I pulled up into a spot at the hospital and quickly got out. Bailey clung onto me as I wrapped her in her blanket. I grabbed the diaper bag before I quickly made my way to the hospital doors. Mom was standing by the entrance still in her work scrubs. She put her hand on my back as we made our way to the Pediatric Emergency room. I saw the nurses look over at us as we walked into the silent room. Bailey started to cry making her pacifier fall out of her mouth and onto the floor. "Dr. Smith my daughter and granddaughter are here." The Man looked up from where he was sitting looking at something. He smiled at us.

"Well I have heard a lot about you Ryan." He smiled standing up and walking over to us. "Let me get you two into room 3 over there." He said looking at Bailey started to scream making me try to calm her down. I press my lips to her head as she clutched onto me again. I gently rocked her as I walked over to the 3rd room. I sat down on the bed taking out my cell phone. I dialed Kelsey quickly and held it to my ear.
Kels* Hello?
Me* Hey Kelsey.
Kels* Hey Ryan, what's up?
Me* Well I'm kind of in the emergency room.
Kels* What? Why?
Me* Bailey is sick and she was throwing up everything.
Kels* So you took her to the E.R.
Me* Well than we took her temperature so my mom said we should get here.
Kels* What was it?
Me* Well it was 103.8°F about 20 minutes ago. I don't know if it changed now.
Kels* Wow that's high for Bailey.
Me* I know I'm scared. I want Tanner here so bad.
I felt Bailey's head roll sideways into the crook of my neck as she suckled on her pacifier.
Kels* I know but he is doing his job. I'm sure he will be there right when he gets home.
Me* I know.
Kels* Hold on Rodger just walked in.
"Rodger come here." I heard her say taking her mouth away for the phone. I heard them talking as nurses rushed around outside. Mom was talking to Dr. Smith about something as I laid down so Bailey was on my chest comfortably.
Dr. Fisher* How high is her fever?
Me* About 103.8 20 minutes ago. I'm not sure if it got higher or went any lower.
Dr. Fisher* And she is vomiting?
Me* Yes, so much I didn't even know there was that much to vomit. Doc, I feel like something is really wrong with my baby and I can't do anything about it.
Dr. Fisher* I understand Sweetheart. How is the doctor at the hospital?
Me* I think its Dr. Smith because that's how my mom was talking and still is talking to.
Dr. Fisher* Okay, I will be there in about 10 minutes. Don't do anything too big till I get there. You got that.
Me* Yes. Thank you Dr. Fisher.
Dr. Fisher* What did I tell you to call me?
Me* Sorry 'Rodger'.
Dr. Fisher* Oh I am going to beat you when I get there. I should be there in about 10 minutes so be careful.
Me* Sure thing.
I hung up the phone and took a deep breath. Mom walked into the room with Dr. Smith behind her as Bailey started to fidget on my chest. "Mom pass me that trash can?" She looked at me before passing it to me. I gently move Bailey till I have her head in my hand. She pulls a face as I pull her pacifier out of her mouth. She lets out a little cry as I move her head so it's right above the trashcan. Suddenly her body starts to shake as the sickening color puke starts to pour out of her little body. I looked in horror as she started to cry half way through making her puke more. Dr. Smith moved so he was holding the trash can looking down as she finally started to finish up. I moved her back into my arms and gently rocked her cries away. I kissed her head whispered it was going to be okay and Mommy's here. Mom had left, almost sobbing from the room about 20 seconds after it happened. I don't blame her because it was horrible to wait. She walked back in with the bracelet for Bailey with her I.D. number on it so we knew it was here.
"Take off her onesie because she isn't going to need it. I am going to take her temperature so we know what's happening." I nodded taking her out of her blanket and slipping her onesie off her little body. I laid her gently onto the bed so Mom could put a bracelet around her ankle. He next took my wrist and put the same one on me.
"Just in case." I nodded gently rubbing Bailey's little tummy. She was small, and that's what worried me the most. I didn't want her to get sicker and sicker. Dr. Smith came in with Rodger behind him in a pair of sweats. He came over to use and kissed my head.
"You okay Kid? How's the baby?" I looked down at her as she fell back to sleep. She must be so tired. My poor Bailey, my poor baby. I looked up at him as he looked at me, with the sorrow. "It will be okay Kid. She is in good hands now. Right John?" He asked looking at Dr. Smith. He nodded.
"Of course Ryan. Bailey has the entire Marine Corps Medical System in her hands. She will have the best of the best." He nodded walking over to her side with a bag of I.V. "Now Ryan I need to give this to Bailey so we can get some fluids into her since she looks every pale right now. This is something that will keep her hydrated without having something for her to throw up till we figure out what is wrong with her. I need you to get her attention so I can put it in." I nodded gently stroking Bailey's face as she woke from the rubber gloved hands touching her arm. She started to cry as she felt the prick as the needle went into her skin. I leaned down to kiss her head.
"It's okay baby." I whispered to her. I gave her back her pacifier making her calm down. Dr. Smith wrapped neon green bandage tape around her arm so it didn't move or hurt her. He looked at me before cleaning up the wrappers.
"Let's get her up stairs to the PICU." I looked at Dr. Fisher.
"We are just taking her up to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. She is too big and old for the NICU so they will bring her there. Don't worry." A nurse brought a wheel chair for me to sit in with Bailey as Mom grabbed my stuff. Rodger fallowed her as she brought me to the elevator pressing for floor number 3………….
