Nick and Zac: Your Typical "Big Brother's Best Friend And Little Sister" Story

Novel By: Cherie Arlavine
Young adult

Three years ago she was a fourteen-year-old tomboy. And he was an eighteen-year-old senior who looked at her like a little sister. And she always thought of him as a buddy or big brother.
But then he had to go to college, in Europe. And three slow years passed by, and now he's back. Nicholas comes back expecting to see his best friend and the little tomboy he left.
Zac was looking forward to seeing her old buddy. The one she used to wrestle and play football with. But Nicholas returns, and things are just not the same.
Nicholas is twenty-one, and he's built, tan, and cultured.
Zac is seventeen and she's curvy and sexy. Not flat chested and sporty.
And neither of them seem to like the changes.
Zac and Nicholas end up fighting rather then sharing old memories. Just because neither of them are so good at accepting change.
Josh, Zac's older brother, is trying to figure what the hell is wrong. He and Nick went right back to old times.
But Reece, Josh's other friend, has a theory about why Zac and Nick are either really polite or fighting.
And Josh doesn't like his theory at all.

Nick and Josh walked down the isle quietly. What did you say to the guy who was planning to sleep with your little sister? Josh grabbed a few First Response ovulation tests, and pregnancy tests, threw them into the basket on his arm.

"I'm sorry, Josh. You know this is the last thing I ever thought would happen. I thought I would come back and it would be just like old times, but it just can't be that way."

"I know." Josh murmured. "It's not like I didn't know this was coming sooner or later, I just didn't think it would be with you."

"At least you know I care about her, a lot." He faced the opposite side of the isle, looking at condoms. He reached out, then pulled his arm back. "I don't know what to do."

Josh picked the Plan B off the shelf, started reading the back to make sure Zac wasn't allergic to any of the ingredients. "What do you mean?"
"I mean with…with Zac."

Josh lowered the box and turned to look at his friend. "I thought you've had sex-"

"Dude, no, that' not what I meant." He breathed. He sank down and sat on the bottom shelf. "I've never been with a virgin before. All the girls I've been with were experienced and had sex at least four times before. I don't know what to do exactly."

Josh sighed. "I am really not the person to talk to about this man. There's a line."

"I know. I don't want to hurt her though."

"Talk to Reece or someone. Get your condoms." He started to turn away, but turned back to Nick. "And another thing. It's you job to pick up her birth control from now on."

At the checkout, Josh looked at the condoms his friend had picked. "Um, aren't those new?" he asked.

"Yeah, I think so." Nick said casually, grinning at the check out girl as she scanned the sex related items. She kept her eyes down as if she was embarrassed.

"What if they're faulty and break easily? It happens. They have call backs all the time."

"Josh, really?" Nick asked. "I trust the brand. Okay?"

"You're going to have sex with my sister." Josh reminded.

The cashier froze in mid scan, the condoms in her hand. She swallowed and put them in a bag. "Um, they work pretty well." she murmured. "My boyfriend gets this kind."

Nick smirked. "See Josh?"

Josh reached for his wallet, but Nick handed his card to the cashier. "On me, buddy."

She held back a smile as she slipped the card through the slot, then stuck the receipt in the bag and handed Nick the card.

"Don't act cocky, Nick." Josh snapped. "Because I'm this close to kicking your ass." he snatched the bag from the cashier and stormed out of the store. Nick didn't speak as he drove them back to the house.

"So how long is it going to be like this?" he asked finally. "How long are you going to be pissed at me?"

"Until the wedding." Josh muttered.

"You're a hypocrite Josh."

"I made mistakes. It doesn't mean I don't want better for my sister. I'm not telling her to not do anything am I? And look who's talking. Three years ago you said you'd kill any guy she slept with. And a few hours ago you got seriously pissed off when you thought she was doing shit like this with Chet."

"Touché."
