Novel By: OverdosedByBooks
Young adult

Seventeen year old Kimberly Evans has always been infatuated with bad boys and that’s exactly what she got when she started to date Joey. But when Joey starts to abuse her, physically and emotionally, she doesn’t know if it’s love or pure war. Will she build up the courage to walk away from this relationship? Or will she stay with Joey and continue to be abused? Either way she has to find peace of mind, and one way or another that’s precisely what she’s going to get.

I was having a dream; no this had to be real.

His hands caressed my side delicately and his lips moved perfectly. I could feel his heartbeat rhythmically beating faster and faster like my excitement every time he touched me. When his lips touched my cold skin he sent a bloodcurdling chill down my spine making me feel like some sort of queen.

Every now and again he would whisper in my ear, I could never understand what he was saying. Only because his voice was tantalizing and his breath beaming on my neck would make my brain stop thinking and just enjoy the moment.

It was like all my problems just seized to exist anymore. I actually had peace of mind; something I hadn’t had for a very long time.

“I’m sorry.” I whispered against his chest.

“For what?”

“For dragging you into this hellhole I’m in.”

He chuckled.”I don’t mind I got something in return anyway.”

“That is?” I asked confusingly.

“You.”

It was all starting to come together as it should’ve been from the beginning, although there was one tiny little thing that kept getting in our way, Joey.

One day I’d get rid of him, that day wasn’t anytime soon I believed.

-----------------------------

“Are you sure?”

He let in a deep sigh while closing his eyes.

“No.”

I frowned.”So why are we doing this?”

He looked in the direction we were headed and bent his head down on the steering wheel.

“I just… I just have too.”

Unfortunately, he stuck his head out the window and cleared his throat.

“May I take your order?” The lady on the intercom said.

“Um, yeah can I have a Big Mac and some small fries and…” he turned towards me.”Do you want anything?”

I crossed my arms against my chest and pouted.”I told you, McDonald’s has fake food and I don’t eat fake food.”

He shrugged.”Whatever…Yeah, that’d be it.”

“That’d be 5.48.”

He pulled off to the window and waited for his food. When it arrived he pulled over in the parking lot to eat while I looked at him like he was some type of animal.

“You’ve been staring at me since I take a bite, would you like some?” He gestured his greasy burger over to me.

“I said I don’t like fake food and shut up your breath smells awful.”

I pulled my hand over my nose as he leaned his head over to me making a kissy face.

“Come on, taste the onions give me a kiss.”

I pushed his shoulder.”You are disgusting.”

I looked over at my window and surprisingly I saw Derek exiting his car and stand as if he was waiting for someone.

I bent down and pushed Landon’s head down.

“What the—“

“Shh!” I whispered as I peeked my head out a little.

He stood there until a gray Chrysler that had tinted windows drove beside his car. A man with a black suit came out the car with a clipboard in his hand.

They shook hands and their mouths moved slowly as they talked.

“What’s happen—“

“Shh! I can’t hear!”

“…We have to do something about this Derek. He can’t keep doing this and one day he’ll get caught and you can’t save him anymore.” The man in the suit said.

Derek scratched his head.”I know and now I don’t know what I should do. I mean for long Joey I mean Andrew has been doing this for a long time now, I never thought this day would come.”

Andrew? I thought. Why did he call him Andrew?

“Either way he is going to get caught no matter how hard you try to hide him. If you want to be a good friend you’ll convince him to try to get some help. These lawsuits against him are just—let’s just say he doesn’t stand a chance.”

“I know.”

“And if anybody finds out I’m doing this I might just lose my job.”

Derek started pacing.”Yeah I know. I forgot to tell you he has another girlfriend now, her name is Kimberley Smith and I know he’s been beating her for a long time. This might be lawsuit number three.”

He knew! He knew! He knew!

I opened the car door angrily and started marching toward him.

“How could you! How could you just sit there when you knew he was hitting me?”

I yelled as I walked up to his face.

“Kim please-“

“No I don’t want to hear it, you knew and you think that I wouldn’t find out. Well you know what you can just jump off a bridge right along with Joey slash Andrew! I don’t give a damn anymore.

“Well you aren’t so innocent either!”

My hand rose ready to slap the hair off his head but Landon stopped me.

“Let’s go.” He mumbled.

I looked over at Derek and then walked with Landon.

So many hidden secrets were coming to the surface now.

As they say, whatever goes on in the dark comes to the light.

Eventually.
