Some would say that I was never dealt the right cards in life. Let me put that in simple terms for anyone who doesn’t understand. My life sucked. And believe me, it did. You might think that your life is pretty bad, like maybe your parents are control freaks, or maybe your parents are dead and you’re living on the streets. But for most of you, the worst that’s probably happened to you is having one of your grandparents die. But I bet you that I can top anything you throw at me in the worst-life-ever meter.
What’s that you say? Why is my life so bad? Well, I admit, it’s probably not as bad as you’re thinking, but you know what? It seemed pretty bad to me. Here’s a little story.
Once upon a time, there was a little girl who lived with her brother and parents in a small house in New York. The family was happy until the little girl started school. The parents left, not really taking care of their children. They came back every few weeks to give the kids money to buy food. But they never lived at the house. They left the kids to fend for themselves. The kids cooked, cleaned, studied, and tried to carry out normal lives, or, as normal as they can be without parents. The brother tried his hardest to take care of his sister; he even learned to cook when he was 12. They went to school, but didn’t have many friends. Every other month, they met with the parents to discuss school and grades. If the parents weren’t happy with the grades, they went back to the house with the kids to “lecture” them, the “lectures” usually leaving the kids with a couple of bruises and cuts. Then, they would disappear again, leaving the kids all alone in the house. One day, when the parents were hosting a dinner at the house with the little girl’s uncle, the little girl decided to end her and her brother’s suffering. She killed her parents and framed her uncle, telling the police how she saw him stab her parents to death. The end.
A lovely story, isn’t it? Well, guess what? I know, you know exactly what I’m about to say. You know that I’m going to say that I was that little girl, and that that whole thing was very…sad. But seriously, I was that little girl. I murdered my own parents and framed my uncle for the murder. It was the best night of my life. I was free from their cage. And I couldn’t believe I had actually gotten away with it. But the police believed my story. After all, who wouldn’t believe a ten-year-old with rock-solid evidence?
After that night, they shipped me and my brother, Joshua, to our Aunt Mary and Uncle Tom. It was decided that they would take care of us for the rest of our adolescent lives. To tell the truth, it was great living with them. But as they say, all good things must come to an end, and they definitely did for me.
