Rain pelted against the outside of the house. The sounds of the rain hitting the house resonated through the walls of the paper thin white walls. In the room, on the bed, lie a brunette girl sleeping. To the world the brunette girl, whose hair was slung every which way, particularly on her face, looked content. At least until the alarm clock started beeping lightly, getting louder with each beep.
Beep...
Beep...
Beep!
Beep!
The girl groaned, pushing the brunette hair out of her face.
"Ugh," she groaned and snuggled more into the neon pink duvets of the bed.
The day was a Monday, which could only mean one thing: school. Five more minutes passed before the brunette finally pulled herself up to a sitting position. She blinked a couple of times before getting out of the bed. She stumbled out of the bedroom and into another room across the hall.
The bathroom.
Water was soon running and the brunette was beginning to get ready for school. When the water felt just right to her, she jumped in, letting the water wake her more than she had already woken up. Her blue eyes slipped closed as she tried to get more sleep in at the same time.
Soon she was stepping out of the shower and plugging in the blow dryer. Her hair was curly, but it was more tame when dried. When done, she slipped back into her bedroom, unnoticed to any occupants in the house. She slipped on her navy blue Converse after pulling on a Led Zeppelin t-shirt with blue jeans. After, she started putting on eyeliner. Once done, she grabbed her black purse and neon colored backpack and headed outside. She groaned at the rain but slid into her car nonetheless.
Minutes later the teen was driving towards school. Soon she was pulling into the parking lot with others. Police sat in the parking lot, hoping to catch at least one kid with no seatbelt on. She parked close to the front of the school with the hope of not getting as soaked as others would get.
It didn't help at all.
She soon got inside the building, shaking at the temperature change from cold to colder.
"Emily!"
She jerked her head at a blond girl running for her. Emily smirked at the girl and met her halfway, hugging the other as if they hadn't seen one another in forever. In a way it was true.
"Hey, Katherine," Emily replied quietly.
"So I tried calling you this weekend, girl! But I didn't get any answer," Katherine said loudly. Emily was slightly good no one was around the two; it was always slightly awkward when the blond girl was around groups of people and was this loud. But, Emily couldn't give up her childhood cookie sharer.
"Yeah, sorry," the brunette replied, "I was busy cleaning the house all weekend. Mom refused to let me do anything else." Emily couldn't help but feel kind of bad. She was lying to her best friend, but it wasn't like she could tell the blond the truth.
In truth, Emily had a problem. Not that the girl admitted it, not even to herself, but it's still so.
While people felt Emily's makeup was slightly overboard—people thought a little black around the eyes was too much—Katherine's was even more so. She wore the black darker along with other exotic colors and glitter with it. But, the girl could pull it off, so Emily wasn't one to tell her to tone it down.
Emily closed her eyes as the blond huffed and rolled her green eyes.
"Well, this weekend we're getting together then! Seriously, heard this awesome party was happening; we just have to go!" Katherine exclaimed. Emily's eyes lit up at the word party, but the blond didn't see it. The two had started moving towards their lockers, as had others in the school.
Emily pushed her hair out of her face and pulled her books out of her backpack. She put books into the bottom of her locker before pulling out her first period's books. She hated school, but for the sake of her drunk mother's wishes, she completed her work, with A's every time. The ironic part was that Emily didn't even try to get the A's, they just happened. In Emily's words, "They happen because God has a magnifier on me and has decided I need to be some scholar I don't want to be. So, while I hope I get the F's on papers that everyone else gets, he adds a stick to it and makes it an A."
Katherine was the one of the two who actually tried to get the good grades, and Katherine knew this.
Emily winced as her friend slammed the baby blue locker shut. 'No matter how many Tylenol's I take, my headache is not going away soon, that's for sure,' Emily thought. She faintly grabbed a side of her head before slamming her own. The brunette and blond haired girls walked towards their first period class, settling into the normalcy of scheduled periods and teachers that made kids want to stab pencils in their hands to get out of the class. Emily would actually contemplate the ending of that, but didn't since she knew she'd be too sober and feel it. On top of that, the school would then call her mom, and it just wasn't worth the trouble of angering her mother more than she always was.
Emily groaned loudly with the other kids in the classroom as the bell rang, signaling first period. But, the only difference between them and Emily was that her groan was actually of physical pain, not of emotional pain.
