“Heather what’s wrong?’’ Asked Chris, the boy she despised. He was looking at her with a look of genuine concern. Heather was kind of taken aback and looked at him surprised. “Uh well, you know, alls fair in love and war right?” She shrugged “Love sucks.” She said with a smile.
“Awww, do you need a hug?” Chris teased. She looked up just in time for him to wrap his arms around her. Heather was stunned, she was definitely not expecting that. It was so sweet of him, she thought. “Don’t worry, it’ll be alright.” He said, then turned toward his friend on his other side. Heather just sat there. Wow, what a sweetheart…
It was a week later and Kyle was no longer a part of her life. And just as she had suspected, it didn’t really seem to have mattered much to him. She went with the “we can still be friends” route, to which he replied… “Can we still screw around.” Heather didn’t even bother with an answer, she grabbed her bag and left him there on the basketball court where they were playing a game of 21. Who needed guys anyway, there just a hassle. She stopped at her locker to put her bag away and head out for lunch when her friend Katie came up to her.
“Guess what I just found out?” She said with more excitement than was necessary.
“What’s that?” Despite everything, Heather was actually in a really good mood. Being guy free seems to have a positive effect on my attitude she thought to herself.
“Chris Ford likes you!” She squealed. Heather looked at her in surprise that she was so excited.
“So?” She asked looking at her with a smile. Katie looked taken aback, most of the girls in the schools wanted to date him. He hadn’t had a girlfriend or gone out with anybody since his last girlfriend cheated on him over a year ago. He was well known around the school, got invited to almost every party, was cute looking and very smart despite his “Stoner/Skater” personality. She laughed at Katie, she had the most cute, almost offended look on her face. “Look Katie, he probably likes a lot of girls, I was probably just a name he mentioned to someone.” To be honest she didn’t care if he really liked her more than all the other girls combined, she didn’t like him. He just wasn’t her type. They were too different.
Katie winked at me
“We’ll see.” She teased. She decided to keep it to herself that Chris had asked Katie about her, knowing she was Heather’s best friend. “Do you like him?”
Heather didn’t know what to say, she didn’t like him, but she no longer hated him. That day he hugged her was still fresh in her mind. She had thought he was a thoughtless prick who only cared about how cool he was and how much everyone liked him. When he hugged her, she seen a different side of him she hadn’t seen before. He was a person with a cute sense of humour and a genuine heart. Even Katie hadn’t asked her what was wrong that day. She hadn’t even told Katie that she was breaking up with Kyle until 2 days after the fact. Katie had actually been a little stung. Maybe that was why she had been so excited about Chris she mussed.
