He moved closer, and I panicked.

"--Do you want something to eat?" I interjected."Um… My mom won't mind."

I offset his train of thought; I could see the confusion painted across his pale face.

"Sure… I guess so? Why not?"

I twisted the knob and pushed, but the door didn't open. It was locked! Damn it! Mom must not be home yet--Shoot! Of all the days she could pick to be late, why today? She was probably trying to evade my father…

I quickly began to regret inviting him inside--

Slowly, I reached into my back pocket and pulled out my spare house key.

"You can sit the book bag there," I said, opening the door and pointing down beside the staircase.

I walked into the kitchen and pulled out some bread and lunchmeat. Jesse sat at the counter and stared across at me.

"Um… I don't work well when I'm being stared at," I grumbled.

"Fine. Then I won't stare," he snickered.

"I know you won't," I hissed back.

He walked over to the kitchen window. I made him a sandwich and sat it on a paper plate beside me. Then, I began making my own.

"There's yours," I said barely pointing to it. "You can put whatever on it. It's all in the cabinets up there…"

"Hm," he said, poking my shoulder, "What about this… mine too?"

I looked up for a second, "You're so lame, ugh…"

"It may be... But, you still didn't answer me," he said, moving closer.

I turned to look at him.

His face was stricken with sudden seriousness, and his brown eyes burned solemnly.

"I don't belong to anyone," I snapped and shied away.

He leaned closer, his lips just inches away from my own.

"Are you scared?"

"Hell no," I retorted snippily.

"Let's see what scares you then."

Shit... what did I just do? Damn it, Jen! You are scared! You do know that, right? Why didn't you just say yes? Say it while you still have a chance to take it back! Just scream Yes! Yes, I'm scared!! at the top of your lungs!

"Jesse, I--"

"Shhh," he said, putting two fingers to my lips.

And then he kissed me. I could feel that he wanted me to be frightened--maybe he had a fetish for it. But, I wasn't gonna let him get the best of me--not again.

I tried to kiss back with the same force… and for a while, I was actually out-doing him. But, I suppose he felt like his manhood was being tested or something… So, he swept the plates aside and lifted me up. Before I knew it, I was sitting on the countertop and he was pulling himself between my knees.

"Are you scared yet?"

Damn right I was scared--Kissing was one thing, but this--? This was something completely different.

I looked up at him and bit my bottom lip. A few strands of hair had fallen in front of his eyes. I thought about the consequences of my latest response, and this time, I chose wisely.

"Yes...I'm scared."

"Oh really?" he said grinning. "Jennifer Brighton, afraid? …I don't believe it."

He leaned a bit closer and grazed my neck with the brim of his lips; and for a short while, I felt that it could have been Cat's soft lips upon me, but I quickly remembered that it wasn't when feeling his teeth pinch at my skin.

But it felt--it just felt so good… I breathed a little harder and grabbed a hand full of his shirt. He ran his fingers up my leg, and I quivered.

"Jennifer Brighton… Are you scared?" he asked again more calmly.

"Yes," I said in almost a whisper..

"Are you sure? Speak up, Jen," he teased.

"Damn you, Jesse…"

"What was that?"

"I'm scared--Now get the hell away from me!" I yelled, pushing him away. "If this is your way of telling me you like me," I hissed, "you're sure as hell doing a bang-up job…"

I crossed my legs and nervously brushed my hair back into place.

"Am I really?" he said playfully running his hand along my leg.

"Get the hell out of my house," I growled through gritted teeth.

In my fit of rage, I actually sounded a lot like my mother… oh my god…

"If that's what you really want me to do, then sure," he said smiling.

Ooooh, I hated that--crooked, sinful grin!

"Yes, that's what I want you to do. Now, get out!"

"You sure? You're not gonna make me clean this mess I made first?"

I looked at the scattered bread and empty paper plates, then sighed into my hands.

"No, I've got it… Just leave, okay..."

He complied without a word.

After hearing the door shut, I slid down from the counter and walked over to the kitchen window. I pulled open the curtains and looked out at his figure disappearing into the grey haze of afternoon shadows.

After cleaning the mess, I sat around in the kitchen for a few hours and waited for mom to come home. When she didn't show, I went upstairs to take a shower. Then, I got into bed. I stared off into the distance at the dimly lit ceiling, admiring the shadows creeping across the dainty floral patterns above.

I could suddenly feel Jesse's fingers running along the length of each leg. I could scarcely feel his body gently pressed against mine and his lips trembling against the underside of my neck.

To find recluse, I rolled over onto my stomach and gently clasped the blankets between my fingers. The cool folds between the cotton sheets refrigerated my hot skin, and I found a kind of peace from his burning touch at last... but how long will it last?
