Diandra followed him out from his apartment and down to the basement where he parked his car. Unlike her mother’s apartment basement, it wasn’t dimly lighted and a little dirty. This one was bright, clean and as far as she could see, there was not a rubbish in sight. She figured Hunter must be really rich to afford to pay the rent for the place. She was quite surprised when she saw his car. She had expected a car, not a four wheel drive. She thought he would've been one of those guys who drove sport cars and stuff like that. It wasn’t those kinds of really expensive four wheel drives like a Ford or a Land Rover, but more like your normal I-travel-anywhere-even-in-mountains-and-through-forests jeep. She guessed that he heard her gasp because he turned around to say, "I know. She's beautiful, isn't she?"
She nodded her head in agreement, still feeling a little amazed. "You're just full of surprises. Did you know that?" she said, giving him a smile. He didn't say anything until both of them climbed into the car, and he started the engine. It roared to life, then the sound softened just a fraction. "Long time ago." He finally answered, grinning his crooked grin once again. Somehow, that grin managed to make her heart flip over, and she didn't know whether she liked it or not. Sure he was cute. But compared to Jason? She shook her head at the thoughts that filled her head, and looked in front, keeping quiet.
"What's wrong?" Hunter asked, as he drove out of the basment.
"Nothing."
"Don't lie to me Dee. I've seen that face many times before, to know that something is wrong."
"If you have, then I must know you. Which hopefully I like to point out for the last time, I don't." She said, emphasizing on the last word.
He chuckled deeply but softly and turned to look at her. "Don't worry. Old memories always come back."
"Sure they do." She muttered under her breath.
"So, you haven't answered my question yet. What's wrong?" he asked, not letting it go.
She sighed softly and stared at the road ahead. "I was just thinking about Jason. Wondering what he would think about this.
She heard Hunter inhale sharply, and she winced a little. "Knew it." He muttered under his breath, but loud enough for her to hear it.
"I still can't believe that you are dating him, you know. He is quite a jerk."
"How would you know?" she asked defensively.
"Because, he and I are in all of the same classes. And, me and him, we don't get on that well. If you want to know, he is kind of..dull." He said.
"Well...he-he-...it's because-"
"Oh, just admit it. I'm right," he said, cutting her off.
"Hmph." That was all she said.
She heard him chuckle and it made her a little irritated. She darted a quick, annoyed glare at him, then continue to stare at the road ahead.
He noticed her glare, but just grinned and looked back at the road. The car was comfortable, but it was a little too high for her taste. Today was not really her kind of day. It was dark and cloudy, the sun hidden behind heaps of clouds. She could see the sky turning dark, and bet that it was going to rain soon. For about five minutes, there was complete silence. It made her really uncomfortable, and she racked her brains, wondering what she would say. Finally, she couldn't stand it, and opened her mouth to ask a question.
"That was your apartment, right?" She asked, darting a glance at him, breaking the silence.
"Yeah. Why the sudden curiousity?" He asked, his eyebrows raising though he was still concentrating on the road ahead of them.
"No reason. My curious nature's just poking around a little." She said, shrugging her shoulders. "Wanna play ten questions?" she added, after a short pause.
Hunter chuckled again, and muttered something about childrens' game. "Sure, why not." He said, sounding amused.
Di just ignored him and shot off with the questions. "What's your real name?" she asked, sounding curious.
