"I swear Alyssa that has to be your favorite word!"
“Well you were going to tell her anyway why not now?”
“Let’s see...How about because she’s shocked to the point of fainting already...Any more shock and I think you’ll kill her! That‘s more than enough reason!”
“Oh please...It’s not like we can’t fix her if she brakes...”
“Now you can’t tell me you don’t want to know more Rave. Just say the word and I’ll give you details.”
“I really don’t care Alyssa.” I tried my hardest to keep a straight face, but the need to know was killing me inside.
“Oh stop it Raven. You can’t lie to a vampire it’s impossible.”
“Well technically I wasn’t lying I was...” She cut me off before I could finish my sentence.
“Shut up ! I'll tell you later....” Just like that she shattered my defenses leaving me bare. Alyssa read my thoughts like they were slashed across my forehead.
“Will you guys just drop it, jeez.” I jumped, I thought for sure Zack was sleeping. I hadn’t even heard him move and his breathing hadn’t changed one bit.
“Sorry Rave I’m not use to having to make noise. Don’t worry you’ll get it soon, after you change you’ll be the same way.” I snickered at that, no way was I going to become a leech. He sighed. Honestly it didn’t matter; I had no choice I was in a car full of vampires. I should have seen it coming. There were only two choices 1-They were going to kill me or 2-They were going to change me. Between the two I couldn’t tell you which one I would have chose.
“Don’t worry no ones going to bite you that would be stupid and dangerous. Like the chances of you surviving that are about 1 in 1,000. The venom is deadly; I’m personally surprised that anyone’s ever survived it. Anyways we being the brilliant creatures we are can up with a way to deloot the venom to where it’s still effective but way less toxic. Now all you have to do is get a shot...and wait a day or two. While it kills you.”
“I thought we were trying to stay away from that!” He rolled his eyes and smiled.
“You have to die, your body rejects the venom then for like the minute while your dead it multiplies and changes your cells. Basically your cells just change their diet. You just get the benefits of them becoming stronger.”
I couldn’t think of an excuse so instead I stuck out my tongue out in his direction and turned away.
“I thought the emo kid would jump up for joy at the thought of becoming a vampire.”
“That’s mean, your confusing me with a gothic kid!”
“Oh that’s right...You want to die, right? Well you get that too!” I jumped up from my seat and prepared to lunch at him. It’s too bad Eric grabbed the back of my shirt and pulled me back before I reached him.
‘Please stay seated.” He seemed to be sulking in the fact that I knew his little secret.
It was silent for the longest time, when people say they can freeze into statues they’re not lying. Eventually I settled on falling asleep after all I was woken at 1:00 in the morning by my ‘parent’s’ screams.
I was almost happy when I felt someone tugging on me.
“Come on sleeping beauty we have a plane to catch and it waits for no one.” I yawned and stepped out of the car; I must have stumbled because Eric was gripping my shoulders. I was so tired...Had he said plane? As in flying plane?
“Why are we catching a plane?”
‘Oh yeah, I suppose I’d forgotten to mention that... We’re going to Russia my parents live there and they sort of want to meet you.”
Oh the joy, meet the parents. Eric seemed to still be sulking. I had to attempt small talk...this shall be interesting.
“Wait don’t I need a passport?” Yeah, that was a stupid question. Why would they forget that?
“Taken care off. You’d be surprised what your mom will do when she’s drunk!” Okay I don’t think I want to know.
“Off to the land of ice, I’m so glade you like the cold.” He smiled widely, it was almost sarcastic like he was forcing himself to smile.
I sighed. Russia, it had to be really, really far away. Next time I prey for something I promise not specify any request.
“Wow, you look really tired Rave.” Zack was laughing. He was obviously enjoying himself. Something about him was stabbing at me.
“Leave her alone. You try being a human, who was beat up left for dead and going through unparallel shock.” Alyssa smiled. What did I miss last I checked she didn’t care about my shocked level....and wasn’t viciously glaring at Zack.
“Well, fine. Take her side some mate you are.” Zack began to ramble on until Alyssa snickered, and hit him in the back of his head.
“Don’t you bring that into this. I didn’t choose you, Your such a smart...” He cut her off before she blew.
“Fine, fine. I won’t.” He was rubbing his head like a baby. She couldn’t have hit him that hard, vampire or not she was super small compared to him.
“Would you two put a cork in it? Jeez, I don’t think you’ll ever agree on anything...It’s a wonder your mates. (Eric sighs) What was fate thinking?”
I had to giggle; at least Eric wasn’t picking sides.
We were at the ticket stand now, apparently they had ordered the tickets in advanced online. Eric was giving the perky desk lady some long code with numbers and letters. What shocked me, was the fact that he wasn’t reading it off a piece of paper. The lady ’s eyes began to search for an answer, but gave up soon after and hand him a buddle of tickets.
“We’ll be making three stops, one in New York, another in Ukraine, then the last in Moscow. We’ll have to drive the last Two hundred or so miles. “ Eric turned to where he could see my face. He’s eyes seemed a little lighter. They were no longer heavy with sulking. I just couldn’t figure out why he had such a ‘pleased’ smile on his face. ‘Your not too tired are you?” I yawned; I was unfortunately VERY tired. Was he pleased that I was becoming dead on my feet?
“Um n- (I had to pause to yawn.)’” He chuckled and began to pull me towards the next area where we’d go through the metal detectors and check in.
It wasn’t a long wait; we had just got there in time.
“Pick up your feet. You’re dragging them, Rave!” Alyssa was poking me to keep moving.
“I’m trying. Jeez, I’m not a vampire I actually sleep.”
“Smart one, we do too.”
“Well, how come you’re not tired?”
“Well I only have to sleep maybe once a week and I slept yesterday .”
“Oh.” I yawned, she was saying something else but I was too busy not caring.
“Stairs Ray! Climb them don’t sleep on them! “ I shook my head and began to pick my feet up the stairs.
“Rave, you look like you’re about to die!” Zack started to laugh at me; I was so embarrassed that I nearly sat on the floor instead of the seat.
‘Be nice Zack!” I could hear Zack and Alyssa fighting in the seats behind Eric and I.
“So you’re NOT tired, right?” Eric was for no apparent point very amused with my lack of sleep.
“Why are you smiling? I’m not that (Yet again I had to pause and yawn.)” I didn’t even bother to finish my sentence.
‘Oh no reason...Your expression is beyond amusing that’s really all...” Somehow I really didn’t believe that was the case.
“My expression?” Although he tried to hold it back a small chuckle escaped his lips.
“You don’t believe me?” Okay this was beginning to hit a nerve, what was so funny?
“Cut it out! My sleep-deprived mind can’t take anymore!” When he began to laugh some more I launched at him, only to get caught. I would describe I as a wet cat (Me) being squeezed by a toddler (Eric).
“You’re so pretty when you’re angry.” That’s all it took my bones turned to marshmallow in his grasp. I could feel my cheeks burning with the light sting of blush.
“Hmm. Now your putty in my capable hands, are you not?” He smiled and I could help but kiss him. It was sweet and soft like a kiss should be.
“Ewe. Really Eric couldn’t you wait?” Zack was leaning over the back of Eric’s chair staring at as. Eric let go of me, and I sat back down in my seat, why did he have to ruin it?
“Well I could but you and Alyssa obliviously aren’t waiting. Why again do you choice hate instead of love.” Eric started to laugh as Zack came at him with a fist.
“What’s wrong? Fighting with your mate not enough?”
“Your lucky we’re on a plane Eric!”
“Yeah I am, and aren’t you glad we’re going to see mom soon...You won’t be able to hit me there either. Of course unless you want dad on your back.” I had to laugh at that.
After a little while they both settle down and once again filled the air. All the other passages were either sleeping or quietly reading. Eventually my eyelids began to protest against being open. So I decided to rest against Eric’s shoulder, a little more sleep wouldn’t hurt. I’d need all the rest I could get if was to survive a vampire/parent meet and greet. Soon after I’d gotten comfortable Eric wrapped his arm around me, holding me tight. I couldn’t help but drift away.
It seemed like such a short amount of time before Eric was shaking me and telling me to wake up.
“We have another flight to catch!” I yawned and proceeded to stumble off the plane.
“How long was that one? You know the flight.”
“8 hours.” It certainty didn’t feel that long, I mean jeez.
“Well, the next ones going to be much longer. About 2 hours longer.”
“Oh the joy.” He started to laugh when Alyssa pushed him out of the way.
“Plane to catch! Coming Rave?”
“Yeah!” I yawned again before trailing behind her. Zack wasn’t far behind us; he seemed to be sulking. Eventually Eric caught up to me. When I was sure no one else could hear I whispered a question in his ear.
“Did I miss something?” He took a deep sigh before answering.
“Well other than an incredible boring flight with my sibling screaming at each other, no. By the way, try to keep me company this time. “ He smiled widely, before adding,
“Though the cuddling was nice...”
“Yeah I know....” I returned his smile with my own.
This time we barely made the flight, the gate was literally closing when we got there.
Are seats were closer to the pilot, first class I do believe. It could have be like that last time too; I was probably just too tired to realize at the time.
The seating arrangements were the same and it looked like Alyssa was going to tear Zack into a thousand pieces. Right on! Zack deserved it and I was on Alyssa’s side anyways. I think Eric was neutral on the subject, he stayed clear of the flying words.
Thought about the first two hours were entertaining the fight began to get brutal so I decided to turn my attention back to Eric.
“Silence the slow killer among all of us, it’s quit deadly you know.” He started to chuckle.
“All right I’ll play along, what are we talking about?” Well I wasn’t prepared for that.
“Uh...Stuff.” I grinned; I had no clue what to talk about!
“Well.... Got any questions?”
“Hmmm....Not really. Oh! Wait, are Zack and Alyssa your only siblings?’
“No. I have another brother his name is Seth. He’s off on trip though.”
“Are you the youngest, oldest...?”
“Youngest. Zack’s the oldest and Seth is the middleman.”
Really.... What’s your parents like?”
“Well.... It’s really too hard to describe them you’ll have to see for your self.” I pursed my lips I had nothing.
“Fine, I’ve got a question now.... What’s your favorite color?” Oh I love to hate this one.
“I’m stuck between red and purple.”
“No black?”
“Technically black isn’t a color.”
“Whatever...favorite.... Um.... Book?”
“Well Twilight’s pretty good.” He sighed.
“Well....” He might have said something else if a flight attendant interrupted.
“What kind of drink would you like?” She was a short little woman. Her eyes were a pretty shade of hazel and She styled her blonde hair in a pixie cut.
“Something bubbly like lemon-lime.” I smiled. She nodded and handed me a plastic cup of ice, a straw, and a can of lemon-lime soda. Then she asked Eric. He ordered a
Coke. After the lady was gone, he turned his attention back to me. I was caught red-handed sipping the soda loudly through the straw.
‘I have noth...” He stopped mid-sentence to laugh. I stopped dead in my tracks.
“What?” My words were slightly muffled because of the straw lodged in between my lips.
“Oh never mind, I have plenty to say now.” I dropped the straw. This couldn’t be good. It was hard for him (Apparently) to stop laughing but when he finally stopped he said:
“Like I was saying I have nothing to say...”
‘Ha ha. Pick on human, she had a straw in her mouth. Well at least soda is the only thing I SUCK.”
“Ha ha, you’re a comedian.” I sighed and gave up. There really was nothing to talk about, so instead I rested against his shoulder; still oddly exhausted.
“Sorry.” Maybe a minute or two after his apology, Eric wrapped his arm around me. The remainder of the trip was silently filled with light kisses and giggles.
