The spurs of Kennedy Phillips
It was a golden summers day when the bell struck twelve in the old town when yet again another gun fight at high noon everybody was looking round but there was only one man stood there waiting for the draw lucky Joe the meanest cowboy in the west he observed the scene to find no one about but one man steps forward Kennedy Phillips the worst shooter in the old town all the town folk burst into raptures of laughter Kennedy shouts out "draw at ten past twelve." the crowd stand frozen in silence everyone around shocked in amazement the clock struck ten past twelve. Bang! The bullet echo's off the nearby hills stood there with his gun raised smoke pouring out of the barrel Kennedy Phillips everyone is speechless Kennedy utters the words "He won't be back in a hurry" the crowd slowly get back to their jobs and stroll back into the saloon a lady approaches Kennedy she nervously says "that was amazing how did you do that" Kennedy replies "he was never going to kill me". " Why" she stutters "I took the bullet's out of his six shooter in the saloon". You sly dog you, would you like to take me for a drink". "Sorry my dear I'm saddling up". "Can I come with you please Kennedy". The deserts not a place for a lady". "Ok then ride without me I fare you well sir" Kennedy heads to the stables to pick up his horse. he thinks to himself why don't I become a bounty hunter Hmm good idea ill head to the sheriff's office in the new town. He puts his saddle on his horse ties his belongings from his back and sets off to the new town. Kennedy rides through gulch canyon but before long needs to set up camp as the sun is down and visibility is poor so he gets down from his horse sets up camp underneath a ridge in some rocks not before long he runs out of fire wood and takes a short trip to some bushes near the ridge "you lost partner" he hears a voice from behind some rocks "who goes there friend or foe". "If you were foe you'd be dead already". "Come out where I can see you". Out from behind a rock appears a rough edgy looking bloke with a scar underneath his right eye. "hey I am Keith the scar a bandit round these parts". "I'm Kennedy Phillips what do you want". "Just looking for somebody to rob this train with me". Here's me just left old town to go to be a bounty hunter and I'm getting asked to rob a train "How much am I looking at" obviously the bounty hunting can wait. "I'd say about two million dollars so you in". sounds too good to be true "What's the catch Keith the scar". There's got to be a catch "no catch me you and Eighteen other men you're looking at one hundred thousand dollars". "When's this going down". "Tomorrow ten past twelve" why does it always have to be ten past twelve. He vanishes just like he wasn't there like the rock whispering to me. Wait am I going crazy no there was a man there I'm robbing a train tomorrow couldn't be any better by now I thought I would get some rest for the big day ahead of me. I awoke nervously my leg twinges it must be the shock of mw robbing that train. I reached into my pocket for my pocket watch the clock says twelve on the dot no time for some beans with grits, I get up, go give my horse some water good boy lanolin I named the horse after sheep's wool my favourite jacket is made out of it anyway. Now I wait to see if this is true or if this Keith the scar was pulling my leg. I look down at my pocket watch twelve twenty I decide to pack up then saddle my horse after what I thought seemed like five minutes was like a second surrounded by nineteen men one being Keith the scar he shouts "Let's go the train was late out of the new town". "I jump on and say yahoo lets go" without introducing me to the other men well there's not much point only a handful will survive the train robbery, for some reason now I am an expert on train robberies, alas onwards and upwards through valleys and down peaks up inclines we finally get to the point where Keith says stop we can ambush the train from here. About seven men take to the more hilly terrain to get an overhead view while the rest were waiting me and Keith set the dynamite in the next tunnel Keith whispers "I hope this works". Now I'm thinking am I hanging round with the worst bandit in the west just my luck. We go behind a set of boulders near the tunnel the guys up on the hills are waiting to give the signal to Keith who has the detonator. Hours go by still no train then out of nowhere I can hear the track rattling the train must be near. A guy on the hill gives the signal a few seconds go by boom the explosion tips the train onto its side slowly grinding to a holt smoke is everywhere we patiently wait for the dust to settle. Keith sounds out a load roar "Let's get it boys" everyone charges to the wreckage. Out of nowhere five men come out of the train with shot guns blasting everyone away a gunfight ensues. me and Keith sneak up behind the gunmen and start shooting we take three of them out two to the back of the head one through the heart. "there must only be eight of are men left the two men take refuse in the overturned train "What's your next bright idea Keith". "Don't worry I've got more dynamite we will smoke them out". Keith lights the fuse and chucks it in the cabin boom Keith pauses for a minute then shouts to his men "Let's get this money boy's". All the men rush to the cabin to start unloading the money. Keith bellows is it all there boy's" one of his assailants shout's back "There's more than two million here boss". "How much Cletus" "About ten million" Cletus shoots is gun in the air, now I know one of the bandits. I say to Keith "How much each now" Keith shouts to Cletus "how many men left". "Bout three boss" Cletus shoots the rest of the men, climbs out of the overturned cabin, brings the money over to Keith. "Who's this stranger boss". "He is with us". "You got a name partner". Names Kennedy Phillips. "I'm Cletus the quick draw" Keith decides we need to move, I grab lanolin and we all gallop away with the loot. We get near a small camp in the middle of trudge swamp, I've never been here before. Keith say's "do you really stay here" Cletus replies "We could go to the new town get some more ammo and maybe a few whisky's". "We could not wonder into town flashing cash about" says Keith. "How about I go take one of your horses and stock up on whisky, ammo, and whatever else we need". "Clever guy you got here boss" Cletus mutters. Keith pulls his shotgun out and blows Cletus away he keeps shooting till there is no ammo left in the gun. "More money for us what do you think Kennedy". "Yes Keith as long as you don't shoot me ". This guy is mentally unstable I would shoot him but what am I going to do with ten million dollars. How can I even spend five million dollars, "Keith the scar this is great but how are we going to spend this money". "We can live for a long time on this". "Yeah but a house is about ten thousand dollars". "We need to stash it somewhere for safe keeping". "I using mine to gamble, drink, and spend time with woman". "I think we must go our separate ways never to speak of this to nobody". "True Kennedy I'll see you around". Keith clambers onto his horse and leaves me with the dead body of Cletus and five million dollars not a bad days work I must say. I put fifty grand in Cletus jacket I know I won't be able to spend it all but neither will he. I jump onto lanolin my trusty steed I head towards the new town hoping to be able to buy someone's house for about twenty grand. I near the new town only having been once before when I was younger I get down off lanolin, I give him a stroke on the neck, walking into the huge industrial town I tie up lanolin next to the barbers I was just thinking I need a trim and a shave, I enter in to this large polished barbers shop there's only one customer in, she has soft brown hair and speaks with a regal tongue I wonder over and ask her "Hello I am Kennedy Phillips, what might your name be" . "I am Beatrix the mayor's wife". "Pleased to meet you I'm new in town, I wonder if you if there was property for sale". "Yes there is the Smith's old house". "How much would they want". Talk to my husband Barry the mayor of new town". "Where can I find him". "In the big house at the top of the street". "Thank you my dear fair well". I turn around thinking I don't need to get my hair cut as I don't think the barber can change a hundred dollar bill. I exit the barber shop to head up to the big house. Not many people round the new town as the sun melts into the sky like an iron brand into ice cold water. I ponder up with my back pack on filled with the money. But before that I see a shop that sells attire I decide to take a look inside to get some new spurs and some suede trousers. I walk into a bright pristine shop full of wonderful array of denim, suede and leather attire. I slowly wonder over to the shop owner and ask him. "Can I get some suede trousers, some cowboy boots with golden spurs, a suede hat with gold encrusted in it. "if you want that stuff it's going to cost you about two thousand dollars". "Here's four thousand I need it now though". "Coming right up sir". I looked around the store for some other bits and pieces I found a golden encrusted holster for my six shooter I shouted to the clerk "Can I take this as well" the clerk ran round from the back with bag in tow and explained. "Of course you can here's the rest of your stuff" "Is there anywhere I can try this on" "Yes come through to the back" "What's with all the money if you don't mind me asking" what should I tell him I just found this money or tell him the truth I blew up a train with Keith and got away with the loot and I am a bandit, no "I'm a business man I invest on company's but mainly saloon". "There must be a lot of money in it". "there is I've come here to buy a house". You'll be after the old smith house" said exaggeratedly "What do you mean by that". "Well that's where Keith the scar murdered his family". So we were both running away from murder but mine was of an outlaw. "Is that why he has a scar on his face". "Yes supposedly he shot all of his family, his wife was left and she cut his face with a knife, after she cut him he cut her up into little bits". I've just trusted a guy who cut up his family. "Was he an evil man". "No he just was a bit crazy, there is still a bounty on his head one hundred thousand dollars". "Seriously how long has he been on the run". "About a week if that". I had the chance to shoot him if only I could have took him out. "Well shop keep I am ready to go talk to the mayor". "Thanks for your business". I pondered out of the shop, up to the big house where the mayor hopefully was. I knocked on the huge brown door with handles you could sleep on a small man with very elegant clothes.
