On top of the roof.
The air is so cold and so calm.

Tom wondered how the hell anything could be calm when his baby brother Bill stood on the edge of the roof. Tom and two police officers stood tense only a few yards away from the younger twin.
I say your name in silence.
You don't wanna hear it right now.
"Bill." he whispered voice cracking with emotion. If Tom tried to talk any louder he was certain he would start sobbing. His brother ever so slightly shook his head no. Bill didn't want to listen to logic anymore. He was sick of everything
The eyes of the city.
Are counting the tears falling down.
The people below on the ground watched the tears fall like rain from the young man.
Each one a promise.
Of everything you never found.

Acceptance, happiness, love, a sense of belonging.
I scream into the night for you.
"Bill!" Tom screamed. He had screamed because Bill had taken a step closer to the edge. One more and he would plunge to the ground below. Tom couldn't just pull Bill off the edge. If he did, it would only strengthen Bill's resolve to die.
Don't make it true.
Don't jump.
The lights will not guide you through.
They're deceiving you.
"Whatever you heard about death being a good way to go is lies!" Tom said.
Don't jump.
Don't let memories go.
Of me and you.
The world is there out of view.
Please don't jump.

"Bill remember what happy memories me and you have?" he asked. And for the first time Bill spoke. His voice was soft and hoarse as if he'd been screaming.
"That's what they are...memories." he said softly tears running down his face from beneath his closed eyelids.
You open your eyes.
But you can't remember what for..
The snow falls quietly.
You just can't feel it no more.
Bill opened his eyes. But why? He didn't know or remember. A chilly breeze swept over the two young men. Only Tom felt it and when he looked up he saw it was snowing. He looked to his brother but Bill didn't give a reaction to the cold.
Somewhere out there.
You lost yourself in your pain.
You dream of the end.
To start all over again.
Bill had dreamed of his death. Planned it, dreamed it, obsessed over it, hoped for it, and now he was going to go through with it. He could start a new life when he was reincarnated. A better happier life.
I scream into the night for you.
Don't make it true.
Don't jump.
"Bill please don't!" Tom yelled taking four steps closer.
The lights will not guide you through.
They're deceiving you.
Don't jump.
The lights below looked so promising. At least he would die in the light Bill thought.
Don't let memories go.
Of me and you.
The world is there out of view.
Please don't jump.
Don't jump.

Please he couldn't end his life like this, Tom thought desperately. He would sacrifice anything for his baby brother to live.
I don't know how long.
I can hold you so strong.
I don't know how long.

Tom wasn't sure how much longer he would be able to stop Bill from jumping.
Just take my hand.
Give it a chance.
Don't jump.

Tom held out his hand to his younger brother. Bill looked at Tom the slightest flicker of life coming to his eyes.
I scream into the night for you.
Don't make it true.
Don't jump.
Those were the thoughts that ran through Tom's head.
The lights will not guide you through.
They're deceiving you.
Don't jump.

Bill glanced back at the lights. Did he really want to keep living?
Don't let memories go.
Of me and you.
The world is out there out of view.
Unbidden memories of Tom and Bill ran through Bill's mind. Them trick or treating. Tom costumed as a half naked chick. Bill dressed as Tom. Their dentist appointments when they were younger, where they were always scared shitless. The many hours of practicing in the garage for their gigs when Tokio Hotel was first starting out.
Please don't jump.
Don't jump.
Tom saw the doubt clouding over in Bill's eyes about the decision. He's going to go through with it, Tom realized panic filling him up inside.
And if all that can't hold you back....
He grabbed hold of his brother's hand and yanked Bill towards himself. Bill's momentum caused Tom to, in a somehow graceful manner, tumble off the roof. Bill shrieked and nearly threw himself over trying to catch hold of his brother's hand. The only thing that stopped him from following was the tight grip of the police officers.
"Nein!" Bill screamed and before Bill was out of hearing range Tom yelled to him:
I'll jump for you.
Tears trickled down Bill's face. He huddled up in a ball his arms around his legs. "Tom, Tom!" he sobbed. Nein it couldn't be true he couldn't be dead. Immediately paramedics rushed onto the rooftop. They grabbed his arms and hustled him down to ground level. "Wait I want to see Tom! My big brother!" Bill shouted struggling against them.
"It wouldn't be good for-." but he intterupted the woman by breaking free. Bill sprinted to where Tom had landed. When he saw his older brother he turned and threw up. The image of his brother's skull smashed in on one side, was too grisly for him at the moment. It was just too much for him to take in all at once. "I told you not to!" a woman snapped at him roughly pulling Bill to his feet after he finished vomiting.
"Be gentle brenda he just wanted to see his brother. It would be better if he saw his brother one last time." a young man said touching her shoulder.
"Yes is that so? With his head smashed in and dead?" Brenda said her voice dripping with sarcasm. The young man rolled his eyes.
"Let's just get him to a rehab center." he said. Bill sighed and let himself be lead away.
It was a year before the depression over Tom's death lightened even a little. His earlier depression was a hard battle that would stay with Bill for life. But year by year it eased up ever so lightly.
