I opened my eyes gently, looking around the room. My eyes fell on my Dad who was fast asleep on the couch next to my bed. Since when did I have a couch next to my bed? I looked around the room slowly. The white walls looked pale, as the smell of disinfectant hit me. I scrunched up my nose and took a deep breath. I looked back at my Dad to see him waking up looking at me. "Hey, you're up." He said smiling at me moving the hair gently from my face. I nodded my head looking at the clock on the bedside table. 3:00 in the morning.

"Yeah, what happened?" I asked lifting my hand up to my face. I felt the pulling of my IV on my hand. Dad looked at me.
"What do you remember baby?" He asked rubbing my forehead with his thumb. I looked up at him.
"I remember opening the door and the Marines telling me that Hunter and Tanner could be gone, than I was yelling at you, than I, I can't remember anything else." I swallowed hard remembering the feeling I felt when I saw they. Dad gently stroked my cheek like I was going to brake at any moment.
"Baby you have been out for awhile." He whispered. I looked down and sure enough I looked at lease 7 or 8 months pregnant. I put my hands on my big belly holding my breath. Dad put his hands on my belly waiting as it kicked me.
"How long Daddy?" I asked rubbing the spot where the baby jabbed me. He sighed.
"4 and a half months now Baby." My eyes widened completely. I looked down at my bump rubbing it gently not knowing what to do. "Baby, your 8 months pregnant now." I looked up at him with tears in my eyes.
"Why was I out for so long?" I croaked at him. He got up getting me a cup of cold water. He handed it to me helping me take a nice long drink, cooling my burning throat. He sat back down after he got me another cup.
"You got some bad news." I looked at him, almost scared for the answer. He put his hand over mine and held it tightly.
"What kind of bad news?" I asked the tears forming in my eyes before rolling down. Dad took a deep breath closing his eyes. He opened his mouth to answer me but the door opened and in stepped a doctor.
"Ah Miss Banks you are finally up." He smiled at me. He picked up my chart and read over it. I looked at him before my eyes fell back onto my Dad. He looked relieved that he didn't have to tell me the bad news. I looked at back at the doctor franticly waiting for him to leave. He looked up at me and smiled. "Well I am going to do the daily ultra sounds that we usually do to see how the baby is. Let me get one of the machines and then I will be back soon." He smiled putting my chart down. He walked out quickly and quietly as I looked back at my Dad as he looked down. I put my hand on his hand making him look at me.
"Daddy what was the bad news?" I asked him. He looked at my face before a sad look came across his face. I tilted my head to the side. "You can tell me Dad. I need to know." I closed my eyes fighting the tears that wanted so bad to just fall down. I heard him sigh causing me to open my eyes and look at him through the tears.
"Baby you remember when the Marines came to our house?" I nodded my head gently unsure of what he was going to say. "Well, remember how they told us that they didn't know what happened to Hunter's base?" I nodded again as I lost the battle for fighting my tears, causing them to over flow and roll down my face.
"Yeah, what are you trying to say Dad?" I asked in a weak voice. He took a deep breath.
"Baby Tanner's-" He got cut off by the doctor coming into the room with the ultra sound machine. I looked over at him as he pulled my hospital gown up to show my big belly. I have NEVER been gladder to have been wearing underwear in my life. Dad pulled the sheets up to my hips tucking them it under snuggly. I flinched at the cold feeling as the doctor squirted the gel on my belly. I felt the baby start to squirm inside me trying to get away from the cold liquid. I pulled a face looking at Dad as the doctor started to rub the wand around making my whole belly cold. I felt the baby start to throw a fit punching and kicking me to no end. The doctor was watching the screen as it slowly started to stop.
"Well there is your little baby." He said clicking around. "It looks like your little baby is growing up perfect. Nothing has changed much since we last looked at the little one." I looked at the screen in amazement. My little baby. Its little hands, little feet, little legs, little arms, little belly, little arms, and most of all a little head. My breath caught in my throat as it moved its little hand so it could suck on its thumb. I looked at my Dad with a look of adoration on my face. Dad smile stroking my hair as I looked back at the screen. I was amazed at the baby inside me. "Would you like to know the sex?" I nod my head looking at the picture.
"It's a little girl." He smiled at me. I looked up at the screen.
"She is perfect." I smiled looking at her. Perfect. The doctor smiled.
"Well that's it I'll leave the pictures here for you but I'll let you get some sleep." He handed me some print outs before taking his machine and leaving. I smiled at the pictures before looking back at Dad.
"What were you saying Daddy?" I asked my smile gone. He looked at me swallowing hard.
"Ryan, Tanner's Dead."
