An angry storm raged around us as we started to drive up the long driveway.Rain pounded on the roof of our navy blue SUV, thankfully drowning out my eight year old sister Lizzy's Kidz Bop CD.I was sitting next to my fraternal twin, Cody, who was fat asleep. I was texting my best friend Aly about how miserable I was going to be shortly.
At least I have a phone now, I thought bitterly, as I looked down at my new purple Motorola KRZR. It had my name, ELLA, spelled out on the front in rhinestones. It was one of the bribes, as I thought of them, that my parents gave me when they announced that we were moving two months ago.
I still remember the shock on Cody and my faces. "Uh...yeah. Hahaha. Very funny." Cody had said after this announcement. "Sorry son, but this isn't a joke. And moving in my great Aunt Felicity's old house is a great oppurtunity!" he said, rubbing his receding black hairline, the same color black hair that Cody and I had inherited. He proceeded to go talking about how there was a great job for he and Mom there, how much money we would save, and how great the schools were. Cody, Lizzy, and I were still not impressed.
"Try to think of it was a new beginning!" my mother said, desperately trying to drum up some enthusiasm for her cause. The only excited one was Shayla, our border collie, and that was just because she knew that she was going on a walk after this. I could only stare dumbly. How could our parents do this to us? My mind raced as I thought of everything I would have to leave behind. My friends, my church, my school, my pool, my riding stables, and my house.
"Don't worry, we'll only be four hours away!" my dad had said brightly. "And we can bring Pirate and Fancy!" Well, I'm glad that we're taking the horses, I had thought. Pirate was my black quarterhorse/morgan gelding. We did western and english style riding at my old stable. Fancy was Lizzy's fat little pony of the americas mare.
Our parents had originally said that we were moving two weeks after school got out, but today was July ninth-school got out on the thirteenth of June. We had a slight delay because Cody, Lizzy, and I refused to go before the our town's annual Fourth of July parade. That night, Cody and I's friends had thrown a huge going away party. I, being the emotional person that i am, bawled the whole time.
Five days later, we departed from our house in Hadley, New York, to a small town called Birchwood, Massachutes. And now, as we approach the house, we're finally there.
