The water lapped over my foot, icy cold it was. I thought about turning around and running back to my warm bed, in my cosy little house just over the hill. But I didn’t, something told me to go ahead and let the icy water take a hold of me. So I took another step, and another, and another, till the water had reached my chin.
I was numb all over; I couldn’t feel my toes or my knees or my hands. But I did not leave the water, I couldn’t.
I stayed there for an hour. I thought that by that time I would feel cold or at least a bit tired, but no, I wasn’t cold and I didn’t feel the need to go and rest. Then it became clear, the water would not harm me, for I am whole and a part of it. The fish of the seas do not feel the cold of the water because they are part of it, now I do not feel the cold because I too am part of it.
I looked to my left and saw a woman beside me. I was not surprised. She looked at me as if to say, come closer. So I did. She spoke to me in my head and said that I was not to be afraid and that I was to let my light shine to the heavens above.
She then told me her name was Arla, and that I could find her in my heart at all times. Then she scooped some of the water up and tipped it on my head.

Lara woke up wet and clammy. She rubbed her eyes and looked over to her window. It was wide open allowing all the air to get in. she over at the sea and saw a shadow. She rubbed her eyes and looked closer, but it had already gone. Outside she could just make out the outline of a far-away mountain form the moonlight. There was something about this night that seamed special, but not because of the dream. Lara had had this dream many times before, nearly every night for the past 6yrs. Each time she had this dream she was meant to write the date and any changes that came about the dream, but I must say that Lara was getting quite sick of this and was just about to throw the five notebooks full of dates, times, dreams into the bin beside her desk. Her counsellor had appointed this task to her last year as a record of the dream. Of course when her family found out about this non-stop dream they found a counsellor for Lara to see once a week. This is a story about a girl who living on one hope, one dream accomplishes more than anyone could expect.
