…………………………….. By the time I got to Drew’s parents the snow had seemed to follow me and there was around 6 inches on the ground the porch light was on, I got out of the car and trudged through the snow as Mike opened the front door.
“Hi honey” he smiled as I banged my feet on the porch.
“Hi” I said he stepped back to let me in I pulled off my sneakers and pulled off my socks stuffing them back inside my shoes I followed him into the kitchen were the smell of coffee made me feel warm Becca looked up from the computer.
“You made good time considering the snow” she smiled getting up and hugging me.
“Autumn you want some coffee” Mike asked.
‘Please” I nodded. “I’m sorry for keeping you guys up”.
“Hey don’t worry about it” Becca sighed as Mike brought us both a coffee “It gave me a head start on dinner prep for tonight”.
“And we’d rather you came to us then sit worrying about it” Mike said sitting down
“Thank you” I wrapped my hands round my cup “It keeps running round my head why he said it he knew where I was he was mad because I didn’t answer my phone”.
“Cassie said you and she didn’t sit down all evening” Becca said
“We didn’t the first time we did was when we got in our cars to drive home and by then it was already after 11 and I wasn’t going to call anyone not even Drew I was 20 minutes from home”
“I think you are both so stressed out with his schedule and school and how many hours have you worked in the past 2 weeks” Mike asked I pulled out my phone and pulled up the planner.
“Wow” I said looking at my hours “158 in 14 days”.
“That’s a lot compared to a normal week say in April” Becca said refilling my cup. “When was the last time you and Drew had dinner together”.
“The first Saturday in December” I said shaking my head.
“When was the last time you went to bed at the same time” I looked at Becca.
“Probably that same night” I sighed, it dawned on me we hadn’t had any time together in the past 3 weeks when I was home he was either in school or at training and when he was at home I was working. I groaned and pushed my fingers through my hair “damn it”
“These things happen Autumn” Mike said rubbing my back I looked at him “You learn and get through it”.
“It was wrong for me to storm off” I started.
“No it was wrong of Drew to say what he did if it had been me he’d have been slapped round the face” Becca smiled getting up from the table. “I’ll go grab you something to wear I have some spare P.J.’s” she walked out of the room.
“And now you see why I try not to argue with my wife” Mike laughed “you guys will be okay”. I looked at the clock 7.30 the others would be getting on the plane in Florida I hadn’t slept in just over 24 hrs but I wasn’t tired, Becca walked back in with some Fleece P.J. bottoms and pone of Drew’s old High school hoodies.
“Go have a nice hot shower and get changed” she smiled I nodded and took the things from her I walked up to Drew’s old room and in to his bathroom getting into a steaming hot shower, I got out and dressed putting on the radio a song came on that made me sit down and listen bringing tears to my eyes as I looked at a picture from mine and Drew’s wedding his mom had framed and put on the dresser. I pulled my back in to a pony and went down stairs All of Drew’s brothers were sitting round the breakfast table.
“So we weren’t hearing things” Jon said as he got up and hugged me the shower in Drew’s room was running. “And I told you that you should have married the right brother not the wrong one” he laughed.
“He’s an idiot for saying what he did” Aiden added.
“Yeah well we both did things we shouldn’t” I shrugged, I walked over to my purse and pulled out my phone and downloaded the song I’d heard before.
“New phone cool” Aiden said sitting on the stool next to me. “I-phone nice” he grinned “I want one for Christmas”
“Gift from the boss” I smiled.
“You or Aunt Cassie” he asked
“She got me one and I got her one” I laughed getting up I pulled a pad and a pen from my purse and walked up the stairs I put my phone and headphones on the dresser next to the picture and wrote a note. I opened the closet door Drew’s letterman jacket was hanging in there I put it on and walked down stairs.
“I’m going to go out for a while” I said going over to Becca.
“Okay where”.
“To see Mom and Dad and Sarah” her face softened as she nodded.
“You want me to go with you or one of the boys” she asked.
“No I’ll be fine I just need to get some flowers first” I smiled “could you do me a favor and if Drew gets here before I get back tell him I left him a note in his room”.
“I will” she nodded again I picked up the keys for the car and slipped on my sneakers. “we have the same shoe size borrow my snow boots” she called out pointing to them by the door.
“Thank you” I grinned putting them on and tying the laces it felt so weird after wearing mainly flip flops for months I walked out of the house and got in the car……………………………………………………
…………………………….. “Hey they’re all here” Aiden shouted opening the front door as Two cars pulled into the driveway and everyone got out led by Tori screaming and jumping in the closet snow bank.
“Honey wait till you have you snow things on” Joe groaned. Drew bent down and pulled her out of the snow dangling her upside down making her laugh like crazy. He turned her round as Becca and Mike walked out of the house.
“Aiden go get Tori a towel” Becca laughed as She hugged Cassie.
“Hey Mom” Drew sighed. “Where’s Autumn”.
“She’s out but she told me to tell you there’s a note up in your room” Becca sighed shaking her head at him.
“You don’t need to say anything these guys have been giving me shit for the past 4 hours” he said as Trent and Leah grinned “He bent and kissed his mom on the cheek before heading for the stairs. Drew pushed open his bedroom door and looked round he saw the phone and the note he picked them up
