Chapter 1
Her name was of many names. But the most common was Maria. She lived with what seemed like the most trust worthy person there was in the land of Purgatory. Their house had bars on it, three floors of mixed feelings of all different kinds. He and his wife took care of her with kind-heartedness. But she soon found herself having terrible dreams in the house. Dreams of murder and horrifying twists of the mind. The woodsman of what she thought of the most trustworthy person began to form into an image of a scary, vile, evil, ugly axman who would murder her in her sleep without even trying.
The day she left she had said to him that he was the worst person in the land of demons, murderers, and innocent people and with that she left as fast as she could to escape his grasp. But as she left she only heard him say a few words. “Every world is filled with those things, so I must be the worst man in everything that is.”
Days later she now lives on her own in a small apartment that was once a bank. She had nothing. But in the land of purgatory that wasn’t a problem. For the devil was always trying to luer them. He would help the people at any cost as long as it was not obserd in his eyes. He had helped Maria by giving her a room in the bank;his house. Every other night she would dine with demons serving her. She would dine with the devil. Almost all of these meals were silent. Silence that was filled with resentment, yet she was served well and offered so much.
Everyday the devil would come home in his suit and try to make small talk with Maria and the others who had taken rooms in his house. But it would try to get Maria to talk more than any of the others. But she stayed silent. She would not be tempted by demons no matter how many were around her. “I give you so much and you do nothing back. One day you will pay for your arrogance.” it once said to her. She only said one word, “No” before she excused herself for the table. As she did it yelled at her snidefully, “you’ll be thankful someday and when you are. You’ll be mine.”
But Maria just continued to write every night to the Lord as she heard from the other rooms around her whispers about her faith. There were rumors about her, and as more spread the more “Papa” devil looked comforting. But she saw it’s plan. She would not be tempted. She knew the devil would accept anyone, because once he had them they would be torchured everyday. She also knew that God was accepting as well, and his love was true.
In the small town in Purgatory you can easily go crazy. Even those kinds of people were accepted by the evil demon of the underworld. Maria believed she was only crazy if she gave into it. The crazed dreams had stopped in the house. But she believed this was only a coincedence.
There were two jobs in the town. There was working for the devil, serving him. Doing his every need and bidding whether it was to kill someone or to get him piece of cake. There was also the only other job available: working for God. By feeding people in other realms soul food. This “soul food” could be just as easy as to brightening their day with a small task. Such as having them find an umbrella on a rainy day. “Soul food” could also be literally giving them food, but this isn’t any food. It let them live another year or so, depending on how much they were given. Maria served God by giving out literal food.
Every other week she would recieve the food in the mail. She would travel realms every other week. Each time going to another place for another assigned person. She would get there by knocking with a latch on a door and walking through it or, a not so casualty, going through a window.
She didn’t know anything about the people she delivered it too, nor did they of her. They would see her sometimes but not all the time. It was like they could sometimes hear her or feel her touch but she could never fully be visibly solid like she was in Purgatory. There was no past or future, only present in these worlds. Things seemed different with tall buildings or sometimes glowing sources of light, projecting pictures from only a box. But seeing that she had left a realm for another it was no surprise to her after awhile. But they always were so clueless of who she was.
