"The Pom Pom Diaries" is the first book in a proposed series. It is set in the present day and is aimed at a teen audience.
Alyssa McCann is a typical teen-ager who is looking forward to starting high school and has a guaranteed spot on the cheer leading squad. Cheer leading is something very important to her as her mother had been a professional cheerleader. Since her mother's death a few years ago, Alyssa has pushed herself very hard to emulate her mother and become a cheer leader as well.
Her father loses his job and they move across the country. She feels devastated about leaving the only home she has ever known, all of her friends and of course this means she will be losing her spot on the cheer leading squad. This is a coming of age series dealing with many of the issues teens face today including drinking and teen-aged pregnancy, first loves and first break ups.
