All Y'all Girls

Poem By: Kathryn
Young Adult

For all the girls that feel a little bit unattractive, a little bit too ordinary, or a little bit undone. Know that you are wonderful. View table of contents...

The girl that won't eat will get thin

And the cutter-girl thinks she will win.

You ladies who don't think you're pretty

Must also be blind by default.

As for me, I think I will pass

On this seductive addiction for beauty

Because of my realization of perfect flaws.

I cry for the women who call themselves fat

Because you girls are the gem in the crown.

Forget this damn conforming society

YOU should be your first priority

And stop taking into account those fakes on TV.

Don't strive to be a starving model.

Quit trying to make yourself over.

You girls need to see that how you are now

Is perfectly, perfectly wonderous.

I know what it's like to want to be gorgeous,

But you know what?

You already are.

Why don't you let that girl in the mirror be?

I never saw anything wrong with her.

Forgive me if I tell you the truth for once

And repel what dumb boys might have led you to believe.

I pray those cuts on your legs stop bleeding

And that razor stops pouring out your feelings.

Please, Annie, won't you eat something?

Your body is a temple.

Miss America is fine and dandy, but honey, she's not us.

We are real, we are lovely, and we are works of art.

Can't you tell us apart?

All y'all girls stop your longing from something other than

Your beautiful self.

This was wonderful and so true. I'll admit I've wanted to change my looks and I have. But I'm still me. I've wanted to get skinnier but now I dont care. I'm not the prettiest girl in the world. I know that but I'm not tryin to be anyone but me. Thanks for writing this. I'm sure it'll help people understand what we've already fiqured out. :) mandy

From a teenage boy:

I never understood this desire for all young girls to want to look like Madonna. I was never into Miss America, and speaking out of personal preferance- felt like someone needs to get these women some chiken or something 'fore they black out.

Anorexia is not attractive ladies- and women who are just skin 'n bones are not fun to hold.

Everyone has something beautiful about them just the way they are, and I hopefully I wont have to wait too long before individuality is valued above conformity.
