Today is my wedding day. So I guess today is the day I die, figuratively of course. It isn’t also that my soon to be husband is ugly or a creep. He isn’t. I just don’t know how I cold fall in love with him. I don’t know how anyone could love an arrogant, six foot zero, beach god, his name for himself, I know I can’t. I catch a glimpse of him in the hallway as he passes my dressing room. I had never seen him wear anything but a muscle shirt and blue jeans. Seeing him in a tuxedo made me laugh out loud. My mother glared at me. “Kairi Rosella Robinson,” my mother, Lily Marie Summers, hissed, “you are a young lady to be married. Please act your age.” In reality, I was acting my age. I turned sixteen eight days ago.
“Yes Lily,” I sighed. I didn’t want to leave this room. Once I did, I wasn’t coming back. From here I had to walk to the altar, kiss Daniel, and then it was off to the honeymoon suite and Daniel and I would be there alone for the first few hours after our marriage. I stepped away from my mother. I didn’t want to be near her. So I decided to pretend I was checking my dress in the mirror. It was very pretty I admit. The dress was snow white with a v-neck and little scallops at the bottom. The sleeves were a light see through material. I didn’t know what it was called. My eyes went to my neck. On a silver chain there was a silver rose pendant. My hair matched the dress completely. I had natural silver hair. My eyes brought my whole face into focus. My eyes were natural violet. I heard the door open and I felt a hand on my shoulder.
A cheery, airy voice whispered in my ear, “You look beautiful, Kairi. Just like the sea, only white and pure.” I turned around and smiled. It was Jessica, my natural blue haired sister. I wrapped my arms around her and gave her a huge hug. After a few seconds I let her go. She was the one that looked beautiful. Her blue hair was in curly ringlets. Her dress was gorgeous. It was midnight black with a silver sash.
“Thanks Jess. I bet you will look beautiful in three years when you get married to Darien Thorn.” I winked. My sister had the hugest crush on him. He was a transfer from Japan to the Vampire school. They were arranged to be married. Jessica blushed a deep scarlet. So now there was actually color in her pale face.
“Th…thanks.” Jessica stammered. She got a devilish grin on her face. “I almost forgot why I’m here.” My stomach did a summersault.
“What are you here for?” I asked. My hands were shaking. My sister started rocking on her tip-toes and heels. Her heels, I noticed were like mine, made out of glass “Jess…” I was starting to get impatient. I wanted to know why she was here before I had to walk down the aisle. Jessica giggled. I noticed when she did that her Amber eyes started shining.
“Someone is here to see you before you walk down the aisle.” My mouth dropped open and I quickly closed it because Lily started glaring at me. I didn’t know who it could be. My whole family, including my dad, was here.
“Who is here?” I asked her. Jessica gave me a mischievous smile.
“Kairi I’ll be right back!” My mom called as she walked out of the room. Her red heels clacked against the marble floor. Was everyone wearing the color of blood? If they were, I would be sick.
“Well who is it!” I snapped at Jessica once my mom was gone. I was tired of the cute crap she was pulling.
“Uhh...well…I didn’t think you would want to know…considering what happened and all.” Jessica grinned.
“It’s not...” I didn’t get a chance to finish my sentence. I heard the door open behind me. The air filled with the smell of roses and aftershave with a hint of cologne. I suddenly felt dizzy. I looked over and saw my sister smiling.
“Hey Kairi your silver hair looks really pretty tonight. Is it a new style?” My heart skipped a beat and I turned around.
“Hey Alex.” My heart started skipping in my chest. He looked good. He was wearing a white tuxedo with a red rose pined to the jacket. In his hand was a bouquet of red and white roses. Then I noticed one at the very back of the bouquet. The rose petals were midnight black. The stem was grass green and the thorns were as silver as my hair. Alex held the bouquet out to me.
“For the lovely bride to be.” I blushed almost as scarlet as Jessica did when I mentioned Darien.
“Thank you.” I took the bouquet from him. I lightly brushed my fingers over the black rose.
“You like that one?” A smile came across Alex’s lips. I smiled and nodded.
“I thought you would. It is just like you, dark and dangerous.” Alex smiled and turned pink.
“Aww…Alex.” I wanted to wrap my arms around his neck and kiss him full on the mouth. But I couldn’t.
“Stupid Daniel, stupid wedding! I want my Alex back” I thought.
Alex and I looked at each other for a moment. I sighed and put the flowers on the stand next to the mirror I had been looking into to check my dress.
“Alex, you know I didn’t want it to end that way. It isn’t my fault. My mother just wants what’s best for me. I really wish things were different.” A tear rolled down my cheek. I turned around. Jessica must have slipped out a long time ago because she was nowhere to be found.
“Kairi…I…I know. Duty comes before you heart. I get that now.”
“What?” I didn’t want to kiss him anymore. Now, I wanted to just slap him.
“Kairi, if I were you I would have left this place hours ago. I would have told my parents to back the hell off. I would have actually done something.” Alex shrugged.
“I didn’t do anything? Alex I begged and pleaded for days. But oh I forgot. The wedding was arranged hours after I turned sixteen. I am sorry I am actually respectful of my parents.” I snapped at him. Alex gave me a weak smile. I frowned. He wrapped his arms around my neck. My eyes opened wide.
“Alex…” I whispered. I couldn’t protest any farther because before I knew it, he kissed me. It was the same taste as before, chocolate and French fries. Did I mention Alex is just like me? After a minute he let me go. My lips still tingled.
“Kairi, come with me. Please.” Alex pleaded with me. I looked deep into his mint green eyes. Hoping he was seeing sadness in my violet eyes.
“Alex, I can’t…you know that. Go back to London. Marry Emily. Remember the girl your parents picked for you? Please. I know what I am doing.” A tear rolled down my cheek. Not because I still loved him. It was because I didn’t. I had to tell him.
“You don’t love Daniel do you?” Alex sounded worried. It looked like tears welled up in his eyes.
“No. But Alex I don’t love you either.” Alex frowned. He nodded.
“I’ll be in touch. I’ll go back to London and propose to Emily.” He spun around on his heels and walked out the door. His strawberry blond hair fluttered behind him. He still didn’t cut his hair. It was down to his shoulder. My heart shattered into a million tiny pieces.
Thirty minutes after Alex left, my mom and Jessica came back in. “It’s time,” Lily, my mom, whispered. We walked out of the room and down the hall to where we met up with my dad. The hallway had a marble floor. The walls were white with little carving of angels with wings. The trim was oak wood. I thought it was beautiful. We walked down the hall. We ran into my bridesmaids and some caterers.
“I hate my wedding” I thought. The three of us walked to the end of the hallway and turned right. In this section was the back of the doors I would soon be walking through to meet Daniel.
“Angel,” Noah, my dad said to me. “you grew up so fast.”
“Thanks dad.” I smiled. He was wearing a black tuxedo. He cut his green hair so that it was ear length. His soft grey eyes were worrisome. It was soon time. My dad took his place as Daniel’s best man. I had yet to see what he looked like.
“Here comes the bride” started up on the piano. I held my breath as the doors opened for me to walk out. I saw Jessica standing with my dad. She had been my flower girl. I walked up the aisle at a very brisk but slow pace. I didn’t want to spend the night in a room with Daniel. Alone. When I got to the altar I looked at Daniel. He was handsome. He looked different then when I last saw him. Then again all Vampire men had to look like this for their wedding.Midnight black hair like Jessica’s dress, Alex’s rose, and my heart. His eyes, I noticed, were ice blue. They looked as cold as my heart felt.I just knew his eyes reflected his heart. Concidering eyes are the window to the soul. His skin was pale, but not white.
“Dearly beloved we are gathered here today to bind this man and this woman in holy matrimony. Let us begin in a word of prayer for this man and this woman. Dear Lord we pray for Kairi Robinson and Daniel Andrews. Be with them in all their preparations and on their wedding day. Give them your love in their hearts throughout their married life together, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.” Everyone in the pew then said, “Amen.”
Then the preacher started preaching about true love. He put his worn brown leather bible on the podium. He turned a few pages and started speaking again. “First Corinthians chapter thirteen verse four says Love is patient; love is kind and envies no one. Love is never boastful, nor conceited, nor rude; never selfish, not quick to take offense. There is nothing love cannot face; there is no limit to its faith, its hope, and endurance. In a word, there are three things that last forever: faith, hope, and love; but the greatest of them all is love.”
The preacher paused for a moment and then continued. “Love ladies and gentlemen is the reason we are gathered here today. These two people love each other enough to dedicate their entire lives to one another.”
“That is news to me” I thought.
“I hope these two young folks live a long and happy life together. Now it is time for the vows.” The preacher turned to look at Daniel continued speaking, “Mr. Daniel Andrews would you like to say your vows?”
“Yes, I would love to.” Before I knew it, Daniel took my right hand into his. “I, Daniel Andrews , take you, Kairi Robinson ,to be my wife, to have and to hold from this day forward; for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part, according to God's holy law. In the presence of God I make this vow.” I looked at him blankly. He then slid a gold ring on my ring finger on my left hand, right above my engagement ring.
Then the pastor turned to me. “Kairi Robinson, would you like to say your vows?” I sighed.
“Yes, Pastor Hiro, I would.” I sighed again. Daniel let go of my right hand. I took his right hand into my own and began, “I, Kairi Robinson, take you, Daniel Andrews, to be my husband, to be my husband, to have and to hold from this day forward; for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love, cherish, and to obey, till death do us part, according to God’s holy law. In the presence of God I make this vow.” I took the gold ring that Pastor Hiro held out to me. I almost slipped the ring onto his left ring finger when I heard Daniel whisper to me.
“You know Kairi, the sooner we get this over with, the sooner we can go to the honeymoon suite and drink Human’s blood. You like Human’s blood don’t you?” Daniel smiled at me.
“You…drink…Human…blood, Daniel?!” I accused him.
