Ben and Rachel made their way to Ben's apartment. It wasn't a very far walk away, and Rachel was surprised to realise that they were, in fact, neighbours.
"Here, come in. Sorry it's a bit messy. I've just moved in this afternoon." Ben apologised.
"It's okay." Rachel smiled. "Can I take a seat?"
"Oh, sure, sure! Make yourself at home!" Ben was still slightly embarrassed at the state of his apartment. It was small, with only a sofa, a television set and a double bed, all in the same room. Connected to itwas a kitchen which led to the bathroom, and that was it. Only one window behind the sofa provided light, and unfurnished, it looked rather dinghy.
Rachel sat down on the sofa, which was still wrapped in the plastic it came in. Almost all the furniture was brand new, provided by the football club. It was spartan, but enough for a bachelor like Ben.
"Do you want anything to drink?" Ben offered, "I have, er....champagne."
The champagne was a welcome gift from the football club, which came as a surprise to Ben. He hadn't expected that, but it was nice anyway. Besides, there was nothing else to drink.
"Ooh, champagne. Cool. Okay!" Rachel chirped.
Ben managed to find two glasses, and poured the bubbly drink.
"Here."he offereda glass to Rachel, and sat down beside her on the couch.
"So," Rachel started, "You're from Singapore?"
"Yeah." he replied.
"What's Singapore like?" Rachel was curious to find out.
"Erm, well," Ben started to explain, "It's quite sunny, but it rains a lot too. Sometimes both happen together."
Rachel laughed at that last line, but Ben kept a straight face. It was true anyway.
"It's quite urban too, much like London." he continued.
"I see," she chuckled, "So, how's London so far?"
"Hmm, okay I guess. But it's been a lot better since I've met you." was his sharp, witty reply.
Ben's charming innocence was starting to turn Rachel on. He's just so likeable.
"Aww...That's so sweet." she purred.
"Hey, it's getting late now. Tell you what, why don't we have dinner tomorrow?" she asked.
Ben was slightly taken aback by her forthrightness, but he accepted her offer.
"Oh, OK then!"
They exchanged numbers, and Rachel gave him a goodbye kiss. It certainly won't be the last he would receive from her.
Suddenly, Ben felt good. Things were definitely looking up.
