Nick and Zac: Your Typical "Big Brother's Best Friend And Little Sister" Story

Novel By: Cherie Arlavine
Young adult

Three years ago she was a fourteen-year-old tomboy. And he was an eighteen-year-old senior who looked at her like a little sister. And she always thought of him as a buddy or big brother.
But then he had to go to college, in Europe. And three slow years passed by, and now he's back. Nicholas comes back expecting to see his best friend and the little tomboy he left.
Zac was looking forward to seeing her old buddy. The one she used to wrestle and play football with. But Nicholas returns, and things are just not the same.
Nicholas is twenty-one, and he's built, tan, and cultured.
Zac is seventeen and she's curvy and sexy. Not flat chested and sporty.
And neither of them seem to like the changes.
Zac and Nicholas end up fighting rather then sharing old memories. Just because neither of them are so good at accepting change.
Josh, Zac's older brother, is trying to figure what the hell is wrong. He and Nick went right back to old times.
But Reece, Josh's other friend, has a theory about why Zac and Nick are either really polite or fighting.
And Josh doesn't like his theory at all.

Josh ran his hands over his face. "We both saw that." he said to Reece. "It's happening. She's only seventeen."

"Josh, she's almost an adult. You can talk to her and Nick, but you can't stop them."

"Well, like I could. Zac always gets what she wants." Josh laid back on his bed. "Maybe it's time I step up as man of the house and put my foot down."

"That's something I'd pay to see." Reece chuckled.

Josh sat up. "You know what, I am going to do it. It's one thing to let Zac get away with the little things, but this is her virginity we're talking about. It's my job to make sure she doesn't lose it until she's out of my house. Until she's married preferably."

"I don't know about that, they were hot and heavy."

"At least not while she lives in my house."

"Josh, you need to be the understanding brother. If you try to tell her what to do she'll just get pissed and run to Nick faster."

"That's not fair! I'm always understanding. I don't want to be understanding this time."

"You don't have to be with Nick. He'll respect your wishes. Or try to. You can lay it down with him, just don't let Zac find out."

"Fine. I'm talking to Nick, tonight."

Nick was a bit wary when Josh asked him to take a walk with him at nearly midnight, but he went.

"I saw you and Zac, in the hallway." Josh said.

Nick swallowed. "Oh."

"You're a good guy Nick, you're a great friend. But I've got to do what's best for Zac. I'll let you two be together, I know I can't stop you. But you can't sleep with her. Not when she's only seventeen."

"I wasn't exactly planning to sleep with her. I know she's young."

"You two were pretty hot and heavy in the hallway. I don't like where this is going."

"Josh, it's not going anywhere. Zac and me are not going to get together. The hallway, it was a moment of weakness. I forgot who she was. She's Zac, she's my buddy and your little sister. I know better. Nothing is going to happen. I'm sorry I freaked you out."

"Look I'm not asking you to stay away-"

"I know you're not. I'm telling you. Nothing more is going to happen. She's just a damn kid and I don't want her okay? So can we just drop this?"
"Well Zac might think there is something more."

"I'll set her straight. We're just going to be friends, that's it. Okay?"

Josh sighed. "Alright, but only if she's okay with it. If Zac wants to be with you then you don't have a choice."

"Josh, Zac has to learn the word no."

"Hey, you kissed her first. You started it. If it had been the other way around I would be okay, but you gave her the idea. And you've got to learn to stick to your actions. If you think I'm going to let you so much as hurt her feelings, much less break her heart, you've got another thing coming."

Josh said, his voice hard now. "And if you hurt her you and I are no longer friends and you'll be lucky if I don't beat your ass. Zac is more than my little sister, Nick. She's my whole damn world. She's the damn center of it. You ought to know that better than anyone."

Josh turned and stormed back towards the house.

Nick ran a hand through his hair. He was in some deep shit. Because Nick was known as a notorious heartbreaker. Sometime he did it purposely, but mostly he couldn't help it. The last thing he wanted to do was break Zac's heart. But he wasn't sure if he could keep from doing that.
