RHIANNON

The doctor did many tests to make sure I was in condition to go through with the abortion. At last he took it out of me. I bled so much, I had to have blood transfusions and spend a night in the hospital. My mom had bribed this doctor to preform the abortion and he agreed happily without thinking twice. My mother had left me there, not even bothering to check on me or see if I was even alive. Finally they had let me out the next morning with the condition that I had to rest for the next two days. I had called Rowan those days so many times without an answer. After those days I went back to school and again everyone asked why I was absent. I had told them to fuck off and mind their own business. As soon as the bell rung to dismiss everyone from class I got a call from Rowan.

"Rowan! I've been trying to call you."

"Rhiannon, we need to talk. I'm waiting for you outside of the front lobby."

"Okay I'll be out in a sec." I said to the phone. She had hung up on me before I could say anything. I guess she was really mad about me making that decision, but I was too young to have a kid. That was what I had decided and I have no regrets. I went outside the doors of the front lobby and immediately saw the fancy black car. I went towards it and got in.

"Hi." I said.

"Hey." She said as she began driving. I recognized the way we were going; it was the way to our favorite cafe'. We got our latte's and sat down.

"So what did you bring me here for?" I asked starting to get mad.

"Rhiannon you know you're like a daughter to me right?"

"Yea, sure."

"Rhiannon my real daughters are in trouble. They're in New York with their father and you know how fathers barely pay any attention to what the kids do. And I have to go get them out of trouble like always."

"What? Will you come back?"

"...Maybe. I hope to be back in two weeks at the most. If I'm not back by then I'll probably just stay in New York."

"You can't stay. I need you."

"Rhiannon, what do you need me for? You can take decisions all by yourself now. You don't really need me."

"Yes I do. You're like my mother now. I don't want my mother to leave."

"As much as I would'v loved to be your real mother, I'm not and I have children of my own. I have to take care of them."

"But what trouble could they be in if you said they're practically babies."

"I never said they're babies, but that's not an excuse for me to leave them the younger they are the more they need of their mother. I have to go."

"But..."

"Let's take you back home Rhiannon." She said getting up and heading for the car.

"But Rowan."

"I'm done talking about it Rhiannon. I'm leaving and that's that."

I got in the car and we didn't speak a word the whole way to my house. When we got there we both got off a Rowan gave me a huge hug.

"I hope to see your pretty face again some day." She said releasing me and then going back into her car.

"Rowan, don't leave." I yelled as she drove away. I sat on the steps and stared up at the cloudy sky, that began sprinkling, hoping that she would come back and say it was all a joke; that she's not leaving. It began to get dark and I saw the figure of a car coming in through the trees. I stood up and craned my neck but it was just my mom's escalade. I gave up hoping for Rowan to come back and I felt an emptiness in me I had never felt before. I tried to ignore it but it kept aching feeling loneliness.

................................................................................................................................................

I didn't go to school for the past two days; since Rowan left. she left me aching and unwanting to live anymore. She kept me busy so I wouldn't think of anything bad, but now that she's not here I keep remembering the man who raped me and everytime I remember she helped me that aching emptiness returned. 'I'm going to New York' she had said. The idea hit me, since I had been born in New York, I don't think my mom would refuse to take me back or atleast for a little while. So I went down stairs and into the kitchen and found Martha.

"Martha do you know where my mom is?"

"She went to the dry cleaners to pick up her dress."

"Oh, right. Can you tell her to come up to my room when she gets home?" I said grabbing some applesauce from the fridge.

"Of course."

"Thank you Martha." Martha had taken care of me when my father went crazy and my mother worked day and night as a way to manage her stress, so I had much respect for her. I went up to my room and watched tv until my mother got home.

"Martha said you wanted to talk to me."

"Yes, come on in." She came in and sat down on the edge of my bed. "Mom" I started "I was thinking about how I was born in New York and yet I really haven't ever seen the place. So I was thinking..."

"You want to move up there?" she said with a brilliant smile.

"Yes."

"Oh my God, Rhiannon I thought you'd never ask."

"So is that a yes?"

"That's a hell yea! Well, what are you waiting for? Start packing we'll leave as soon as possible."

"That's great! Can we take Martha too?"

"Of course darling."

We packed that day and I went to school the next day. That day my mother went to get all my transferring paperwork and picked me up early. I got so many hugs from so many people so many times, it made me feel like a celebrity and I loved it but I would go after Rowan no matter what.
