………………………… “You’re coming with me” Drew said looking at Matt and Luke “I just called Autumn to come met us and that Bret answered the phone” the color drained from Matt’s face.
“Coach how long before we need to be ready” Luke asked as the Football coach walked out of his office.
‘The other team has only just left their school so we have 20 minutes” he said checking the time. “Why”
“We have to go do something” Drew said panic edging in to his voice as he looked at the door.
“If this is just so you can go kiss a girl then I won’t be happy” Coach said shaking his head.
“No my sister’s in trouble and we need to find her” Matt said “And we need you to call 911 because there’s a guy that shouldn’t be here and he’s with her” Coach looked at the panic on the face of the three guys in front of him and nodded.
“Go I’ll call the police” he said waving them to the door before he walked back onto thins office and picked up the phone. The guys ran from the locker room I’ll go look by the field Luke said breaking off from them and running toward the crowded bleachers, Matt and Drew ran to the parking lot and stood looking round.
“Matt where the hell are they” Drew said looking at Matt “he said he was going to…” Matt put his hand on Drew’s shoulder.
“That’s why we need to find them as fast as we can” Matt said spotting a movement by the side of the gym he pointed “Over there” they both cleared the parking lot dodging between all the cars the say Bret pinning me down on the floor and look round as he heard the cleats on the concrete………………………………
………………………….. I felt Bret scrabble off me I opened my eyes in time to see Drew jump over the top of me and hurl himself full force in to Bret sending him into the wall. Matt following him and piling on top it was a blur of yelling and fists flying sirens sounding closer I felt arms round me as Bryony and Maggie skidded up Luke following suit and joining in with Drew and Matt. It was one of those train wreck moments you just couldn’t stop looking as two police cars screeched to a halt and 4 cops got out and ran over and started hauling three footballers from the bloody ball on the floor that was Bret.
“That’s what you get for pushing you luck” Drew yelled spitting out a mouthful of blood a crowd of people had made their way down from the field and had come over. “Don’t you ever think of going near Autumn again” another police car pulled up and Dad got out I groaned and buried my head against Bryony. He came over and stopped by me and crouched down.
“Autumn are you okay” he asked I looked up tears streaking my makeup and shook my head.
“He tried to rape me again” I said lifting up my shirt where you could see red marks from where he pulled open my jeans “He did it 2 weeks ago outside of a club and he wanted to do it again” Dad looked horrified “he’s also got drugs in his pocket he was going to sell here”.
“You bitch” Bret yelled as two of the cops hauled him to his feet “I should have choked the life out of you after I’d screwed you” Bryony let go of me and before anyone could stop her she flew at Bret bringing her knee up perfectly the cop’s let go of him and he crumpled into a heap on the floor.
“And your Mother should have drowned an evil little piece of shit like you after you were born” She spat at him making not only the cops smile a little but the crowd started clapping and cheering Matt put his bloody hand out and high fived her.
‘You’ll need to make a statement” Dad sighed looking at me I nodded “But we can take care of that tomorrow, you need to see a doctor”.
“No” I shrugged “Just make sure they don’t let him out”.
“He won’t be out for a while” Dad said putting his hand over mine it might take 24 hours before we process him” Dad got up and walked over to Matt. Drew came over to me and picked me up and hugged me to him.
“Baby I’m sorry” he sighed as I cried on his shoulder.
“How did we know he was going to be here” I sniffed looking up at him as Matt and the others came over and stood hugging both of us.
“Guys we still have a game” we all looked round to see Coach standing there “Get cleaned up and get clean jerseys and get on the field”. Drew opened his mouth to say something I tapped his chest.
“I’ll be good go play” I said .
“I don’t want …”
“”No one’s going to hurt me now are they” I sighed.
“I guess” he said putting his forehead against mine.
‘Drew we’ll make sure she’s okay” Maggie said putting her arm round me. He reluctantly agreed and walked away with the others and coach. “Come on lets go get you sorted out” Maggie sighed as Bryony came over walking us back into school and to the bathroom…………………………
…………………. We went back out to the bleachers half way in to the first ¼ and sat down after what had just happened I felt more relived than upset.
“You okay” B said nudging me I nodded.
“Nice ball shot by the way” I said smiling at her.
“Yeah well I did what I had to do” she winked “So what do you want to do tonight” I looked at her.
“What do you mean, it’s the homecoming dance” I shrugged.
“We thought you wouldn’t want to go after what Bret just tried to do” Maggie said looking at me then back at the field as Matt scored a perfect touchdown and the bleachers erupted.
“I know this will sound dumb, but I’m actually glad that he made such a dumb move and came here today” they both looked at me “He pushed his luck and got caught, and you guys talked my into buying a really cute dress that I don’t want to waste” they both hugged me.
“And it helps when your date is a hot as Drew” Maggie laughed nudging me “I keep thinking about him and the other two without their shirts on”……………………………………..
