Learning to say sorry

Uh, This is kinda awkward to explain. It's kind of my way of saying I'm sorry to everyone I've ever hurt. View table of contents...

Its harder than you think,

One little word - sorry,

You grow up saying it

Yet never used it seriously

You say sorry for little things,

Like an accident or an insult

You - no I've never needed it,

Never needed to use it seriously

Till now

Its so hard to say it

I really mean it today,

But you don't believe me

You say I've said it too much

That it loses its meaning

That I shouldn't say what I don't mean,

But I mean it now,

And you won't listen to me.

Sorry means nothing

If no one hears it

I've spent my whole life

Learning to say I'm sorry

But now I'm ready

And you can't hear it

It's not like I wanted

To let you down,

I didn't want

To break your trust.

Its harder than you think

Saying sorry to someone

Who won't listen.

So I'll just say it now.

I'm sorry.

Thanks, I wrote it for my ex-boyfriend. He broke up with me after he found out that I had hurt myself and I hadn't really said sorry to him about that.

Hey, this is superb.....Indeed words have so much power....If used properly.....

I am straightaway submitting my " I like it" because this one comes from your heart with honesty

Thanks, this was directed to my boyfriend after he'd broken up with me for something I had done, but really had no control over. This was just my way of expressing what I was feeling at the time. I'm glad you liked it.

Very expressive. How sad that such a strong words nearly means nothing in these days. I used to tell a certain person that I was sorry for hurting them, and they would tell me that my actions speak louder than my words. "Show me don't just tell me"
Interesting.

Yeah, this was written as an apology to my boyfriend at the time. I went through a really depressing period of time and tried to relieve the stress through self-mutilation. He was not very forgiving and said some really mean things. Even now months later, I still feel like I need to apoligize for everything.

I doubt I'll actually show this to him, but at least its the thought that counts.

Thanks,
~Kaori

my dear kaori. u r a serious minded girl! i hope u never've to say sorry. (why should u ever). poem is good but shouldn't apply to u. ;-)

I had to say sorry several times in the past year, and trust me its not very fun. I went through a very depressing month or two and took to self-mutilation to relieve the emotions. Unfortunately that just caused me more grief than I was already in. It was a very situation I was in.

I hate to admit it, but the poem does apply to me, and in reality it applies to everyone. Once in their life, a person is going to make a mistake they are going to have to seriously apologize for. That's what life is for, making mistakes and correcting them.

Thanks for reading, I was afraid not very many people would enjoy it.

Aww thanks. I'm glad you liked it.

Saying sorry is easy but feeling sorry isn't. They do mean different thing but they both serve its purpose when used together. Perhaps, we just have to feel sorry first, then say it. ^^

Exactly! Maybe that's why people say sorry so friviously. They don't really feel sorry!! What wonderful insight. Thank you.
~Kaori

I try to mean things that I say, especially sorry. I just wish there were more ways of saying sorry that don't sound awkward in the English language. That way, there would be an apology appropriate for each occasion one encounters. I mean, the same thing you say when you step on someone's foot or arrive to a gathering about two minutes late shouldn't be the same thing you say when you've told a horrible lie that's betrayed everything you said you cared about. Maybe it's not overused. Maybe it's just that there's nothing else you can really say, and it has to be used over and over.

Exactly, but most people don't realize that when most people say sorry, they mean it. I don't know if they grew up in a house where they never say it, but some people feel that it is over used. I disagree with them and agree with you.
Thanks for commenting.

Wow, i know what you mean, sometimes saying sorry too much it does loose it's meaning, i hope everything works out for you in the end!

Yeah, we're friends again, but it's still awkward.
thanks for commenting.

I agree completely. Saying you're sorry for something serious is sometimes one of the hardest things to do. But we all have to learn to swallow our pride eventually. Great poem.
