Simply Kate.....

Martha Jane and Laura ran.
They ran for everything they were worth.
"We just simply have to make it before anything happens. I will never forgive myself if something
happens to Kate now."
They reached the park in about fifteen minutes. Completely out of breath and panting like puppies
Martha Jane and Laura walked through the park.
Martha Jane stopped to listen.
She heard voices.
"They're over there at the south end of the creek. I can hear Norton's voice!"
Martha Jane and Laura tip toed to the south end of the creek. They hid behind the biggest
tree they could find and they listened.
They could hear Norton's voice above the chanting. Martha Jane peeked around the tree. They were
all covered in cloaks and white hoods just as if they were from an old movie based around the Klu
Klux Klan days. Martha Jane shivered.
They were chanting "Creek the Geek! Creek the Geak!"
Norton, seeming to be the leader of the gang.  He lifted the wiggling body up to the sky. Martha
Jane couldn't tell who the wiggling body was but Norton was saying they were willing to sacrifice the
body for the love of their God and for the highest ranking of popularity in Pennsola High School.
(and around the state).
Martha Jane gasped. Laura put her hand over her mouth.
"I want to throw up," Laura said panic sticken.
"Shhh....Listen!" Martha tapped her shoulder.
She could hear the cries of the poor tied up geek. It wasn't a female cry. It sounded more like a
male.
"Phew! It isn't Kate! That's good news!"
"What good news?" Laura whispered almost in sheer panic,"They're going to kill that kid!"
Norton lowered the kid to the ground preparing to tie the dunking rope around him. The chanting
got louder. They were now dancing around a fire they made. It all looked ridiculous to Martha Jane
yet, horrifying as well.
Martha Jane shuddered.
It was as if she had been watching a bad horror story on channel twelve or something. They took
the body to the diving board in which they built and began to lower him into the water. His
screams were getting louder and louder. To make matters even worse he looked like he wet his pants.
Can't blame him for that, Martha Jane concluded. She may have done the same thing if tables were
turned.
All of a sudden Kate flew in from out of nowhere "Eric Fabian Norton put him down!"
Martha Jane was sure there was a look of shock and surprise on Norton's face.
"Perfect, this is just perfect!" Eric plopped the body down on the ground and the young geek
wailed in pain.
"Nothing is perfect, Eric! Come on, Man! When are you guys going to stop this crap!?! Being the
most popular kid in school is not the most important thing in the world. Being a good friend is
important. Or having good grades is important but being ranked most popular is a bunch of crap.
See, Eric, you and your mouthy friends have totally ruined any friendship that I ever had with
Martha Jane. You spread ugly rumors around stating that the only reason I got to be friends with
her is because I had to pick the next geek. Now she's not even talking to me and it's all yours
and your gang's fault."
"Oh you poor little thing! Let me cry big rivers for you and your girlfriend! You just don't
understand this do you,dumb little Kate? You've traded places now from the most popular girl in
school to the school's biggest geek! It would be the ultimate sacrifice for our Gods. "
The "Creek the Geek" chant kept getting louder and louder.
Eric started to approach Kate. Kate didn't dare move. She refused to. She stood her ground and
looked at Norton square in the eyes. This was a big step for Kate to stand up to those people.
Martha Jane just had to let her do it.
Norton charged at her and the force threw her to the ground.
Kate screamed and ripped the hood clean off Norton's head. She scratched his face and pulled his
hair. He moaned in pain.
He tried to bite Kate and slapped her across the face.
Martha Jane got mad and jumped out from behind the big tree before Laura could stop her.
"Hey Norton, why don't you leave her alone?"
The look on Norton's face was priceless. He was shocked.
"Would the real geek please stand up?" He said pleased as punch.
Laura stood out from behind the tree.
