“So, you gonna act like you don’t know me now?”
I clutched my books closer to my chest and continued walking down the hall.
“Really Kimberley, look I said I was sorry.”
“You promised.”
“Promised what?”
I stopped and slid over to a locker, looking around so no one could hear me. “You promised Joey, you said you wouldn’t hit me again and you’ll get help. You lied to me, and I don’t know if I can trust you again.”
“I made a mistake, everyone makes mistakes.”
I shook my head.”You don’t keep making the same mistakes over and over again after you said you’ll learn from them. Use that crap somewhere else, because I’m not buying it.”
“So that’s it? You’re going to give up on us? After all we’ve been through?”
“I mean, are you going to hit me again?”
“No and I won’t lie anymore either.”
“You just lied.”
He sighed heavily.”Look, Kimmi I love you and for you not to see that it makes me wonder if you ever loved me from the start.”
I placed my hand on his face.”I’ve always loved you, Joey.”
He touched my hand that was laid on his cheek and came closer to me.”Then accept my apology, I swear on my mother I won’t hurt you anymore.”
“How do you know you’re not lying? Like last time…”
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a red small box.
“I was going to wait until our one year anniversary, but I feel this is right.” He opened the box, a ring with a very tiny small diamond but it was still the most beautiful and thoughtful thing anyone had ever done for me.
“Oh my god! Joey it’s beautiful!” He slid it on my finger; it was so beautiful I had completely forgotten what I had been saying at first.
He leaned me against the locker and kissed me, it wasn’t really what I had expecting. It was hard and uncomfortable but I didn’t care.
“Get a room!” Brooke said while walking past us.
Ignoring her, Joey turned back to me.”Let me walk you to class.”
I nodded while he held my hand the whole time. The bell rung and Joey kissed me one last time then walked off. I walked into my English class and stunned to see Landon actually in class.
“Take a seat, Ms. Evans.” My teacher asked me so I sat in my seat in front of Landon.
Twenty minutes in class I felt a piece of paper hit the back of my head, I turned around and Landon was whistling then glared at me and winked. I reached down to pick it up and unraveled it.
Tisk Tisk, You didn’t listen to a word I said I see.
It read.
What are you talking about?
I placed it on his desk and two minutes later I felt it hit my head again.
Still with him eh?
He promised he wouldn’t do it, don’t you see the ring on my finger?
He proposed?
I rolled my eyes.
No crazy, it’s like a promise ring.
Promise my ass.
I smirked.
You’re funny.
I know, you want to ditch school after this class and grab a bite to eat?
I turned towards him; he motioned me to turn back around.
I don’t believe in ditching school.
You’re just scared.
No I’m not!
Yes you are. Your prude just admit it.
I deliberated for a second.
Okay, okay.
He didn’t reply after that, probably because Mrs. B, our teacher saw us passing notes and warned us to stop.
The bell rung and everyone rushed out of class. I collected all my items and walked over to Landon who was waiting by our class door.
“You ready?”
I gazed around to make sure Joey wasn’t anywhere around, he would flip if he saw me leaving with Landon.
“Ready.”
