Part One
Prologue
I looked around the circle at my friends, each of us different yet similar. In our own way, we’re a family. We’ve all had family problems, but we have stayed together through it all.
Marisol is the outgoing one. She’s not afraid to tell you what she thinks. Sol doesn’t care if you don’t like her. She’ll tell you what you really are and doesn’t beat around the bush. Plus, she has the voice of an angel.
Leilani is Hawaiian, in case you didn’t figure that out from her name. She’s our poet. She writes the best poetry in the world.
Kenzie is a Heinz 57, which means that she’s a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Kenz is also our punk rocker. She’s not scary punk rocker though. She’s one of the best guitarists in our neighborhood.
Rebekah is Jewish. Her parents are really strict and stick to the rules a lot, but Bekah tries to get by without all the strict rules. She is also an awesome artist.
Last is me, Hailee. I’m also a Heinz 57, like Kenz. I’m the sporty one and don’t have any real talent, except writing stories.
We all live in Mississippi now. Sol is originally from New York. Lei is from Hawaii. Kenz is from California, Bekah’s been here forever, and I’m originally from Texas. This is our story.
