The black roses'

Novel By: RLH
Young adult

((Completed, yes!!!))
A group of teenagers go to Juliard to help their band succed. There's Jess and Alex, the twins, Josh and me. The only problem is, we're moving to America. Will the distance between our families be a good thing or bad?
Add a suitcase full of sarcasm, a bit of luck and some feelings of love, and I think we have ourselves a novel. Read on and find out just what really goes off in a girls brain...when it isn't focused on other stuff...

This is my first proper novel (rising sun doesn't count because I've given up on it) so all comments are welcome, the good, the bad, and the ugly. You choose.

Ok, I know that you will probably be expecting great things from this novel, but it's just a 'calm novel' where nothing too drastic happens.

The Black Roses
Have you ever been in love? Horrible isn't it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens up your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside and mess you up. You build up a whole suit of armour, so that nothing can hurt you. Then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid people, wanders into your stupid life... You give them a piece of you. They didn't ask for it. They did something dumb one day, like kiss you or smile at you, and then your life isn't your own anymore. Love takes hostage. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, so a simple phrase like "maybe we should just be friends" turns into a glass splinter working its way into your heart. It hurts. It's not just in the imagination. Not just in the mind. It's a soul-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain. I hate love.
Chapter 1- New York
"Hurry up Josh!" I screamed at the top of my voice from the bottom of the stairs. "I know you love her, but this is ridiculous."
"Don't worry; they won't be doing anything..." Alex's voice trailed off when he looked at my angry expression. Trust me, never get on my bad side; once a bimb- I mean cheerleader tripped me up, I punched her in the face. Well somebody had to do it. Shaking my head, I walked up the stairs to his bedroom door. I took a deep breath and said
"If you don't come out in ten seconds, I'm gonna come in." I heard bumping as they tried to clean up... but it wasn't from his room. Confused, I ran down the corridor to my bedroom. I busted into the room to find Harry and his new FWB,Sammy, on my bed. My bed! I grabbed Josh and shook him viciously.
"We're going in half an hour and you're still with Sammy. In my bed!" I spat in his face, my voice crescendoing in anger. He looked sheepish as he scrambled to find his clothes. I held back a smirk at his reaction as I walked back down the corridor and into the hallway. Alex shot a sympathetic look at me and looked disgusted as Harry emerged from the staircase barely five minutes later.
"I hope you changed the sheets" I said through narrowed eyes. Alex placed a hand on my shoulder, to stop me from killing Harry as he led me outside.
"Shotgun!" I shouted as I climbed into the front passenger seat of our new van. Alex climbed into the drivers' seat and shot me a quizzical look.
"What? Since we're going to America, I might as well try the lingo" he rolled his eyes and put our new van into drive as Harry was putting on his seatbelt behind me. He was smart to sit in the back; if he'd have driven, my actions would kill us all. We'd just bought a Nissan primastar van second-hand to store our band equipment in for gigs.
I guess I should start by explaining about the band. We consisted of Jess and Alex who were twins, yet looked completely different; While Alex had cerulean blue eyes and shaggy blond hair, Jess had long curly brown hair and dark brown eyes. They both was the same build though; tall and lanky. Both musically gifted. No joke. Alex was a first-rate guitarist and Jess played the drums with attitude.
Next was Harry. He had cropped sandy hair and azure eyes. He played the piano with an exceptional edge. Even though I would never say this to his face, when he played it, he was so good that he sent a shiver down my spine and I could feel my eyes prickle with tears. See? That's why I don't tell him, He'd just pick on me immorally. I was obviously in it also, my name was Alice and I had shoulder length curly red hair and green eyes. No other family members had red hair. I looked more Irish then English, maybe I should change my name to Maggie...
Anyway, my talent, or lack of, was singing, badly I might add. Everybody said I have the voice of an angel, but I knew I didn't. I could also play the violin, but nobody knew that. One day, when we were jamming, we decided to form a band. Our name? The black roses. It wasn't based on the stone roses- even though they are awesome- it was based on our love for the night world series. Don't ask why we named it that, we just did. Now I bet you're wondering where we were going. We were flying from Manchester airport to the big apple. Yup, we were going to New York. I couldn't wait! I have always wanted to go to New York, so since Josh figured that we would do great in America we all agreed. Jess only wanted to go for the shopping...well that and the music, but she loved shopping more. Their parents sort of agreed but on one condition, we had to get into Julliard. And guess what? We did! And now we were picking up jess from her house. Alex piped the horn and Jess jumped into her seat in the back, leaving her suitcase on the pavement. She gave Alex a pointed look and he sighed and loaded her suitcase in the back. After getting back into his seat, Alex drove off. We were leaving the van at the port and getting it shipped to NYC along with all our instruments while we flew over.

So here we are, at gate three waiting to board the plane. We had another hour to wait, so Jess being Jess, dragged me to the shops. We looked in WHSmiths for sweets, drinks and magazines. And upon learning that they didn't have biscuits in America, only cookies, I decided to stock up on them. And when I say stock up, that's exactly what I mean. I got rich tea, hobnobs and chocolate digestives. My mouth watered at the thought. I got Harry a colouring book to keep him busy, seriously, if you didn't keep him occupied, he would start bouncing off the walls. I pitied Alex having to sit next to him for the next five hours... Or did I?
