Rivalry. That's what my whole life story has been based
upon. Whether it be sister and brother rivalry, friendship
rivalry, or royal rivalry. I was born into a life filled with
Why you might ask?
Simply because out of the Seven Deadly Sins, my family was cursed with the worst. Envy.
My family consists of only selfish shrews and rogues, including myself.
It's true. I always think about myself first. I put my own well being before others, everytime. That's why I am selfish. That's why I can never be considered "self-less". I'm not proud of who I am, or what I've done in the process of getting what's best for me. But it is who I am. I'm certainly not going to change for others, after all why should I?
"Ms. Réna! What are you doing out here? You're mother is going to have a fit!" Chelsea, my personal nanny, has been with me since the day I was born. She was like the mother I never had. Okay, so I do have a mother. But what kind of mother stays inside, sipping tea and eating cookies all day? I know, my mother.
"I'm fine Chelsea, and how many times do I have to remind you to address me as Réna, not bloody Ms. Réna!" I laughed.
"I apologize Ms.- I mean Réna."
"It's fine. I should be use to it. After all you've been calling me that since I was born, even though I've been telling you to call me otherwise when it's just you and I, for just as long."
"Bloody hell! There you go again. I am not old at all, I'm barely nineteen for goodness gracious!" I chuckled, "Anyways, what was it my 'dear' mother wanted in the first place?"
"She would like you to come inside to talk about some 'serious' matters."
"My bloody god, she better not mention marriage again. Or I'll be the one having a fit." I said more to myself than my nanny, "Very well, bring me to her."
As I left the sunny warmth of my backyard and entered the cool comfort of my family's castle, I could hear the bickering between my two elder sisters over who deserved to go to the upcoming Winter Ball. It was the social gathering of the year. It was said that Prince Maxwell, the handsomest and most eligible bachelor, would finally choose a bride. Elizabeth and Mary had both fallen deeply into those deep-sea blue eyes and since only one daughter was allowed to go from each family, a war was beginning between the two. Personally, I preferred the green eyes kind.
"Réna! Where have you been all day? I've been waiting for you since noon!" my mother scolded. I looked at the grandfather clock and saw it was only fifteen minutes past twelve. A fifteen-minute wait and my mother were already complaining; this was a world record.
"I'm sorry mother, but I did not have a good night of sleep, so I cannot walk as fast as usual." I lied.
She nodded her head; "Well I'm sure you know that the Winter Ball will be next month, where Prince Maxwell will choose a bride."
"Yes I know, Mary and Elizabeth are both desperate to go."
"Yes, however your father and I both feel it would be more suitable if you go."
