She woke up to the gentle loving shakes of her father looming over her. He shook her gently and she mummbled something under her breath and he moved away litltle so she could sit up. She opened her eyes on cue and watched her father's lips move nd they motioned 'breakfasts ready'. She nodded and he walked out and she reached over to her night stand and put in her hearing aid. Yes, she is a deaf child and cannot hear at all. Her name is Kristine, which means Christ-bearer, and she was diagnosed with being deaf at age one. She has gone to a school only for people like her, except in kindergarden, and she had to move because of her father's work and where she lives now doesn't have a school for her and has to go to public school. She therw off the blanket and stretched her arms above her head.

Kristine walked to her dresser and pulled out a burgundy top and pleated blue skirt. She pulled on some stockings and slipped them on. She pulled on her shirt and buttoned one of the top three buttons. She brushed her light brown hair and grabbed her black flats from under her bed and put them on. She grabbed her reading glasses and put them in her bag and went downstairs. She walked up to her mother and gave her a kiss on the cheek. She grabbed and apple and cinnamon toaster stroddle and gave her father a hug before her big brother, Derek, which means ruler, came downstairs. She turned on her hearing aid and watched his lips move 'have a good day at school'. He hugged her before she set out to the bus stop. When she reached the bus stop the bus was pulling up and she started to get on when she saw a boy with glasses running. She waited for him to get close enough and she knew the bus driver was yelling at her.

She got on and the boy said thank you, but she didn't hear and kept walking to the back of the bus. The boy followed her and sat beside her in one of the seats. She turned her attention to the boy and the boy thanked her for waiting.

"My name is Felix," he said.

She watched his lips and smiled. He began to talkand talk and talkfast and she stared at him and put her finger to his lips. She took her other hand and used her index finger to tap her left earlobe one... two... three times. His smile faded and she movedher finger away.

"I'm sorry," he said.

"It's fine," she replied, "just talk a little slower please."

"Of course," he smiled again, "What's your name?"

"Kristine, my friends called me Krissy," she responded.

"Hello Kristine, I'm Felix," Felix held out his hand and Kristine shook it.

The bus screeched to a stop and everyone winced except for Kristine and she saw everyone rubbing their temples. She giggled and picked up her bag and walked off the bus and Felix showed her the main office.

"Thank you," she waved goodbye.

"Any time," he walked off and she saw some other guy trip him making his stuff fly everywhere.

Kristine walked into the main office and got her schedule. Mostly advanced classes and one extra class for her. She walked out and bumped into a tall burly boy.

"Sorry," she said.

She looked up at the boy with blonde hair and gray-green eyes.

"No problem," he studied her.

She turned on her heels and walked to her first class. She opened the door and everyone turned to her. She stared at everyone in the class and the teacher was talking. She saw the same boy sitting at a lab table alone. The teacher waved his hand in front of her and she snapped her head to face him.

"You must be Kristine," he held out his hand and she shook it, "you can sit next to Brian."

Kristine nodded and went over and sat next to Brian. She crossed her ankles and pulled out a notebook and pen. Brian tapped her wrist and she turned to face him.

"Hello again," he smiled.

"Hi," she smiled.

"So you're the girl I'm going to be helping," he laughed.

"You're my translater?," she asked.

He nodded and that class Brian showed Kristine everythingshe needed to knowbecause she cant follow when someone talks to fast. After class she got her Advanced Biology textbook and Brian showed her her locker. A girl with blonde hair walked up to Brian and pulled him down into a kiss. Kristine closed her locker and walked away and found Felix.

"Hey Felix," Kristine tapped his shoulder.

"Hey Kristine," he replied.

"What's up?," she asked.

"My usual routine," he sighed.

"Oh," she laughed, "I saw what that mean kid did to you."

"It's fine," he laughed.

Felix looked up and saw the blonde girl, Cindy, laughing.

"Trying to comfort the new deaf girl Felix?," Cindy mocked.

Kristine stared at him curiously and turned and saw Cindy with her hand in Brian's. Kristine didn't hear what Cindy had said and so wasn't effected. Cindy laughed and turned her gaze back to Kristine. She smiled widely and evily wanting to pick on the new girl.

"She couldn't even hear what I said!," people started looking their way.

Kristine stared at everyone and felt uncomfortable and backed away. This was just like the time she was teased in kindergarten because she couldn't hear and got locked outside after play time. Kristine hadn't gone to a school for deaf children until first grade. Kristine stared at everyone and they were all laughing. Felix gently touched her elbow, but she reacted badly and shook him off and ran past everyone. She turned hard right and found a janitors closet. She opened the door and locked herself in. She set up some old dusty black crates and sat on them. She was sobbing and then there was aknock on the janitors door. She hadn't heard and then the knock was harder. She saw the door be naged on so she opened it anyway.

She saw her Advanced Biology teacher Mr. Lance. She sat back on the crates and Mr. Lance looked at her with curiousness written on his face. Kristine looked back up and watched his lips.

"What's wrong?," he asked.

"I-I'm d-different from everyone else," she stuttered wiping away her tears.

"Don't tell me, Cindy right?," he crossed his arms.

"I don't know her name," Kristine stood up and wiped the rest of the tears away.

"I have to go to class," she walked past Mr. Lance and went to her next class.
