " said Pa. " That's what God would want us to do first. " replied Jena. "Jena's right listen to her. " said Ma. "All right we do that first. " said Pa. " Good. " said Ma. "Whatever happens we will get through it and we need to pray about it. " said Pa. "Let's get dinner going, Jena. " said Ma.

IT'S FOUR O'CLOCK IN THE AFTERNOON

FIVE INDIANS RIDE UP TO THE HOUSE

"Jena and Max into the loft now! " yells Pa. " Yes, Pa come on Max. " demanded Jena. "No, I want to see the Indians! " yelled Max. "Go now, Max! " yelled Pa.

JENA AND MAX GO UP TO THE LOFT AND THEY HIDE BEHIND THE BED

DOWNSTAIRS

PA OPENS THE DOOR

TWO INDIANS APPRAOCH PA

PA HANDS THEM THE COFFEE AND TOBACCO

THE INDIANS TURN AROUND AND LEAVE

JENA LOOKS OUT THE WINDOW FROM THE LOFT

ONE INDIAN LOOKS RIGHT AT HER

JENA MOVES AWAY FROM THE WINDOW

JENA AND MAX COME DOWN FROM THE LOFT

"That was smart thinking, Jena about the tobacco and coffee. " replies Pa. " They maybe, back for more. " said Jena. "What? " asks Ma. " When they run out of course. " said Jena. "Then we must have some on hand. " said Pa.

IT'S SIX O'CLOCK AT NIGHT

THEY ALL SIT DOWN AND HAVE DINNER

AFTER DINNER

PA PLAYS SOME VIOLIN (FIDDLE)

JENA, MAX, AND MA DANCE

ANOTHER HOUR GOES BY

JENA AND MAX TURN IN FOR THE NIGHT
