BEFORE YOU READ IT: I am German, so there may be some grammar mistakes. Nobody's perfect :)
"Jenna?", my mother cried, "I have to tell you something important: take care of your brother, even though you think he's annoying. I love you."
I knew it was just a dream. My mother died two years ago. After she passed away, my dad, my little brother and I moved to New York. And now she told me to take care of my brother. Why? I was sixteen and my brother, Chris, was twelve years old. My father was fine. Why did she tell me to take care of Chris?
Was dad ill? Did he have an accident?
No, I didn't think so. It was summer vacation and I was happy about that. I would have probably cried at school, because I missed my mother.
Then my brother knocked on my door.
"Are you awake?", he asked.
"Yes, I am.", I answered.
"We want to eat breakfast. Will you come downstairs?", he left my room before I was able to say yes.
When I came downstairs, my dad and Chris already sat at the table.
"Good morning.", dad said.
"Hi.", I actually didn't want to talk to him.
"You look sad.", he stared at me.
"No, I'm good.", I lied.
I felt like I was the saddest girl on this planet. It wasn't only because of my mother. I missed my old friends. All of my friends were taken, but I was single. I felt lonely.
"Haha, hey Daddy, have I told you about Melly?", Chris looked really happy.
"No. Who is she?", dad asked.
"Melly Jenkins. She's my girlfriend!", he said happily.
"Cool.", then dad looked at me again. "Don't you want to eat?"
"No, I'm not hungry.", actually I was, but I didn't want to. My brother, a little beast had a girlfriend. I knew it was not a real love, but at least he wasn't single. I was. I thought that I was too fat, because I was single. "Can I go to the mall with Kelsey?"
"Yes, have fun.", dad smiled.
"Haha. Kelsey, that girl with the big boobs? Can I have her number?", my brother asked. That's why I hated him.
"No!", I was angry.
"Oh, come on! She's hot!", Chris winked.
"She's too old for you. And you aren't even single. Kelsey is taken, too."
I ran into my room. But why did I run? I didn't even know. I was just angry and sad at the same time.
Then I got a text message.
"Hey. How are you doing?" It was Kelsey.
"I'm doing great. How are you?" I lied.
"Me, too. :) Have you already asked your father?"
"Yep. He said "Okay". :)"
"That's great. I'll take you there, okay?"
"In one hour?"
"That's okay! See you."
One hour later we were on our way to the mall. I looked out of the window. I've always wondered, why Kelsey owned a car. I mean, we lived in New York.
"Do you know, what happened earlier today?", I asked.
"No, I don't. Tell me about it!", Kelsey smiled.
"My brother wants to have your number. I think he's in love with you.", I laughed.
"Your brother Chris?", Kelsey was shocked.
"Oh my goodness. He's twelve!"
Then Kelsey's phone ringed.
I didn't want to hear her conversation, so I listened to music via my headphones. My favorite song was playing. Every time I listened to that song, I forgot all the trouble.
I forgot that I was single.
I forgot that I had such an annoying brother.
I forgot everything!
Then Kelsey tried to wake me up: "Jenna! Wake up! We arrived!"
