“Nat, you coming?” A voice above me asked.
I opened her eyes and looked up at one of my three best friends, Ty’s chocolate brown eyes.
“Coming where?” I asked rubbing her eyes.
“Swimming, it’s what you do at the beach,” he said as he pulled me to my feet.
“I’ll race you,” I yelled over my shoulder as I started running across the wet sand.
“Oh, no you don’t,” Ty said grabbing me by the waist and slinging me over his shoulder.
I protested and laughed as he continued down the shore. As he was about to dump me into the water, my other best friend Sam, came up behind him and shoved both of us into the cold sea water. He stood there laughing till Cyle the biggest of the three heard the commotion and came over. He easily tossed Sam into the water. I pulled myself up onto the dock and was talking to Cyle when Sam and Ty stumbled back up onto the dock where we sat. Cyle had sandy blonde hair that just fell over his eyes and the deepest sea green eyes you’ve ever seen. Ty sat down next to Cyle; he was a little shorter than Cyle, with dark brown hair and chocolate brown eyes. Sam sat down on the other side of Ty, had longish light brown hair and bright blue eyes.
“So, do you guys have dates for the Spring Fling yet?” Cyle asked.
“I don’t,” I said as I started to apply suntan lotion to my legs and arms.
“Me neither. Want me to do your back?” Cyle asked.
I nodded as he started to gently rub the lotion in.
”Do you want to go together?” he asked.
“Sure,” I said turning so that I was facing him.
“Awesome. What about you two? Got dates yet?” Cyle asked.
“I’m going with Heidi,” Ty said referring to his newest girl friend.
“It’s serious between you to, huh?” I asked.
“Yeah, I guess so,” he said shrugging.
“What about you Sam?” I asked, turning to look over at him.
“Nope, I’m flying solo,” he replied.
“Enough about that, let’s go catch some waves,” Ty suggested
The three boys headed over to Cyle’s Jeep and grabbed their surf boards. I lay down on my towel and opened a water bottle. I watched as Sam caught a huge wave and rode it almost all the way to shore before wiping out. He popped up and grabbed onto his board. He quickly swam the little ways back to the shore and ran up onto the beach. Sam dropped his surf board into the sand next to me and shook his hair out over my back.
“Sam!” I squealed as cold droplets splattered across my skin.
“Come on, Nat. It’s too good a day to just lie around in the sun. Come on out and ride with us,” he said gesturing towards my untouched purple surf board that lay in the sand beside to me.
“Will you go away if I do?” I asked sitting up.
“Sure, but only if you can stay on longer than me,” he said helping me up.
“Deal,” I cried running towards the surf with my board under my arm.
“No fair,” he called as he ran after me.

I was already swimming out and waiting for a wave before he was even in the water. A nice one came and I stood up, as Sam watched I rode it most of the way to the shore. I grinned triumphantly as I made my way to the sand. I stuck my surf board back into the sand and lay back down on my towel.
