CAJUN DELIGHT

I was totally exhausted from exams. The last thing I needed was a long trip to New Orleans. But Marci talked me into going with her this year. Marci assured me it would do me some good to get away for a change. I was reluctant, at first. But then I thought. Maybe this trip would cheer me up. Little did I know. The trip would end up being. The best time of my life....

The phone rang. It was Marci. " Hey Emma. Did you think about what I ask you? You are going arena`t you?" she asked excited. I guess. I told her. Did you make the reservations yet? I asked. Yep she laughed. Did that this morning. We`re set to go." I`ve been wanting to go to the Madi Gras Parade for some time now. But school was usually always in the way. I did`t really have a relationship, never had the time. I was majoring in Criminal justice, and it is pretty tough. So having a relationship was`nt`t part of my criteria. "Emma, we`re leaving on Friday, think you can be ready to go about 6:30. Sure I told her. I`ll be ready. OK! Marci laughed, See you then."

I got on my computer, and was browsing information on New Orleans. I wanted to take in some cites while I was there. I came across one site, about hurricane Katrina. I couldn`t believe the devastation Katrina caused. It was terrible. I fell asleep that night, and had the strangest dream. It was`nt`t like my other dreams. It seemed so real.

I dreamed I was married, and we had two children. A boy, and a girl. We lived in New Orleans, and we seemed very happy. In my dream, my husband was very good looking. He was tall, and dark. His eyes were so majestic, and that smile. I really liked that smile. The alarm clock woke me, just as he was about to kiss me. "Damn clock," I thought, as I threw it across the room. It was Thursday. One more day to pack, before we leave for New Orleans.

That night, I hoped to have that dream again. Back to that kiss my alarm clock so rudely interrupted. But it did`nt`t happen. I woke up to Marci leaning on her horn. "Come on Emma, she yelled. Lets get on the road." I threw my last bag into the car, and we were off.

"Marci laughed, your going to have a blast Emma, so relax. It`s a long drive." I reached over to turn on the radio. Maroon5 was singing their hit song, "I`m sorry I did not mean to hurt my little girl". I never could understand the meaning of the song, but the music was good. I slept most of the way there, still looking for that dream. Marci woke me, "Look Emma! See the tall buildings. We`re almost there." I wiped my eyes, and took in the tall landscapes. It was beautiful, I thought. We finally reached the hotel, and we were both exhausted from the drive. "Emma, Marci asked. We`ll order in tonight, and in the morning I`ll take you to a nice little coffee shop for breakfast. OK, I yawned." Then fell asleep. My dream finally came to me again, just like the dream before. There he was, looking better than the last time I saw him. I finally got that kiss, and it was unforgettable...

Morning came too soon. The room phone rang, waking me. Marci reached over to answered it."Wake up call! The male voice said. Thanks, Marci told him.Come on Emma, you shower first. Let me know when you`re finished," she yawned sleepily. I shook my head, and left her alone to catch a few more winks.

We were finally dressed, and out the door...

I had to admit, I was pretty hungry. We window-shopped on the way. Most of the shops were dainty, and small. Nothing like the stores back home. We finally reached the coffee shop, Marci was talking about. There were small dining tables outside. We decided to take one,so I could take in some of the city's views. It was awesome! The buildings were so high. Almost as if they reached the sky. Then, the waiter brought our order. It smelled wonderful. As I reached to take a napkin. The waiter reached at the same time. Our hands touched, and I giggled. " I`m sorry," I told him." looking up at him, my mouth dropped open. He was hot! Just like the man in my dream. I caught myself staring at him, and he was staring at me. Marci was smiling, as if to say,"Your blushing, Emma. You like him. huh."

"My name is Jake. I`ll be your waiter. Hi, I answered. My name is Emma, and this is my friend Marci. We`re here for the Mardi Gras Parade. Oh! " Jake smiled.Thats it! I thought, Thats the smile in my dream.I was astonished. Could this be the guy in my dream. No... It couldn`t be. It was a dream. Dreams don't really come true, I thought......

Jake ask us where we were from." Shreveport, I told him. Yeah, he laughed. I have friends there. They`re in the Bossier area. Wow ! thats hilarious, small world is`nt it. Hey! Me and some of my friends are going to be at the parade. What say you two join us. We could watch it together, Jake asked. Sounds great! Marci broke in. We`ll see you there. OK, Jake answered. I`ll take care of the tab, I`ll see you girls there. Bye I told him, and he was gone."

Marci looked at me puzzled. " What do you think you`re doing, Emma? she asked. What do you mean? Marci. You know very well, what I mean. You barely even know this guy, Marci frowned. He seems honest, I told her. Besides, we`re just watching the parade together. It`s not like I`m going to marry him, or something, I said sarcastically. If you mess with chili peppers They`re gonna burn.Ha Ha! " I laughed. Marci, and I went back to our room to rest up for the next day. It did`nt`t take us long to fall asleep. We were still pretty tired from the long trip. I dreamed about Jake that night. It was very much like the other dreams, except my husband was Jake. We were so happy, and so much in love...

I got up early the next morning. I wanted to find something special, to wear to the Mardi Gras parade.Or did I really want to look special for Jake, I thought. It was for Jake. Who was I trying to fool. I really liked this guy, and it was really unlike me to fall so easily. But I was lonely, and Jake was one hot chili pepper...

Soon it was time to leave. We met Jake, and a friend of his. Jake introduced us. Marci hit it off with Jakes friend Daniel. Marci, and Daniel decided to hit a few clubs. "I`ll see you back at the room Emma, she yelled. Don't stay up too late, she laughed." Jake asked me if he could show me around the city, I agreed. "Thanks," I told him. As we walked, Jake told me about his family. They have lived here all their lives. Jake told me about how he lost his aunt, to hurricane Katrina. The storm destroyed her home, and everything around it. " I`m so sorry Jake,I told him. I read about it on the internet, and on the news. I cant imagine." We talked for hours. I was really falling deep for this guy. Jake took my hand, and said, "Emma, its been a long time since I felt this way about anyone. Theres something about you. I cant explain it." He looked deep into my eyes. I could see he was sincere. Then he kissed me. Long, and passionate. I surrendered to his every need. We made love that night, and talked until the sun came up......

"Jake, I told him. Marci, and I have to leave today. I don't want to leave you, for fear I`ll never see you again." I started crying, and Jake held me for a long time. Jake whispered, " You can call me, and write me. I`ll call you, he told me. I`ll miss you Jake. I`ll miss you too, Emma." As Jake drove me back to my hotel, he told me what a wonderful time he had. The best time he`s had in a very long time.Jake kissed me, one last time. then he was gone...

I didn`t talk much on the way home. Marci was ranting about Jakes friend, Daniel.Marci looked over at me and said, " Cheer up Emma! We can go back next year.Yeah. I guess, I sighed. Oh Emma, your in love." Soon we were home... The next few days, were pretty hard. I missed Jake terribly. I did`nt`t leave the house, and I cant remember the last time I ate. Marci called a few times to check on me.

Someone knocked on the door...." Now who can that be," I thought. I opened the door. It was Jake. "Jake! I yelled. What are you doing here? Jake started laughing. Marci called me. She told me, about how depressed you were. You did`nt`t miss me did you, he smiled." I was so excited, I jumped into his arms. Jake got down on his knees, and ask.. " Emma, will you marry me?" I put my hands over my mouth, surprised. "Yes! Yes Jake. I will marry you," I blurted out! Marci was crying, with joy. Jake, and I have been married three years now. We have a wonderful little boy, and a little girl on the way. We are so happy. Who says dreams never come true.......
