Silent, Scared, Alone

A poem about a girl who is trying to run from her past...

I try to break free but I cannot find the exit.

I'm in so deep that no one can help me.

My past haunts me and keeps me from the present.

My future is blocked by an unseen force.

I try to shove past but it laughs in my face.

"You cannot pass me!" it taunts.

The voice is male, familiar and terrifying.

A large hand swoops down and slaps my face hard.

I almost fall but soft hands hold me up.

"You, Boy, get home!" the voice booms.

The hands that were tender and loving leave me in the hands of the harsh terrifying voice.

I am shivering even though it is a warm night.

I stay silent even though I need to scream and shout.

We get home and the hand hits me again, harder this time.

I tremble at the thought of living with the voice and its hands.

He leaves me in 'my' room by myself and I lie there, silent, scared, and alone.
