Dangerous Trails

Chapter 10

I woke up to find that Khloe is not in bed with me. I rub my eyes and look at the clock, it's 8:45. I get out of bed and go in to the bathroom. I wash my face and take a shower. Once I am dressed I go out to find Khloe. I almost knock on the boys door when I hear voices coming from around the corner. I walk over and peek to see who it is. I have to cover my mouth with my hand so they don't hear my gasp. It's Khloe and Jace, they were kissing! I flipped back around and head back towards the room hoping they didn't see me. I can't believe she didn't tell me, what the hell. Just before I get to my room, Kyle comes out of his. He smiles and walks over to me. " Hey, babe! " he says before kissing me. " You will never guess what I just saw. " I whisper. " What? " he asks. " Khloe and Jace making out! " you answer. " Wow, he said he liked her but I didn't know she felt the same way." he said. " Wait when did he say that? " I asked. " Um, a couple of weeks ago, I think. " he answers. Hmm, I think to myself. Just then Khloe and Jace come walking up behind us. They act all innocent saying they went to go see where we could get something to eat.

Once everyone is packed up, we head back out.  On the rode we all discuss what we are going to do once we got to Red Cliff. The guys said that we needed to be careful because we didn't know if they had guns or not. We passed a sign that said Red Cliff 10 miles and my stomach turned. Kyle noticed I was uneasy so he grabbed my hand. Trey pulls off the exit and turns into a small diner. We all get out and go in. The diner was pretty empty except for an older couple. " When we get to this place, whatever it is, we need to be careful, we don't know what will be there waiting for us. " Trey says. " I have to go to the bathroom. " I say. " Yeah, me too." says Kyle. We get up and head for the bathroom. When I am done, I wait for Kyle. After about 15 minutes I knocked on the door. No answer. I turned the knob and went in. Before I could scream I had a large hand over my mouth and a blindfold over my eyes, then I blacked out.

When I finally came too, I didn't know where I was. I blinked a few times. I was in a dark room, with only a small window by the ceiling. i looked around frantically for Kyle. He was sitting on a chair across from me. He had some blood on the side of his head. He noticed I was awake and smiled a weak smile at me. I went to get up but then realized I was tied to the chair. Before I could say anything to him the door flew open and the two men from the cabin walk in. " Well hello beautiful! " said one of the men sarcastically. He walked over to me and took some of my hair in his hand. I shook my head to get it out of his hand and he just laughed, and awful laugh. " So pretty boy here won't tell us what you and your little friends are up to. " he says, kicking Kyle's chair. " Maybe you can be persuaded to enlighten us." He walked over to me and put his face really close to mine. He smelled like beer and gasoline. His face was rough and had many wrinkles. " Get away form her! " Kyle sneers at him. He turns around and walks over to Kyle. " Why do you care so much about her, are you two a couple or something? " he yells. Kyle just looks away from him. He turns back to me, seeing the look in my eyes answers his question. " Well talk some since into him, or we might just have to get ride of one of you! " he barks at me. He then leaves the room and the other man follows.

I scanned the room to see what all is in it. Over on the table there was a knife. I bent over and the chair came off the ground. I hopped over to the table and set the chair down next to it. i leaned over and got the knife in my mouth. I dropped it into my lap and got it to my hand. I went at the rope for just a few minutes and then the ropes came loose and I stood up. " These guys must not tie people to chairs that often. " I laughed. I looked up and Kyle was staring at me like I had just done a magic trick or something. I walk over and untie him. Then I examined his cut. " How the hell did you do that? " he asked. " Well growing up with Trey wasn't that easy, it involved a lot of playing cowboys and Indians, and I always ended up tied to a chair. " I explained. " Oh. " he responded. I looked for something to wipe away the blood but there was nothing. " We need to get out of here. " I said. " I think we might be able to get out the window." Kyle said as he walked over to look at it.

I went to check if the door was locked, it was. As I was standing there I heard the men talking. I pressed my ear up against the door to see if i could here what they were saying. " I don't know how much longer we can keep them there, the police have already been twice to ask questions. " said one of them. " Unless these kids have the stuff we need, they stay as long as I say they do. " the other shouted. I couldn't tell if they were talking about us or the missing couple. " I don't get any of this, what do they want with that couple? " I whispered to Kyle. " I was looking at those papers last night, there was a bunch of receipts, they were all for a small shop in town, but the stuff on them didn't add up. " he said. " What do you mean? " I asked. " Well there was a lot of random office supplies on there, but the prices were ridicules! " he started, " like sixty bucks for a some pens, and over a hundred for ink, I think that they were hiding what they actually bought with the office supplies names. " " The man that is missing, was the owner of the store, and guess who worked for him." he said. " Who? " I asked. " Mrs. Barry! " he said. " She must have been doing something under the bosses nose, and they probably think it was the guy and not Mrs. Barry. " I said. " But why would they have gone to her house, if they didn't know it was her? " he questioned. " Maybe there was something at the store that said her name on it or the guy told them her name, that probably why she ran, the guilt of knowing she is putting them through this. " I answered.

Just then the door flew open. The men saw we weren't in our seats and got really angry. The bigger of the two walked towards me, but Kyle stepped between him and I. " Oh, so you do like the girl! " he laughed. " what the hell do you to think your are doing, and how did you get untied? " asked the other man. " Some idiot left a knife in the room, and I am good with my hands. " I stated. The bigger one looked at the other and you could see he was angry. " John I thought I told you to make sure there was nothing in here! " he yelled. That must mean the bigger one is Andrew I thought to myself. " Where are the papers! " Andrew yelled at us. " We don't know what you are talking about. " answered Kyle. Andrew lunged and Kyle and pushed him out of the way. He fell to the floor. " Kyle! " I screamed. I went to go to him, but Andrew grabbed my shoulders. Kyle started to get up but John punched him. Kyle fell back to the floor. " Stop hurting him! " I screamed. Tears started to fall down my face. " We will stop when you tell us what we want to know. " he said. He started to drag me out of the room. " No, Kyle, no! " I screamed, as I beat his back with  my fist. But he shut the door behind us.
