In the American culture you are an adult at age eighteen. This means that you are responsible for your own legal and social affairs at that age. The decisions and choices you make from the age eighteen will affect the outcomes of your future.
All actions have consequences. Wrong actions or wrong decisions often have negative consequences. Right actions and good decisions often have positive results. Make the right choices now and have a greater probability for positive consequences.
Whether or not you prepare for your adulthood depends entirely on you. Parents and teachers can be your guide but ONLY YOU can create your future and live by your action and consequences.
Going into your future is not a choice. It, the future, will come to you ready or not. Those who are prepared usually have a more desirable future than those who do not prepare. Preparing for your future or not is up to you. Nobody can do it for you. To prepare is a choice. Making the right choices, planning for the future is a developed skill. It is easy to learn this skill but few people do it. Most people do not plan well for the future because they don’t understand its value.
LIFE DECISION (The Four Parts of Life)
There are four parts of life categories that adults must deal with everyday whether they choose to or not.
Everything you do or is done to you falls into one of these four categories. Consider how your choices and actions will impact these four parts of your life. Every life decision you make will have an impact on 1, 2, 3, or all 4 parts of your life. Know the impact before you choose: this is wisdom.
Your mission on becoming an adult, your journey, is to master these four parts of life to the best of your ability. Mastering these four parts of life is a task that only ends at death. Otherwise you must continually be faced on a daily basis with these four parts of life.
PART ONE: FINANCIAL
- Net Worth
Income: How will you bring money and resources into your possession?
Expenses: How will you limit your expenses so it’s not to exceed your income?
Net Worth: How will you have abundance and positive net worth?
Independence: How will you positive yourself in the future financially so that you do not need to rely upon others to care for you financially?
Values: How will you choose what is important to you in financial life?
PART TWO: HEALTH (PHYSICAL & MENTAL)
Food/Drink: What will you consume and put into your body?
Sleep/Rest: 1/3 of your life is spent in sleep; how will you plan to make sure your body gets the sleep and rest it needs?
Exercise/Strength: Your body requires exercise to function properly. It is essential to exercise as much as eat, drink and sleep.
Habits: What daily physical and mental actions will you do to respect your body/mind?
Prevention: Make health choice based on future consequences.
PART THREE: RELATIONSHIP
- Love ones
Yourself: “Know thy self”. Decide on your values, beliefs, strengths, and weakness, what makes you happy, strong and worthy.
Love Ones: What you must do for them, what responsibilities do you have to respect and care for them?
Friends: Few but strong bonding. People who you can help and they help you.
Community: You do not live alone in this world. How will you treat strangers?
Natural/Spirit: What relationship will you have with the earth? The Un-known?
PART FOUR: KNOWLEDGE
- Books; written pages
- Experience: you and others
- Abstract; intuition
Books; Written pages: The most convenient way to learn because it is written down; includes internet.
Experience: you and others: First hand or through others second hand.
Abstract; Intuition: Your intuition derived from books, written pages, experience, and thinking.
Practical: How to do things in life; fix things; make things, create things.
Unknowable: Most of the facts of life are unknowable. How will you penetrate the unknown in a positive way?
When you make life choice and decisions, the strategy for happiness is that your actions do not conflict with your values. Know what you value by thinking about it. Experiment with different values to better understand them. Your intuition is an excellent tool to learn and know what you value. Trust your intuition and believe your feelings.
Values change with time as we are all change with time. Your values will be added and subtractive as years go on. Be prepared to change your values when they no longer work for you. Some values though, will never change and be with you forever.
The best thinking tool for planning your future is the written word. As you think and imagine your future, what you want out of life, what you want to avoid in life, what you value and what you believe; write it down. This way, by seeing what you write you will know better who you are, and what you think. Write down your plans. Make preparations months and years in advance. Create goals and write them down so you can measure your achievements and learn how to improve and get the results you want. Keep a journal, log your life, and keep track of your journey.
Good Luck Everyone!
