We were staring at each other. He had a sorrowful look on his face, and I imagined I had a shockful expression. I couldn’t believe it!!!. I mean, how could he? How could he just say, ‘oh, I can’t be with you anymore because my family has some disastrous problem with money,” so easily. How can he just ditch me, and throw away his feelings and pretend they don’t exist? Look at me, I’m bursting with love, I can’t keep it hidden, I can’t pretend that I don’t know him. And HE just keeps a calm face like my love life is not over.
“Anjgell…..I can’t…be with you. I have to think of my family before myself. It isn’t just because my family really needs money. My brother is an alcoholic and continues to have debts that are piling up by the second. My family is almost at their wit’s end, they have no choice but to come to me. And I have no choice except to take on the responsibility.”
Mark said softly, looking at me with those deep and beautiful gray eyes.
“But-” I forced out of my mouth.
“No buts, Anjgell. I made a promise. I made two promises. One is to make Zana happy, and one is to get rid of my brother’s debt. Not to mention the dismal state my father and mother’s business is in.” Mark cut off.
Shock had turned into outrage. Mark had given a new definition for being stupid.
“What about me? What about my happiness, your happiness, our happiness. And what does Zana have to do with any of this??” I cried out.
“I’m marrying her.” Mark said simply.
I was blown away, my whole world shattering. Marriage? Zana? Not the dream that I always had about Mark and I??
“Yes, marriage.” Mark said to me in the same soft voice like he had read my mind.
I hiccupped. Tears were beginning to swell upwards to my eyes, threatening to spill over.
I had never let anyone see me cry. My heart felt like it was ripped apart, like someone literally ripped it out of my chest. I couldn’t breath. I lifted my hand to my mouth and let the tears flow, I couldn’t stop them anymore.
‘Vampires don’t cry for nothing’  a voice drifted over me. ‘And when vamps start crying over something, they mean it with their whole hearts. And if they cry over a lover, they love them unconditionally with their heart, soul, and mind. That’s dangerous love, but some vamps think it’s worth it.’
I don’t know where that came from, but I whirled around and ran out of the park. I kept on running. Where to? I don’t know, as long as I keep running it was fine.
Stupid, stupid me. I should have avoided Mark the first time we met. Humans aren’t worth it, this love isn’t worth it. Humans only hurt us vamps. I started running faster. I pushed my emotions away and kept on running. Running, good. Thinking, bad.

Mark watched her run away. His fists were clenched inside his pockets. He loved her, he truly loved her. When she smiled, it was as if the sun came out, when she laughed, it was music to his ears. And now he’d hurt her, made her hate him for the rest of his life. He hated himself. He hated making her cry, and vamps don’t cry easily. ‘Vampires don’t cry for nothing’  a voice drifted over him. ‘And when vamps start crying over something, they mean it with their whole hearts. And if they cry over a lover, they love them unconditionally with their heart, soul, and mind. That’s dangerous love, but some vamps think it’s worth it.’
Mark didn’t know where he heard that, but he started weeping too. He had not only broken her heart, he broke his.
