Death, though not always liked, just happens. To a seemingly perfect girl it's unreal. Shannon Lumley hardly got out of her aunts funeral before her teary eyed mother announced she would be attending a boarding school. It wouldn't be so bad except the fact it is far from her California home. She couldn't be more upset about leaving her perfect beach life, but Pichao has its bright sides. Un ordinary and handsome Flinn, for one. But right when things are heating up between them, a new world is exposed to Shannon and her friends. Drugs were never an issue with her. She knew everything would be taken away from her if she did them, so why attempt? But with no parents around, Shannon finds herself going off the deep end to impress these new friends.
~Chapter 1 sneak peek~
"Don't forget the thong."
I looked up from my duffel to glare at Taren. Even if she was my best friend, her interest in my being laid were not the best. Sooner the better, she stressed.
"Well, maybe Pichao has some spicy men. I mean, you're seventeen and you've only had sex once, Shannon." Taren went on, examining her nails. Of course she thought me only having sex once was a major set back. I didn't even want to know what she thought was a good number. She was a whore, it was just a fact.
As I stuffed random clothes in the plain grey duffel, I almost missed the thong that had snuck into it. Sighing, I tucked it away at the very bottom. I would throw it away in the airport bathroom. Taren couldn't pack it away again there.
I pulled my board straight blonde hair away from my face and sat down next to Taren. She seemed to notice my mood change because she gave me a sad smile. "Oh, babe, it'll be fine. You can call me anytime and I'll come visit for all your breaks." Taren wrapped her thin arms around my shoulders and patted my hair. Hugs weren't really a big thing for her. She pulled away and grabbed my shoulders, giving them a shake. "Give 'em hell." I smiled at her pep talk and grabbed my duffel, zipping it up.
After the plane flew away from the Basket airport, it would be three months before I could see Taren or my parents again. Three months where I would have to fit it again. I was scared, for once. No longer would I be on top of the ladder.
"Shannon, sweetie? The taxi is here." My made up mother was standing in the doorway, her smile all white teeth. I looked at Taren and gave her another hug. I looked at my mother and brushed passed her. She didn't have to send me to this boarding school, it was her decision that would make me start all over. The taxi came in sight through the large glass windows. I swallowed back the lump in my throat and opened the door.
Shaun Lumley (Shannon's little brother was just too cute not to put up)
