Fifteen year old Olivia and 16 year old Lily had spent one week together every summer for as long as they could remember. Every year they would spend hours on the phone planning their one week. Every year they switched who went to what house. This year Olivia would be flying in from Florida to spend the week with Lily in Indiana.
"Mom, we need to leave NOW if we are going to get there in time to pick up Olivia," I yelled running down the stairs and grabbing my purse. Of course, I could have just went to the airport alone to get her, it would have changed the whole summer, but as it was, mom felt the need to welcome Olivia and was now taking her time getting ready, five minutes before Olivias flight was due here. As i sat in the car waiting for Mom i got aggravated, she was taking way to long. I only got one week a year with Olivia and she was wasting our time by making sure she looked just right. I impatiently honked the horn to the car. Finally she came out, twenty minutes late, and we rode to the airport in silence. At the aairport we found Olivia sitting, alone, on a bench with her two suitcases beside her. Mom rushed up to her and hugged her, "Oh honey, I'm so sorry we're late but you know how it is,"
"Oh of course, thats alright, I wasn't here that long."
From behind my mom I rolled my eyes and mouthed "sorry" to Olivia. She laughed and we immidiatly started catching up on the whole year we had spent apart from each other. Of course mom tried to make conversation to but eventually she gave up and let us talk nonstop. As we pulled up to our house my cell phone rang. I flipped it open and ignored the look Mom gave me for talking while driving. It was Will, my boyfriend wanting to know if I could go out that night. After explainig about Olivia being down he understood and we hung up.
"Who was that?" mom asked.
"Will," I answered, preparing myself for the lecture that would follow.
"I told you I dont want you seeing that boy, his dads in prison for Pete's sakes. You have a reputation and it's different from his."
Of course, Mom was right, I did have a reputation, as a smart preppy girl with lots of friends and a great life. And Will's reputation was different, his dad in prison and him getting suspended once for punching Lance, the quarterback. But Will had changed and my dating him had cost me a lot of friends and ultimately my spot on the student couincil but it was worth it because Will was amazing. He really had changed and though we tried to get my mom to see that she refused.
"You're still dating Will?" Olivia asked from the backseat.
"Yeah, he's great," I replied shooting my mom a look, "I can't wait for you to meet him."
"No," my mom said slowly, "neither of you is ever seeing Will again."
