He was coming for me. He had sent me an e-mail last night for me to meet him at the airport for 3:15 sharp. I haven’t had my driver’s test yet so my older brother had to drive me there. Now here we are, at the beginning of summer, waiting at the gate for his flight to come in.
We had met online 8 months ago. He was 18 and I am 16. He was from Australia and I’m from Canada. We would talk almost every night and sometimes we’d talk all night. After talking for about 3 and 1/2 months we fell in love. It wasn’t supposed to happen but somehow it did and I still don’t know if it’s real or not, but I’ll find out today.
“So tell me Lee, what’s so great about this guy?” My brother, Seb (Sebastian), asked.
“What’s so great about your girlfriend?” I winked, checking my phone again. 2:53 pm.
"Okay, okay fine. Stop checking the time. He’ll get here.”
“I know...”
We waited in silence for a little while, me checking my phone every minute. It was 3:10 when Seb took my phone away.
“Give it back!” I snapped.
“Hey chill out!”
“I’m sorry Seb, I’m just excited...”
“Hey I know. I would be too, if it was a chick, but it’s a dude and... Just be careful okay. Cause he’s older and-” He started
“You don’t have to be so protective...”
“I just...”
He was interrupted by the intercom saying the flights that have landed.
“Flights 186, 353 and 204 have just landed. 186, 353 and 204”
“Any of those him?”
I didn’t answer ‘cause I ran to the gates of flight 353. He laughed and walked up next to me and squeezed my arm. People started pouring out of the gates about five minutes later.
"So what does this kid look like?"
“Liiiiiiike...that!” I pointed out one guy and as soon as he saw me, he smiled. I tried restraining the grin that tugged at the corners or my mouth but I couldn’t hold it back. I almost ran off to him but I looked at Seb first. He laughed then shoved me forward.
“Go...” Seb urged me. I hugged him and ran through the crowd of people until I stood in front of him.
“Hi” I smiled widely.
“Hi, I’m Chase, nice to meet you.” He smirked.
“Leah...”
“I know.” He whispered and put his arms around me and pulled me close.
I leaned my head on his chest and we stood there for a while. People shoved by us and I decided we should get back to Seb. I pulled out of his hold, but still held onto his hand.
“I want you to meet my brother....” I told him.
“Well then, what are we standing around here for?”
He picked up his bag in one hand and we walked over to Seb.
“So this is the man that stole my little sister’s heart, eh?” He laughed.
“Seb, shut up.” I hit his shoulder.
“Nahh it’s okay. It’s true isn’t it?” Chase looked at me and I nodded.
“I think...” I mumbled and Chase grinned and nodded. “Well, Chase, Seb. Seb, Chase.”
“Nice too meet you” Seb told him and they shook hands. “Well, we have an hour drive home and mom and dad are working. You two kiddies can sit in the back and talk. What about I have no clue cause you’re ALWAYS talking to each other.” He laughed.
“Technically, he’s not a kid. He’s an adult.” I corrected.
“Okay, well exactly how old are you Chase?”
“19... ” He responded.
“Hey! You told me he was 18!!” Seb half yelled.
“I just turned... a couple weeks ago...”
“Seb come on. I’m almost 17!”
“Do mom and dad know...?”
“Not yet...” I said to the floor.
“Whatever...”
We walked to the car, well we borrowed mom’s SUV, and put his bags in the back. Then we sat in the very back seat because I really didn’t want Seb to listen to every word we said.
“When did you decide you wanted to come here?” I asked.
“A couple of weeks ago. I had to pull some strings, but I wanted to come, for your birthday...” He smiled.
“I’m glad you did. I almost passed out when I read your e-mail you know...But I fell off the chair instead.”
“Oh how I wish I could see that” He smirked.
“You can! I taped it!” Seb yelled from the front.
“You did? You ass!” I yelled at him.
Both of them were laughing at me and I could feel myself getting red.
“Oh come on, we’ll watch It when we get to your place and see how funny it is. Okay?” Chase said.
“Maybe...”
We continued the drive home with me asking a zillion questions about his flight and when he was leaving. Apparently, it’s whenever my parents kick him out.
When we got home we took his things downstairs and Seb ran down the stairs.
“Lee, I’m going to Spence’s house for a bit okay. Get dinner and... be good.” He winked.
“SEBASTIAN!” My jaw dropped and Chase laughed.
“You don’t have to worry about that I promise you okay.” He told Seb as he walked out that door.
“Sorry about him...”
“It’s okay. Older protective brother. I get it.” He hugged me.
“Okay. I’ll show you where you have to stay.”
“Ohh not in your room?” He winked.
“Mom and dad don’t want you in there. They don’t like that the room’s two doors away. Hell, they don’t even like that you’re on the same level.”
“That’s fine. It’s close enough. Plus it’s just for night time.” He winked, again. “Can I please do something I’ve waited 5 months to do?” He asked, his eyes begging. I nodded.
He put his arms around my waist, pulled me close to him and pressed his lips to mine.
