Dangerous Trails

Chapter 6

We sat around the campfire for awhile. Jace tried to tell a scary story, but it turned into him rambling on about something I really don't remember what. Kyle and I sat on the swing talking. After seeing those men on the water I was a little jittery, but sitting on the swing with Kyle was helping calm my nerves. " So where did you guys run off to on the skidoos? " asked Trey. " Oh, um...I took Kyle to the rope swing. " I stammered.We had a secret beach on the other side of the lake. When we were younger our dad put up a rope there, it was our favorite place to be. " Oh, is the rope still up? " Khloe asked. " Yeah, someone reinforced it with abigger one." I answered. They went back to talking about scary stories. " I'm cold, do you want to go up to the house? " I asked. " Sure. " he smiled. I grabbed my stuff and we headed up to the house. I pulled open the slider and we walked in. I went over to the bar and pulled out the blender. " Do you want a smoothie? " I asked. " What kind? " he smirked. " Hah, um...we have bananas and strawberries. " I replied. " Sounds good. " he said. I cut up the fruits, and grabbed the Ice Cream and milk from the fridge. As I was making the smoothies I caught Kyle watching me. I smiled at him and we both laughed.

I filled two cups and joined him on the couch. " Do you think any of them know? " he asked. " Know what? " I returned. " That we have a thing? " he replied. " Oh, I don't know, I guess we have been hanging out a lot,but I think they would have said something if they thought anything of it. " I said. " Yeah." he laughed. We sat there in silence. It wasn't that awkward silence, it was the kind where you are comfortable with someone and you don't need to talk. He finished his smoothie and got up to put it by the sink. When he came back over to the couch he sat closer to me than he had before. I sat my glass down on the table, and turned towards him. He laid his hand on my thigh. I looked down at the lake to see if any of them could see in to the basement, but the trees blocked the view. I looked back at him and he was looking at me with those eyes that made you melt inside. He leaned in and kissed me on my forehead. Just as he leaned back against the couch the slider opened, and Trey, Jace, and Khloe walked in. Kyle pulled his hand off my thigh, and slid away a little. I wonder what he was going to do if they hadn't walked in.

" Well, I'm going to turn in. " I yawned. I got up from the couch and headed up stairs, and Khloe followed me. Once we go to the top of the stairs I started to head towards my room but Khloe stopped me. " Is there something you want to tell me? " she smirked. " I don't know what you are talking about. "I responded. " Really Cali, how long have we been sisters, oh yeah since birth, I know when your lying to me. " she stated.I grabbed her hand and led her to my room. I shut the door andpulled her over to the couch and sat down. " Ok, sothis morning when we were at the mall, Kyle kissed me." I confessed. " What! " she screamed. " Shut up! " I hissed. " Sorry. " she whispered. " It's ok " I continued, " we kind of have a thing now.." " Why didn't you tell me sooner? " she asked. " Well it just happenedtoday, and there was never a time when we were really alone, and were tryingto keep it a secret from Trey and Jace. " I explained. " Ok, well your secret is safe with me. " she smiled. We hugged and she left to go to her room. Itook a shower, changed into my PJ's and jumped into bed. Ilaid there awake for awhile thinking aboutthe day. After about an hour I drifted to sleep.

When I woke up the sun was shinning through the windows. I rolled over and looked at the clock on my nightstand. It was9:30. I stretched and gotout of bed. I walkedinto my closet and grabbed a sweatshirt.After I brushed my teeth I headed downstairs. When I emerged into the kitchen I was overwhelmed with the smell of bacon. Kyle was sitting at the counter eating, as I walked by he looked up and gave me a smile. Khloe and Jace were sitting at the dinning room table playing cards. I walked around the counter and joined Kyle. Trey got me a plate of food , and set it down in front of me. i eat what was on the plate and put it into the sink. Trey cleaned up the kitchen then headed downstairs to take a shower. " Did you sleep good? " I asked Kyle. " Yeah, how about you? " he returned. " Wonderfully. " I smiled. We chatted for awhile until Jace walked over. " Kyle, Trey and I were planning on going for a hike while the girls go to the store, you in?" he asked. " Yeah, sounds good to me! " he confirmed. Jace left the kitchen and Kyle followed him. Khloe and I talked about what we were going to get and then left to get dressed.

I was in my closet when I heard a knock on my door. I emerged from my closet to find Kyle standing in the doorway. " Can I come in? " he asked. " Yeah. " I answered, asI went back into my closet. He followed me and propped himself up against my door frame. " So, what are you and Khloe going to do after you go shopping? " he asked. " Oh, I don't know, probably go out on the quads or something. " I answered. I opened my top drawer and grabbed a bra. Normally when my brothers friends were around, Khloe and I made it a point of not letting them catch a glimpse, but it was different now with Kyle. I pulled my clothes off of the hangers and headed to the bathroom. As I slid past Kyle he grabbed my waist. I stopped and looked up at him. He smiled and leaned down and kissed me. I tangled my fingers in his hair, and dropped my clothes to the ground. He wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me tight to his chest. I would have kept this up for longer, but Jace yelled for Kyle. ' One sec! ' he yelled back. He kissed me again, and left. I stood there for a minute smiling. I grabbed my clothes off the ground and walked into my bathroom to finish getting ready.

I waited for Khloe on the couch. As I was waiting the boys came upstairs. Trey and Jace went out to the garage, and Kyle walked over to me. " We are going on a trail over on the other side of the lake. " he smiled. " Oh, I love that trail, it goes by a waterfall, and it walks along a river. " I exclaimed. " Cool, I wish you were coming with, it sounds romantic. " he grinned. I smiled and laughed. I stood up and gave him a hug before he headed out to the garage. Khloe finally came downstairs and we went out to the jeep. I jumped into the drivers seat and rolled down the window. Trey walked over, " So you're going to the store in the next town over? " he asked. " Yeah, it's about 20 minutes away. "I stated. " Ok, be safe. " he said. as they headed over to the paths Kyle waved. I smiled and waved back and then we left.

As we drove we talked about Kyle, and Khloe brought up Jace. She said that he had been really nice to her, and that she was starting to like him. We talked about boys and such until we go to the store. I parked and we headed inside. As we were walking down the aisles it reminded me of when we were kids and our grandma would take us here. We got tons of junk food, and some real food for dinners. we were walking down the last aisle and I almost screamed. At the end down by the house supplies were the two men that we had been seeing. Khloe saw them too and we turned around and got out of that aisle as fast as we could. Once safely on the other side we stopped. " Why do we keep seeing them everywhere? " I said. " First the gas station, on the lake, and now here. " " I don't know but it's starting to freak me out. ' she muttered. We headed to the front of the store, checked out and left. As we were loading the car, the two men came out of the store and headed over to a black suburban. We jumped into the car, and I got out of that parking lot fast. i glanced in the rear view mirror, and they were behind us. I speed up a little. We were getting a little nervous. They followed us almost the entire way to our turn off. About a mile from the driveway they turned down a dirt road. I was happy they weren't behind me anymore, but also confused. That dirt road led to nowhere, or so I thought.

I pulled into the garage this time because that door was closer to the kitchen. I noticed that the boys were already back because their packs were on the ground next to the door. We grabbed some bags, and headed in to the house. I knew something was wrong the minute I saw Trey putting ice into a bag at the fridge. " What's that for? " I asked. " Oh, um Kyle fell when were walking and twisted his leg. " he explained. I set down the bags and ran to the living room. Kyle was sitting with his leg propped up on the couch. When he saw me he smiled. " Are you ok? " I asked. " Yeah, it's not broken I just turned it the wrong way. " he smiled. " I'll go help Khloe with the bags. " said Jace. As Jace left Trey came in with the ice. He handed it to Kyle and sat down in the chair across from him. " Well your leg will be fine, you should just stay off of in for a couple of hours. " Trey said. After they were done putting the groceries away Khloe and Jace joined us in the living room. " We saw those guys at the store. " Khloe commented. " Yeah, they were by the cleaning supplies, and when we left they followed us, but they turned off at that dirt road. " I added. " This is getting weird, I don't get why we see them everywhere we go. " said Jace. " Well from now on, no offense laddies, you need to always have one of us with you. " directed Trey. I gave Kyle a look and he smiled. ' Well on a lighter note, I want to go out on the quads, whose with me? " asked Khloe. " I'll go. " said Jace. " I'll stay with Kyle, if you want to go Trey. " I said hoping he would go. ' Are you sure? " he asked. " Yeah! " I said. " Ok. " he replied. They got up and headed out to the quads.

Finally Kyle and I got some alone time. I made sure he was comfortable, and then I scooted up next to him, resting my head on his shoulder. He clicked on the TV and flipped to the local news. The reported was talking about a couple that had gone missing earlier that month. Their house was a couple of miles from us. I slid my arm under his and snuggled closer. He flipped it to the Boomerang channel, and we watched cartoons. After the show was done he clicked off the TV " I'm hungry, how about you? " he asked. " Yeah, I could go for some food. " I replied. I stood up and helped him off of the couch. We walked into the family room that is attached to the kitchen and I helped him into a chair. I walked into the kitchen, and started to get food out. " I feel bad for the family of that couple. ' he announced. ' Yeah, it's always sad when people go missing. " I answered.I wondered to myself if those two men had anything to do with it, but I shrugged that idea off. As I was putting our sandwiches on a plate it started to rain outside, shortly after some thunder rolled in the distance. " I wonder where they are?" Kyle thought aloud. " Yeah. " I said. Just as I was saying that my cell beeped. I walked over and slid it open. Khloe texted me saying that they got caught in the rain, and that they were at one of our neighbors houses waiting it out in their garage. I closed my phone and joined Kyle in the family room. As we ate he talked about his family a little and mentioned that his uncle was getting married at the end of the summer, and we asked me to go with him. " I have something I need to tell you. " he stated. That made me worried a little. " I really didn't hurt my leg that bad, when they were talking about going out on the quads I was going to say something, but then you said you would stay with me so I didn't. " he confessed. " Oh. " I said. " So you faked being really hurt so you could spend time with me? " I laughed. " Yeah. ' he replied. " oh, well I guess I can forgive you for that. " I smiled.

We spent most of the day lounging around and playing board games. The storm got stronger the longer it went on. Khloe texted me that Mrs. Barry, she was our neighbors and our grandmas friend, said that they could stay there overnight. It was too Rainey for them to try to come home tonight. I smiled when I saw that text. Kyle saw my expression and asked me what they said. " They are going to stay there tonight, so we have the house to ourselves. "I smirked. " He smiled. I texted her back and told them to stay there as LONG as they needed to. We made our way back into the living room. Kyle found a movie for us to watch and I started the fireplace. I sat next to him on the couch, and we watched the movie. Half way through, we stopped watching, and we started to make out. Kyle pulled me onto his lap, my legs went on either side of his thighs. The kissing grew more passionate the longer we did it. His hand found it's way to the belt loops on my shorts. He slid his fingers into one of the loops.I wrapped my arms around his neck, and played with his hair. After a few minutes hetugged a little on my shorts. It kind of caught me off guard, but I didn't let him see that. I pulled away inches from his face. By the look in his eyes I could tell the purpose behind the playful gesture. I gazed at him for a moment. I had to think about this. Was I ready for that. I mean it was the ideal place, with the ideal guy. What more could I ask for? As I sat there I ran my fingers through his hair.He didn't try to rush me when I was thinking, he let me take my time. I leaned back in and kissed him harder that I had before, giving him my answer. He showed his approval by sliding his hand down my back and resting it just above my shorts pockets. He then pulled me off his lap and pulled us up to our feet. We stood for awhile kissing, and then i grabbed his hand and started upstairs. As were were ascending the stairs i could hear the rain against the windows. We parted for minute as he went into his room. I walked over to mine and put some music on. I heard him come in and set something on the nightstand. I turned around and he walked over an pulled me into him arms. We started kissing again, and then he turned his attention to my neck. I glanced over and saw that he had placed a box of condoms on the table. ' So you just so happen to have a box with you? " I asked playfully. I pulled away and looked into my eyes. " I'm not one of those guys, it was a gag gift on my birthday, and that happen to be the bag I had with me." he explained. " Ok. " I said with a smile. He smiled back and picked me up. He walked us over to the bed and laid me down on it. Just as my head hit the blanket a flash of lightning lit up my room and thunder cracked. I had to say that this was pretty romantic. Kyle pulled off his shirt. I stared at his abs' and his tan body, just like I had down at the beach the night before. He leaned down and unzipped my shorts. He slid them off with ease and leaned down to kiss me again. We made our way farther up the bed, leaving clothes scattered in our path.
