A Romantic Language

Poetry By: AmandaBrookeWrites
Young adult

I recently watched my school put on the Shakespeare play, "Much Ado about Nothing" and I loved it. I love Shakespeare (with the exception of Romeo and Juliet) and I love Shakespearean language. I think it's so beautiful and the basis of what I believe to be beautiful literature.

I decided to write a poem to express my love for this language among other things as well.

Oh how Shakespearean language rocks me so

Causing me to laugh; to cry; to feel

Why do we not, no more, talk as though?

Articulating words; a beautiful art forgotten

We've grown far too lazy and even a little spoiled

Like the juiciest fruit sitting under the sun

Is there any that understand the language?

Any that think they understand fluently!

Because Shakespeare is our biggest challenge

Such a romantic language I wish to speak

And for someone to speak to me

Long I've fantasized for some elegant chic

Has any dreamed of a man so perfect

And never had come across this language?

It's almost impossible not to affect

Thine has fallen in love, truly

With these words and their beauty
