Nick and Zac: Your Typical "Big Brother's Best Friend And Little Sister" Story

Novel By: Cherie Arlavine
Young adult

Three years ago she was a fourteen-year-old tomboy. And he was an eighteen-year-old senior who looked at her like a little sister. And she always thought of him as a buddy or big brother.
But then he had to go to college, in Europe. And three slow years passed by, and now he's back. Nicholas comes back expecting to see his best friend and the little tomboy he left.
Zac was looking forward to seeing her old buddy. The one she used to wrestle and play football with. But Nicholas returns, and things are just not the same.
Nicholas is twenty-one, and he's built, tan, and cultured.
Zac is seventeen and she's curvy and sexy. Not flat chested and sporty.
And neither of them seem to like the changes.
Zac and Nicholas end up fighting rather then sharing old memories. Just because neither of them are so good at accepting change.
Josh, Zac's older brother, is trying to figure what the hell is wrong. He and Nick went right back to old times.
But Reece, Josh's other friend, has a theory about why Zac and Nick are either really polite or fighting.
And Josh doesn't like his theory at all.

He parked the car in the garage and they went into the house, coming into through the kitchen. He laid the bag down on the dining table. "Zac." Josh called. "Come down."

I was hesitant as I came downstairs, obviously embarrassed and uncomfortable. "Yeah?" I murmured.

"Well, I'm leaving." Josh said, a humorless smile on his face. "But Reece is here, so don't get any ideas. You two are going to sit down and talk about this like adults." He took the keys from Nicholas and left the house.

I sat down at the table, tapped my fingers on the glass. "So." I muttered.

Reece came in, plopped down. "Saw Josh left. Took my cue. So you two want to have sex and Josh wants it safe." He grabbed the bag and dumped it's contents. "Looks like Josh got everything you need. So what's the problem?"

"Who said there's a problem?" Nicholas asked him.

"Well I can think of a couple. Right off the top of my head that she is a virgin and you've never been with one before."

"Reece." Nicholas sighed.

"Well just trying to get it out on the open. Get past it. Will both of you stop being so damn embarrassed?"

"I am not embarrassed, I just don't her to worry."

"Well she's embarrassed. Of course she's a virgin so she has an excuse." Reece smirked at me.

I adjusted uncomfortably and looked down. "Is this over yet?"

"Not even close." Reece said and laughed.

"Well I say it is." Nick said and grabbed the boxes and threw them into the bag. He took my hand and pulled me up and out of the kitchen.

"I'll be right down here, listening to everything that happens in that bedroom that you think is completely sealed off from sound." He called.

"I'm pretty sure Josh paid him to say that." I muttered.

Nicholas laughed and led me to my room and inside. He shut the door and led me over to my bed, dumped the bag. "Do we need to talk about any of this?" he asked. "If you have any questions you can ask me."

"I pretty much get the concept." I explained, picking up the pregnancy test. I dropped it again. "But I do have a question."

Nicholas nodded.

"Will it hurt?" I asked him. "Is it normal to be scared?"

"Yes and yes. It usually does hurt girls their first time. And people are always afraid of the unknown and of change."

"Why am I never this embarrassed when you and I get into intense make out sessions?" I asked, sitting down on the bed. I opened my dresser drawer and put the boxes in there, aside from the condoms. I picked up the box. "Do you keep these or do I?"

Nicholas smiled and plopped down next to me on the bed. "Well I'd like to keep a few in my wallet and in my room. You should put some in your purse and you can put any others in here."

I widened my eyes. "Exactly how many are we going to use? The whole box?"

Nicholas burst into laughter, and laid back on the bed, holding his sides. "This is too fun." he said in between breaths.

"It just seems like a lot of planning for sex." I explained.

"Josh is trying to scare you. Can't say I blame him. He's shoving all this in your face to say, 'still want to do this'? It's not all really necessary. I mean, it's good to have it, but he tends to think that something is going to go wrong."

"I feel like he's going to plan the whole damn thing. Right down to how long it lasts, how much we kiss and when we-" I cut myself off. "You get my point."

"Like I said, he's trying to scare you. And we don't have to do anything. Because it's up to you. If you want to wait a year, well, then we'll wait a year."

"I don't know." I replied honestly. "I think we shouldn't kiss either, because it seems like when we do it's inevitable. Can I just, be alone for a moment?"

He nodded, kissed my cheek. "No problem. If you need me you know where to find me."

He left the room.
