"Not today, not this time." The angry words of revenge coursed through his heart with as much hatred as blood had ever been.
"Bobby was my brother!" he screamed to the lonely darkness that encased him ever since the violence that had taken one of the only people he had ever loved.
"They will pay so dearly for this!" The cold carbon fiber felt so empowering in the boy's young hands. He was furious, hurting so bad that all he could show was anger. Anger was better than pain. He was terrified as he walked at a heart pumping pace, but that didn't matter, all that mattered was revenge as was there nothing more than the sound of his own screaming in his mind.
He walked down the stairs of his shambled Bronx apartment complex as if he were a soldier on route to a dangerous mission. He swung open the fire door with no intention or bother to close it.
As he walked, his brother's necklace was swinging on his neck in a rhythm of the suggested battle to come. The red sweatshirt his brother left behind was far too baggy and the sleeves were too long, but it seemed appropriate to wear. The boy knew exactly where to go, but had not yet realized he was going there. It just hurt so bad that he would never again see his brother for the rest of his life.
The Bronx was empty. Only the homeless and hookers were out tonight, both equally surprised to see him. Nothing but the glow of dim streetlight and garbage can fires lit the streets. At each new block a new smelly homeless man would call to ask for change, or one of the call girls would ask if he were ok. He ignored every bit of it.
Finally reaching his destination he could hear the music coming from the stereos in parked cars. He paused, the men were just around the corner "it's time to prove yourself" he said quietly to himself "come on, be a man!" A single tear slowly rolled down his cheek as he turned the corner. "Robert James Ward!" he screamed his brother's name as he opened fire. A woman was screaming in the background as fire was promptly returned. The boy fell to the ground as the screaming intensified
"He was only eleven!!!!!" the mother screamed.
