CHAPTER 4
My last week at St. Augustine Private Academy was hectic. I didn’t do anything, except figure out what to do with the people who knew about my move. I couldn’t believe it, they were even asking for autographs. Brenda finally accepted. She spent every second of her free time with me. I was kind of sad to just leave her. So, I treasured every moment I had with my best friend.Brenda organized a farewell party for me. I told her to give out invitations to the people I exactly knew.
Friday was the last day for me at school. Brenda reserved the gym, for the night. As promised, Brenda only invited the people that were really close to me. I was also surprised to see the teachers. I wore the new dress that I bought from Coco Paris, and a matching sandal. I was glad that they put up a heater in the gym. The night was amazing. We were dancing, and singing. A boy approached me, and told me that someone wanted to talk to me. I followed him to the door, and I found Andrew.
I rolled my eyes and asked him with a tone. “What do you want, Andrew?”
“Ania, I’m so sorry about what happened last week. I was… I mean, I was kind of pissed that you were leaving so suddenly.” He told me seriously. “Will you forgive me?”
He was staring at me, and I stared back at him. I can’t stay mad at people, especially Andrew, my best friend. “Fine. Apology accepted.” When I told him that, he grinned and hugged me. I hugged him back. There was a long silence.
“Anastasia, I like you. I really like you. I’m serious about you. It has been very hard for me. That’s why I kept on avoiding you.” He did look serious, but what he just said took me by surprise, and I was out of words.
I fell silent for awhile. I did like him, but I didn’t want to be more than a friend to him. “What do you mean by like?”
“You are so dense.” He told me.
I chuckled a bit. I pulled away from his embrace and looked seriously at his blue eyes. I sighed, “Andrew, I appreciate what you said to me. I’m not sure about what you were saying, but I can’t like more than this. You’ve been my best friend, and yes, I like you. But, not the way you like me. I’m so sorry. I really am, Andrew.”
“Oh… it’s… okay.” He said. Before I left, I gave him a peck on his cheek and a hug.
The party ended before midnight. Everybody bid their last farewells to me. I did cry a bit. After the party, I went home with my sister. I didn’t think of anything else, except for the unknown new life ahead of me.
The next day, I left with my dad. I didn’t feel like flying, so I decided to travel by car. I only had my wallet and driver’s license. Sarah will follow me after packing all my stuff and Spencer will be coming too, of course. Dad and I took turns on driving. I drove the roads that I was familiar with. It was a long ride. After some hours, it started to rain, but it disappeared right away.
My dad was driving when we entered a familiar town. It wasn’t big, and it didn’t have much buildings. The only buildings were probably the schools, and some offices. My dad made a turn on a dirt road. Snow started to melt on the sidewalks.
The sky grew dimmer as we drove in the small road. Until I realized that the scenery slowly became full of life. The road was now cemented. Ahead of us was an enormous gate. I tried to remember from my childhood years about this place, but I failed. I looked around and found the place very interesting. The house was white. Grandmother Sammie’s house was bigger than ours. We stopped at the front, right in front of the front door.
“Oh, my…gosh!” I yelled.
“What’s wrong?” Dad asked as he was getting out of the car.
I was now staring at my car with awe. “Dad, look at my car! It’s a mess. I can’t believe it! How far did we go?” I was laughing, and then tidied myself. I was wearing a knee-high boots, and an off-shoulder brown top, and a tight black pants, with my sunglasses over my head.
It was the first time I’ve seen my Sedan covered with mud. The front door flew open, and a lady with silver hair came out. “Anastasia, what happened?” she rushed down on the front porch steps and asked. Without hesitation, she hugged me tightly.
“Mom, stop it. You almost choked her.” I heard Dad said, and then laughed.
The lady then let go of me. She was smiling. I had the same eye color as hers. My eyes widened. “Gra… grandma?” I asked her, and then she nodded. I was the one who hugged her now. “I missed you!”
“What happened earlier? I heard you yell, that’s why I came down rushing.” She asked me. I snickered and told her everything.
We were now inside her mansion. I was amazed by the size of it. It was beautiful. There were two chandeliers hanging on both living room ceilings, and they danced as they sparkled. The stairs were kind of the same as ours, but the stairs and floor here were pure marble. There were three floors in the house, and I could see that it was carpeted.
“Mom, did you change something?” dad asked grandma.
She nodded, “Yes, dear. I did some renovations. It’s beautiful, right?”
“Grandma, your house… mansion is amazing. To tell you the truth, your mansion is bigger that Dad’s. No offense, dad.” I made a few steps towards the marble stairway. I laughed softly and turned to face them. Dad and grandmother smiled at me.
Seconds passed by and I heard light footsteps slowly descend from the stairs on the second floor. I saw my grandmother look up, and her mood lightened more. My heart started beating faster.
“Oh! What took you so long? I’ve been waiting for you.” Grandma walked beside me and waited for that someone to get downstairs.
A very pleasing voice of a man spoke. “Sorry about that, Aunt Sammie.”
His voice made me shiver and frozen in place. Dad moved beside me and tapped my shoulder. When I looked up, I saw everyone staring at me. They asked me if I was alright, and I told them that I was fine.
“Mother, who is he?” dad asked his mom. His voice seemed upset.
Grandma Sammie then said, “He’s my best friend’s grandson. Anastasia, this is Nathan. Nathan, this is Anastasia.
He looked very young, probably just my age. Nathan sure was beautiful. He had a gorgeous face and body. He had a pale white skin, and perfect teeth. I felt it then that he was perfect, but he was something else.
He held out his hands for us to shake hands. “Hi. Nice to meet you, Anastasia.” I took his hand and nodded. His hand was cold. I glanced for awhile at his perfect face, and suddenly I felt dizzy.
“Are you alright?” he asked me, still holding my hand.
“No… Grandma… where’s my room?” I asked her. My head started to spin.
“It’s on the third floor. Just choose what room you like. Oh dear, let’s get you upstairs.” Grandma said. I didn’t hear my dad, he stayed silent.
I shrugged and quickly said, “No, I’m fine. I can get there by myself.” I started running on the stairs to the third floor. I heard my grandma said something, but I didn’t dare listen to her. There were four rooms on it. I couldn’t keep my eyes open. I went in a room I didn’t know, and closed the door. I collapsed on the floor. I was shivering, and trembling.
“… green… eyes…” Those were the last words I spoke before I lost my consciousness.
