Black Roses, Silver Thorns Prologue

I couldn’t believe it. My Kairi Rosella was a Vampire. That did explain why she ran out of the movie theater. I picked up the phone, called Angel and Cameron, then turned on the TV. Nothing good was on to keep my mind off of Kairi. How could she all of a sudden tell me she was a Vampire? I groaned. She was the girl of my dreams. I heard a knock at the door. A few seconds later Cameron and Angel walked into the room.

“Aw Kataro I’m so sorry for you,” Angel came over and hugged me. I began to cry. Yes it was my fault she was gone but I didn’t want to admit that to Cameron.

“Man why did you let her go like that? She’s a Vampire, so what. I’m sure she didn’t hurt anyone. She ate Human food didn’t she?” I nodded. Cameron was furious with me. Angel let go of me.

“I sort of agree with Cameron. I didn’t pick up anything bad when I was with her. She wasn’t a threat. She is alive Kataro. She would have to have a heart to love a guy like you,” Angel looked at me in disbelief. I couldn’t believe it. My best friends were siding with a Vampire.

“She’s a Vampire. We could never be,” I sighed. Cameron glared at me.

“Man you really are stupid. She was a great girl. Out of Vampires, Humans, or Mermaids she was the best girl you could ever find. She was sweet and honest,” Cameron kept making me feel worst. I really liked Kairi but what if she suddenly had a thirst for Human blood? What would happen then?

“You want me to go after her don’t you?” Cameron and Angel nodded.

“Please go set things right. Soon it will be too late,” Angel whispered.

“What do you mean it will be too late?” Angel handed me an envelope.

“Dude that was on your front porch so read it,” Cameron said. I opened the envelope and read the letter.

“No…no,” I gasped. I re read the note a third time just to make sure I wasn’t dreaming. The note read:

Dear Kataro,

Or whatever your name is. I am sorry to inform you that Kairi and I are getting married. I could tell you really liked my fiancé but she was promised to me. Thank you so much for letting me follow your truck to your humble home. I am being generous and inviting you to the wedding. I love seeing people suffer so I mine as well see you suffer too. The wedding will take place at the hotel ballroom. Be sure that you aren’t late. The ceremony starts at 7:00pm. I know how much you would love to see it. You can bring three others if you must. I do hope you come.

I couldn’t believe my eyes. He was going to try and marry her and he invited me. I could bring three guests. Then it hit me like a brick wall.

“Angel can you take me to visit Ai? I have an hour to get her help. Please?” Angel fidgeted.

“Ai won’t be so happy to hear-“

“Good it’s settled! Let’s go now!” Cameron shook his head and followed Angel and I to my truck.

“Let’s just hope she won’t kill us,” Cameron muttered under his breath. I started up the engine and almost flew down the highway. Angel kept shouting directions until we finally reached Ai’s small shop. Princess Ai was the princess of Hell. She roamed among the Human world helping people like Kairi and I. We walked into the shop. A pale young woman with long brown hair and bright green eyes came out and studied us.

“Ah. Hello Kataro. I am Princess Ai. I know you have come for a way to rescue Kairi. I will aid you for a small fee. Once Kairi is safe, you must die,” Princess Ai whispered to me.

“Kataro you idiot don’t do it! Psychics are bad karma!” Angel shouted.

“Yeah what she said. We’ll get you a puppy or something,” Cameron shouted. I shook my head.

“I’ll do anything you ask. As long as Kairi is safe because it’s my fault she is in danger in the first place,” I looked down at my feet as Ai drew up a contract. Ai handed it to me and I read it, signed it, and read it again. It read something like:

I Kataro Jeremy Ishiyama agree to give Princess Ai of Hell and the eternal underworld my soul once Kairi Rosella Robinson is safe. I understand that there are no return or exchange policies. Princess Ai has full right to refund or deny services and help.

Once the deal was signed and sealed I turned to Cameron and Angel. “I’m sorry you guys but she means the world to me Vampire or not. Now let’s go you three. We’ve got a bride to save,” Princess Ai, Cameron, Angel and I piled into my truck. I floored the truck so it was going at maximum speed. We were running out of the time for the wedding would start in thirty minutes. We turned off of a highway ramp and kept driving. I hoped we would make it in time. I wasn’t going to watch Kairi get married unless I was in the ceremony right along side of her.
