The trees rustled in the wind all around Aeron. The sun was shining brightly down on his young face. He opened his brown eyes while placing his hand in front of his eyes to protect them from the bright setting sun on the horizon. He looked around him and saw the decaying buildings beginning to cast a thick shadow across the streets filled with old rusted cars. Aeron slowly stood up. He collapsed down to the ground when his thin left leg began to throb tremendously from a stabbing pain. Aeron looked down to his left leg and noticed the arrow stuck in his calf. He screamed in pain before realising that it was a foolish thing to do.

"Damn it!" he whispered as he began to look around him nervously. He heard movement in the decaying buildings around him. Aeron slowly stood up again while he clenched his face from the pain he was feeling in his left leg. He attempted to run, but failed as he collapsed on the ground again and ended up wincing in pain. He stood up again with tears swelling in his eyes. He heard the movement getting closer to him. Aeron now began to now slide his left leg and take long steps with his right leg.

Aeron was now wincing and crying as he fought against the pain. He wished it didn't have to end this way, but it did. He could now hear the movement catching up with him. Aeron realised that he wouldn't be able to run away from them. The only way he was going to be able to survive this is if he hid away from them. He quickly scouted around him to look for a suitable place. He had to find one fast. Aeron saw an old S.W.A.T. van in an alley that was across from him and its' door were open. Perfect. They wouldn't find him there. He quickly stepped-slid his way to the van, hoping that they weren't able to see him hide in it.

After a few moments Aeron was by the van. He looked over to the seats and saw an old blanket there. Someone must have used this as a home after the outbreak, but it didn't matter now. John quickly climbed into the van and closed its' doors as quietly as possible. He then threw the blanket over himself and remained still and quiet. The streets around him went silent and soon he was only able to hear his own soft breathing.

Was it over? Have they finally left him alone?

The streets around Aeron began to fill with loud banging of the old metal rubbish drums in the street. Aeron blocked his ears and held his breath. The air went silent again. Aeron took in a deep breath. The banging of the metal rubbish drums began again and continued for longer before going completely silent again, this kept on happening again and again and louder in an endless cycle. Aeron began to weep from the fear, the pain, and the complete frustration.

The banging of the metal rubbish drums came to a complete stop and Aeron could hear movement again. Aeron stopped weeping and remained completely silent. He then heard an old metal rubbish drum fall down behind the S.W.A.T. van.

They were close.

Aeron now held his breath in, remained still and closed his eyes. In his head, he was praying to the god that his forefathers prayed to in the Before times.

"SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEECH" went the sound that was made from a stone scratching the S.W.A.T. van. Aeron's eyes began to form tears from the fear. The screeching soon became so loud and unbearable that Aeron screamed from the agony. The air went silent. Aeron now knew that these were going to be his last moments in his short life. Today was the day he was going to die. Aeron wiped the tears from his face and put his "strong" face on. He sat up and removed the blanket off him. The van's right door opened. A blonde and skinny ten year old boy stood there and stared at Aeron with his bright blue eyes.

"You have me," Aeron said softly.

"I found you!" explained the little boy in excitement.

"Yes, you did."

The van was soon surrounded by little boys from the ages of six until the age of twelve.

"Now that was a fun game of hide and seek!" explained the blonde boy. The whole group of young boys cheered in agreement. "Too bad it is over now,"

Aeron looked at the small blonde boy and took in a deep breath. The small blonde boy then took out a pistol and aimed it at Aeron's head.

"Happy 18th birthday!" exclaimed the little blonde boy with a smile as he pulled the trigger.

The last thing Aeron saw was the smile on the little blonde boy's face before the world echoed with a gunshot and became black.
